Any and all proceeds from this book are used to support the work of Christian Health Service Corps missionaries serving in hospitals and health programs around the world.
Reading Seager's book was convicting and encouraging. He addresses a need, but provides a solution to stated problems. He provides a great format for looking at global health initiatives to determine if they are meeting best practices. The book is filled with great resources to develop and evaluate effective global health initiatives that will foster development and independence instead of dependency. As stated in the book, more study and work will be needed to do just that, but it is a great introduction to issues in global health initiatives.
If you are considering medical missions short or long term, this is a thoughtful and insightful read. Might take a little time to get into the headspace for the book but it really helped me with my questions about the effectiveness of short term missions. Good read for those interested in Christian missions of other forms too.
Mr. Seager brings up systemic issues in medical missions I had never considered, then explains strategies to resolve/think about those issues in order to inspire better, safer projects.
