At last, a social research methods text for students and future researchers who will need to use both words and numbers in their research. Using actual examples from psychology, sociology, anthropology, health, and education, the book provides readers with both a conceptual understanding of each technique as well as showing them how to use the technique. H. Russell Bernard, author of the best-selling textbook Research Methods in Anthropology and a world figure in the social sciences, brings to the researcher and the student the excitement of the research act as never before.
I am reading this book for my public health degree, and while it is a textbook, and it is teaching me about social sciences, it is a great read! I have not enjoyed a textbook in the realm of the social sciences before, as I am now. And I realized that I read books to study and reflect on other humans behaviors through stories that are written in books, and I choose what interests me. But at the root of it all is the study and the documentation of human behavior. This is a very good book because of the voice of the author. And within its lessons is real life stories that give examples of what he is teaching. The stories and examples are so much richer because of the need to learn a concept, but also the concepts are easier to learn in the form of stories.
a highly regarded text that presents a comprehensive and balanced introduction to both qualitative and quantitative approaches to social research with an emphasis on the benefits of combining various approaches.
