Saving Luca

Rate this book
Marco D’Amico has it all—professional renown, financial security, and a queue of boys at the BDSM club who vie to be the next one to feel the bite of his bullwhip on their back and a permanent collar around their neck. But Marco shuns relationships and has done so successfully for forty-four years. Until he lays eyes on Luca…

Julian Maxim III is a sexy, silver fox, rich and single. Unlike Marco, Julian’s proclivity for sadism runs as deep as his desire to be in a D/s relationship with a boy who needs a caring Daddy. But at fifty-two, Julian loses hope of ever finding a submissive to call his own… until he lays eyes on Luca…

Luca Diaz is gorgeous, young, and a self-proclaimed failure. Desperate to punish himself for his mistakes, he takes a job as an escort for a sinister client—a sadist who promises to break Luca down until he’s raw and begging to be caged like a dog—and Luca believes he’s deserving of everything the sadist enforces.

Can two strong Doms find a middle ground—and possibly love—to save the boy they both adore before his self-destructive streak kills him?

Saving Luca is part one of an emotional and erotic MMM duology with an age gap, strong BDSM, and a promising Daddy/boy dynamic that ends with a cliffhanger! Please read the trigger warnings.

Holy sh!t was that good. I stumbled upon it when I was lost on what to read next and happened to notice it in my library's new additions. I didn't have much hope because when I usually randomly select a book blindly like that, it is mediocre at best. That was not the case with this book. It was an unexpected jem, or should I say Jewel. 😉 It did start out a bit slow, but when it picked up, it hit it out of the park. I had just skimmed the summary, so I didn't really know where the book would go, which to me made it even better. It was such a great mixture of dark and light. The characters were great, and the storyline sucked me in. I can’t wait to listen to the next one. I listened to the audiobook, and while John Solo isn't one of my favorite narrators, he did a great job. I am definitely going to check out more by this author.

I will preface this by saying: yes I understand this is part one in a duology. And yes the trigger warnings are listed.

This book just vacillated between me feeling angry and annoyed, to giving me the major ick. 😭

Potential spoilers in this review from here on!

First of all, there are two different blurbs (Goodreads and kindle blurbs were totally different) which had me CONFUSED! For those who want an actual breakdown of what this story is about, I’m going to write here:

Luca — the MC, has a struggling family and for some reason turns down an actual job that he would like and instead starts working as an escort to make money in his friend Gabe’s escort business.

Marco and Julian — two doms that have a connection / past that both take an interest in Luca, but have basically only ever had one interaction with him. Are both completely obsessed with Luca immediately and both want to be his dom. Luca turns down Julian’s proposition to start escorting in Gabe’s business.

Gabe - Luca’s college friend who owns an escorting business, yes clearly doesn’t do any sort of safety checks on clients. Some chapters are from his POV. He also has a thing for Luca which doesn’t seem to be reciprocated.

Cain — an abusive and manipulative “dom” who coerces Luca into doing a bunch of things he’s really not comfortable with for money, including spending a week with him in what feels like a D/s summer camp. Cain sucks a lot!!

This book was advertised as an MMM romance, but that’s not at ALL what you’re going to get in book one. This book is about a weak and inconsistent character (Luca) being coerced into horrible and non consensual scenes and scenarios. He’s with many partners in this book. Based on the blurb and the POVs being from Julian and Marco, I’m assuming end game is probably Luca/Marco/Julian, or possibly Gabe as well.. but you’re going to just get crumbs of that here. I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen.

Here’s the thing, I’m all for a good build up. I get it when bad things happen for the plot. But that didn’t feel like what I was reading here. There was 0 character development, a bunch of scenes that just felt disgusting, and the plot was so ridiculous.

This one wasn’t for me 😭 I feel gross after reading it … and I’ve read some HEAVY stuff.

It started off slow, humbling, like a nice BDSM scened book. But once it kicked off it was . . .

Welp. This one was dark, man. Frickin' dark. And depressing. If you want something to squeeze your chest in dread this is the book.
It's been some time since i read a book that ramped up the anxiety over the MCs health/wellbeing.

((I'm writing this review as I'm reading))

So let me get this straight, Luca. Instead of signing on with the respected dom, Julian. Getting someone who cares for you, will give you things, take care of you, and you'll want for nothing. And is trusted by your friends.
You ghost him for some random you've never met, for a small chance this random will continue to pay you ongoing and isn't some creepy unattractive dude. Then you meet him, agree to be with him, and he ends up not being a completely terrible person.
But.
Then you go off with another who you know is untrustworthy and dangerous, who you were told is not someone you should associate with, for money that the first dom, Julian, who actually respected you as a human and cares if you die was going to offer you. Someone who was going to ease you into the BDSM scene and find your limits in a safe environment. But nooooooo, you go with the one who straight up refused a safe word off the bat. And comes out and says he is going to hurt you to get back at someone else. Then straight up rapes you.
But you're still considering going back.
Motherf**ker. Why Luca?!?!?! Why!?!?. I've never wanted to reach into a book and slap someone so much in my life.
And also, not checking where the money you're giving your father is going?!?!? Ugh. Seriously. Check where the money is going!!! He's probably gambling it.
And yes, Luca, to answer your question. YES, it was a bad idea and NOT worth the thousand dollars, not even a little!!

And damn. I'm only on chapter 25. My anxiety cannot take this Luca, my god.

So help me, if you take that next deal and go away to an unknown location, by yourself, with that rapist, oh, i am going to reach into this book and strangle the stupid out of you.
And if that rich pimp friend of yours doesn't refuse to let you go and give you the money you would have made going. I'm going to reach in and strangle him too. Or those other two doms who say they care.
I don't care if they strap you to a bed to stop you going. Someone needs to step in before i have like an aneurysm burst.

Are we not supposed to be Saving Luca. Where is the saving at guys?!?!?

Imma need to step back and find a comfort read. Or I'm going to strangle Luca and then he won't have to worry about being killed at that unknown location, cause he'll already be dead. SMH.

This is the beginning of a dark romance. Be aware of a hard triggers : dub-con, abuse and rape.
This is my first Dark Romance and since it's in the BDSM life style, it was less uncomfortable (for me).
{The second book helped me understand this one better and I edited my review.}

This was one of my hardest read. It was gut wrenching and I couldn't stop even though I was nauseous reading some chapters, my heart squeezing so hard for Luca.

This book has 4 POV, Lucas and 3 Doms wanting to be with him. Unfortunately, they don't really understand him. Luca is more complex than he seems, being a very proud submissive but at the same time having a very low self-esteem not having been valued and praised enough.

Spoilers ahead. I can't review this book without but I'll try to stay surface level.

After his family bakery closed, Luca needs money badly but he is too proud to accept help from his friend or from the 2 Doms whom wants him. He doesn't want any handouts and he needs to earn his keep. After starting to work as an escort for his friend Gabe, he signs a contract with a sadist, Cain. Cain is, for the most part in this book, presented as the wrong example for BDSM. He seems manipulative and doesn't have good intentions except his own satisfaction but he understand Luca better than either Gabe, Julian or Marco. He really sees Luca's needs: pain, exhibition and relishing control.

This book relate the blooming relationship between a Master and his Slave. A lot of books I read before have mentions of abuse in the past but this one doesn't relates it : we live it with Luca and it is as traumatizing as it sound. We live through his physical pains and emotionals ones with him and we come out battered, bruised, broken, lost... but stronger for it. This could be akin to Stockholm syndrome if we forgot Luca's submissive nature from the beginning.

I just finished listening to the audio version of this book, and wow—what a ride! She was a new-to-me author, but with John Solo narrating, I knew I had to give it a shot. Let me tell you, there aren’t many books that keep me up into the wee hours of the morning, but this one absolutely did. It was so good and hit me right in the soul.

That said, this book comes with trigger warnings and isn’t for everyone, but if it’s in your wheelhouse, it’s a must-read (or listen!). And now, I’m desperately waiting for book #2 on audio—I even reached out to Annie Moon, and she said it should be out in just a few weeks. Hooray!

I don’t post book recommendations often, but this one? Phenomenal.

One blurb describes this as MMM - it is not. (Edit: book three is MMM)

Book two tries to paint the horrible abusive events in this book in another light, but it doesn’t add up to me. And it is not me being judgemental, I feel like quite a few references to this book is re-written in the second book, to explain them, but the descriptions in book two made me think “no, that’s not what happened“. IF it had happened as described in book two here in book one it would have been another story altogether, but as it is I would say this book is a description of MC Luca making quite a few disastrous decisions, and ending up being abused.

He is totally new to the BDSM community, and is getting coerced into signing a contract without any prior discussion of the terms. The “dom” decides on no safe words and that the only hard limit is no permanent physical damage, and no after care. The “dom”/abuser finds Lucas profile at some website and from there finds out his soft limits - and uses them all - without the option of safe wording. And this is their first interaction.

Luca displays a lot of post trauma/abuse symptoms afterwards, but that is conveniently forgotten in book two…
