I liked the way the book opened and was quickly intrigued on where the story would go, but then it seemed to change direction and dragged, taking forever to explain anything that was happening. The dream portions were a bit strange, and I didn't always follow how the characters formed the conclusions they did. I was intrigued by the lawyer turned pastor and the church politics when he agreed to represent someone pro bono. I felt like the church stuff was depicted accurately, showing sadly how badly humans can treat one another. There are two legal cases happening, and while one takes forever to play out, the second one was rushed, and I didn't fully understand how the corruption was taking place. I did really enjoy the way Peg supported Mike in everything and the friendship formed between them and Sam & Murial. I also liked the direction that Mike's life was heading at the end of the book. Overall, I feel like the book was too long and dragged out.

A lawyer battles with his faith. Years after giving up law to become a minister, he’s drawn back into court to defend a man who says his visions and messages come from God.
Is the defendant living by faith or delusion? How does a person know God’s will in daily life?

Mike is content with his life as a church pastor, even though he gave up being a well-respected attorney to answer God's call. But a request from a lawn care worker named Sam Miller draws him back into the legal world. He is reluctant at first, but Sam's otherworldly knowledge of events intrigues Mike and he agrees to take his case. As Mike works to prove that Sam didn't embezzle money from a church where he was pastoring, he uncovers facts that point to a larger conspiracy--but will he be able to prove his suspicions to be true, or the conspirators force him to give up?[return]Despite all the supernatural stuff in this book with Sam's unusual dreams and visions, Whitlow makes it seem remarkably realistic. The characters have a truth and are appealing so that you really do care about what happens to Sam and Mike and his wife. And it also makes you think about how we listen to God and how he speaks to us today. Fans of legal thrillers and books with a supernatural twist will enjoy this one.

READS library book for Kindle. Lawyer turned preacher encounters God in a new way through the prophetic dreams of a simple lawn care man who needs some legal help. I liked this book as it was helpful in inspiring me in my own relationship with God; the variety of ways that he shows his love to me and through me. Easy reading with good characters. The main character loves mountain biking in the North Carolina mountains, which I related to with my love of biking the mountains of Tennessee. Thus this book was inspirational spiritually and physically! Can't wait to get out that 29er and hit the trails this spring thinking of "Papa" and his love for me.

This is my first book by this author and I found it to be such an amazing read. This story was recommended to me and the book was purchased for me by a friend of mine who is actually a preacher.
It’s a gentle reminder that we have to hold onto our faith and trust Him to do what’s right. Not in our time, but His. He will show us the way, we just need to be silent and listen.

Truly, this was one of those books that I hated to read the last page, but it was good to reach the last page - as the author did a masterful job of wrapping up the lose ends, and giving us a glance of life, afterwards, too. This comes highly recommended!

150 pages before I decided I'm done. This particular story I found to be rather bland, and only one of the characters to be likeable, the one everybody else labeled "odd" and later a "criminal." Perhaps my opinions of the other characters would change by the end, perhaps not. I'm just not invested enough in the book to resist picking up something different.

In regards to the Christian fiction aspect, I feel like some of what should be the important parts of the book are skimmed over. The main character is "called" from his job as a lawyer to become a minister, but it never really explains how. Sure, some Christians might understand what this means, but I feel like it could use a bit more explanation. Overall, the book didn't feel very accessible to me, but I could be wrong because I didn't finish it.

My first Whitlow book was Everlasting Life , which I devoured. I quickly went to the library and borrowed other books by the same author. Unfortunately, this novel wasn't as good. I had a really hard time relating to any of the characters. I don't have the same relationship with Papa that Sam and Mike have. I'm not an older woman who has learned spirituality through her husband's dreams and close walk with Papa. Nor am I a middle aged woman who has struggled with infertility. I am not a lawyer or a minister. So the novel wasn't relatable for me. I know that I don't have to be the same as the characters in order to understand them, but I just couldn't relate. So the story dragged. Hopefully the next novel is a better reading experience for me.

Didn't see that coming

Mountaintop tells the story of a man called to preach at a small church that grew each week as people came to hear him preach. He encounters a man who tells him imp I rant things, including that his wife of 15 years is pregnant with a long awaited son. The man gets crossways with the law and powerful people, and the preacher must turn from preaching to lawyering. This leads to a surprising move for the preacher. An excellent book by Robert Whitlow.

Insight into another rich world...

Whitlock has provoked perusal toward a more austere lifestyle that in this 'self-serving' time one would do well to consider. The behaviors we find rampant in our nation now are considered natural but they really are abhorrent, confusing, self-consuming(like fire)and leading us as a people and culture to total annihilation...

After a briefly slow start, this was very interesting and thought provoking especially in a spiritual way. A couple of unexpected twists at the end kept me turning the pages to see how all was resolved. This is older - my interest came now because I found the movie on a streaming service. Wanted to read the book first. Maybe I will update this when I find and watch the movie.

Whitlow has crafted an exquisite masterpiece! I was immediately immersed into the drama. Twists and turns kept me turning the pages. Deep spiritual truths are woven throughout the pages. These characters will linger long after turning the final page.

Recommend to readers who enjoy legal drama.

I borrowed a copy from the library. I have expressed my honest view.

This is a quick read about an attorney turned pastor and his unlikely client - an old man in jail who has visions. It has good religious themes about how we believe, who inspires us, and where we have our mountain top experiences.

The book was intriguing....as you're reading the book you can see and read what happens when you let God into your life or you open the door to God. The ending was a little disappointing but I think that's because it was opening the door for future books.

Whitlow, as an attorney himself, is a master at weaving the plot and slowly unraveling the legal and personal intrigue! I will continue to read his books which are not only attention holders, but also full of powerful spiritual lessons and profound statements of faith!!

This version was the abridged book on audio, read by Reg Platt who was fantastic. The story is a little mystery solved by visions and dreams which reminds one of spiritual truths. Charming story.

Ag nee! Voordat enige aksie kan plaasvind, gee die skrywer die aksie weg as 'n paar onbenullige sinne! Die res van die verhaal word uitgerek tot in lengte van dae.

I've given it 3.5 stars. A book about a man who dreams and can interpret them and gets in trouble for one of his dreams. I would have liked it more if I had't watched the movie first.
