Written by two sisters who formed their own monthly reading and lunch groups that continue to meet,"Recipe for a Book Club" starts in January and ends in December, with a reading theme for each month and a menu and recipes to go with it, a featured favorite book and author, suggested reading list, and interesting questions to ponder and discuss. From January’s theme of New Authors to December’s theme of Inspiration for the new year, this attractively illustrated guide is ideal for all reading groups, whether brand-new or long-established.

Last night I helf my first book club, it included family mostly(yes Abby your family is my family). We did the October project of reading Rebecca and I made the accompanying menu. We started with a butternut squash soup, it was alright, I have made better versions. Then we had Salad with shrimp and little chicken packets. The chicken packets were delicious and I may make them again as a fall back recipe. You fill ravioli size packets of refrig crescent dough with cooked chicken, cream cheese and finely diced onion, baste with butter and bake for 11-13 minutes. Yummy. For desert we had a Pumpkin roll with cream cheese cinnamon frosting inside. I was so proud of myself putting it together without it falling apart.
An Unsuitable Job for a woman will be our next book in December. I didn't like any of the book selections for December so we took this one from the list of books for October but I will make the December menu. FUN!

Fun book filled with books to read and food to cook. The authors prepared a book and food for each month for a group. Plenty of tips to having a successful book club. Each month had a book for discussion and questions to think about but they also gave other book suggestions too. Food recipes included finger sandwiches one month and soups another. A slim volume but filled with ideas on a monthly basis.

This guide to hosting your own reading group is done on a monthly plan. They give you a theme for the month, the title of a book they read, a synopsis of the book, a brief bio of the author some similar suggested readings and a suggested menu.

I don't know what I was expecting from this book, but I did not feel it delivered. It is perfectly fine as is, it just left me still wanting something else.

Most of their selected reading was pretty old standards, Jane Austen - really? Does a book group need this book to enlighten it to this obscure title? Come on! There were a couple of tasty sounding recipies that did redeem this otherwise useless junk.

Hats off to the authors. They wove menus, authors, readings and recipes beautifully. But, in the end, it feels like too much work. I want to play with my book people.
