Things don't always go to plan. Some might argue that the best things in life happen that way. While on vacation in Mexico, Cassandra and Cyrus unexpectedly cross paths. Neither of them could have anticipated the feelings that spark between them, both old and new. But when they're forced to face those feelings head on, Cyrus and Cassandra must make a decision. Will they take a chance?
ayo can we just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful the cover is ??
this was cute and sweet. some of the dialogue was a little bit cringe and the writing felt a bit choppy at times but it was a debut novella and i think there’s lots of potential there.
but ‘mighty mouse’ being her nickname?? oh hell no that aint doing it for me 💀
When a trip to Mexico reunites you with your high school crush you know it’s going to be a good time!
Cassandra and Cyrus were the cutest! They spent grade school and high school as friends but college brought about a 10 year separation. Both coincidentally in Mexico, him for his brothers wedding and her for some much needed R&R, they spend the next 4 days throwing caution to the wind and giving in to the desires of the heart!
This was a really good debut novella and I’d definitely read more from this author in the future!!
idk if it’s just me but a vacation novella gon get me every time. it’s just something about two people falling in love on vacation that pulls at my heart strings especially when it’s between two friends!
this book was short and sweet filled with so many cute moments between long lost friends. i enjoyed every moment of cass + cyrus reconnecting with one another.
Beautiful debut from Miyeko May! A surprise baecation with someone who’s not bae yet 😜 love to see it. This was a nice, quick, no drama read. My boy, Cyrus had it bad for Cassandra since forever, love to see him be bold & shoot his shot.
An adorable little romance novella set in a Mexican resort where two childhood acquaintances reunite after years of not seeing each other ✧˚ ༘ ⋆。♡˚
Take A Chance was SO MUCH FUN. I absolutely adored it!!! It's a short novella that leaves you wanting more and more. The characters, the writing, the plot, was so good and I flew through this story. It was such a good romance as well - so romantic and swoony. I was seriously giggling and screaming while reading this.
It's the perfect book for the summer. It's set at a Mexican resort, with the beach, the pool, the holiday season, all very present in the story. Cyrus is there for his brother's wedding while Cassandra is spending a holiday alone after her sister got the flu and couldn't accompany her. But she's alright, she's ready to spend it just relaxing the pool. Until, of course, she sees this handsome man at the bar and realizes that is Cyrus, the guy she knew in high school, who was known as the class clown, and was very much popular. What she doesn't know is that Cyrus has been crushing on her for so long, all through high school he liked her so BAAAAD.
So when they reunite, Cyrus is ready for anything. This is HIS chance to make her see how much he has liked her! And it's so cute, everything they do and every time they spend together - it's clear that they're doing it because they want to and that it feels so fresh and comfortable for them both. They get along SO WELLLLL and you can't help but smile whenever they're together.
I loved the epilogue, I felt it was the perfect type of scene to show and to let us know that they're going for the long haul!! I seriously adored Cassandra and Cyrus so much and want more of them sjksnjsdk sorry.
- This book was one of the cutest novella’s I’ve read in awhile! It’s only 60 pages so I wasn’t sure how an author would be able to put an entire story into so few pages, but the book didn’t even feel like a novella!! I felt like I got the full spectrum of the story and absolutely fell in LOVE with both characters!! - I was so surprised by the spice in this book, but it was so well done! I also love how we got so many little moments and conversations between Cass & Cyrus that their connection felt so real. Would love a book two because I can’t get enough of them!! - The writing in this book is so good. It really connects you to the setting which is perfect for summer. I love that the story is set on a beach. It gave the best summer vibes!
This was a really sweet novella 🥰. Definitely gave me all the feels! Second chance-ish and getaway romance! Would recommend and will read more from this author!
I loved both Cyrus and Cassandra, by themselves as well as together. Take A Chance had the right amount of plot and romance to get me fully invested in the story.
BUT I WISH IT WAS LONGER, SOOOO BAD. I felt like I just opened the book and then it was over.
On the other hand, I think this is a good length for a debut book. And for a debut book it was very well done. And the cover too, just look at it!!!
Congratulations to Miyeko for writing this and sharing it with the world, I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
I think there’s something in the Mexican water. First Rome, now Cyrus. Someone, take me to Mexico, please.
This little friends to lovers short was extremely cute. Cass was on a solo trip to Mexico, only to run into a friend, Cyrus, from high school from 10 years ago. They spent some time together, and feelings started to resurface. This is a perfect summer beach read. Most definitely looking forward to more work from this author. Get into this. It’s short and sweet
First off the cover is absolutely gorgeous. I love the vacation vibes in this book and the romance was very cute and straightforward. Also it’s a very quick but relaxing read.
This was a hot and cute novella about Cyrus and Cass. They knew each other in high school, but they haven't seen each other since. Both of them are on a trip to Mexico when they bump into each other and it's like time never passed. They decide to have some fun for the next few days on their vacation together 😉
If you want a hot little beach read, be sure to pick this one up!! I love how smitten Cyrus was with Cass!
TROPES: beach read, black love romance, KU, novella, summer read, vacation set
Sat down and read this in less than an hour. It was a cute little story and was refreshing. I would definitely use this as a palette cleanser or just something to try and get you out of a slump!
After a decade two high school acquaintances are randomly reunited on a trip to Mexico. It definitely feels like fate...Cassandra was the one that got away for Cyrus. Seeing her after all those years felt like nothing but space and opportunity to finally get his girl. He was intentional with his interest and helped her loosen up and take a chance on them. Something about the mmc knowing what he wants and ensuring the fmc feels safe will always sit right with me.
Cassandra and Cyrus were too cute and I enjoyed this sweet quick read.
I am so incredibly proud of Miyeko. This is a wonderful debut!
Cass and Cyrus' chemistry is immediate and I love that they knew each other back in high school days but fate brought them back together in a completely different country.
This story is cute and spicy. It's well paced. It had me smiling so hard the entire time, especially the end.
Take A Chance was just to cute , very short and to the point but still able to give us some S P I C E 🩷 . The cover is gorgeous and depicts Cassandra & Cyrus well . My only complaint is I don't think I would ever be ok with a dude calling me "Mighty mouse as a nickname 😂 .
I was surprised to really like this storyline, especially with the length being only 65 pages. But anyway, I don't have a single complaint: no drama, no fighting, backbiting, or shady acts. So, I am good.
3.5 stars - fun vacation novella where two friends from high school find themselves at the same resort.
i loved that he had been pining for her for so long and that there wasn’t a ton of unnecessary drama but i think this could’ve benefitted from being maybe 20-30 pages longer because not much happened.
cassandra and cyrus learned literally nothing about each other during their time together. i have no idea how we got to the point of them sleeping together and what took place in the epilogue. we didn’t even know cassandra had interest in him until another character hinted at it. she only talked about how annoying he was in school. i know it’s a novella but i it was missing a lot for me.
Congratulations Miyeko on your debut! What a sweet, quick read with all the feels! Cassandra and Cyrus grew up together but weren't in the same circles. Running into each other in Mexico was purely coincidental, but a lil fate may have intervened. Their playful banter was immediate, and the chemistry was sizzling. Enjoyed it. Looking forward to more of your work. 👍👍👍
First book in 2025 for the book club. Very straightforward story. Cute and no conflict. I had a hard time imagining the characters looked like cause they weren't described very much. I also overall found the story boring but that's a me problem. I generally gravitate towards medium-fast paced stories. Read past the end because there is a really nice author's note.
