What a fortunate find and a freebie, too! Call me crazy but the cover first drew my attention and, after reading the descriptive blurb, I one-clicked.

This is the story of an NFL football player who, before he became rich and famous, sold his sperm for much needed money. Later, of course, he changes his mind but a mix up occurred with his paperwork resulting in a pregnancy. Somewhere out there Sperm Recipient 3516A is pregnant with Derrick Baylor’s baby and he’s determined to find said recipient and become an active participant in his child’s life. From there, the story blossoms into a full-blown emotional whirlwind filled with discovery, fun, laughter, tears, family ties-that-bind as well as the family feuds, adorable characters (both young and old), and love, love, love!

There's also a super bonus where the author wraps up Derrick and Jill’s story with a perfect Happily-Ever-After in a delightfully satisfying epilogue. I’ll definitely be checking out more books by Theresa Ragan because I do love a fun-filled Friday morning with a good book.

This is a fun fast read with two great MC's who will have you shaking your head at their stubborn self-defeating silliness, even as you are reveling in their irresistible attraction. I am super appreciative that Theresa Ragan made this available for free last Friday, thank you! I'm honestly feeling kind of guilty about taking advantage of that, that's how good this is!

MC Jill is pregnant (see cover for clue alert) as our story opens. Her ex-boyfriend, Thomas the Weasel, left her standing at the altar, humiliated and angry. Her belittling, emotionally unavailable snooty-snob family sure didn't help her get over that (why the hell are they taking his side?), so she's come to LA, as far away from them all as she can get, to start over. She hasn't given up her life long dream of being a mom, though, and with the help of some frozen sperm from dear old CryoCorp, she's found the perfect solution to achieve it, while still preserving her hard won independence.

Derrick Baylor is a super romance-novel dream guy. The 30 yo qb of the California Condors is dreamy handsome, smart, hardworking, has a great sense of humor and is from a huge, loving and down to earth family. The extensive and characterific Baylor clan is realistically and often hilariously portrayed - they are not without their problems, but a shortage of mutual affection and support isn't one of them. Too bad Derrick's still gaga after all these years over his childhood crush, now his brother's fiance. That one is definitely throwing a monkey wrench into his, hers and the whole family's emotional gears (hey there's gotta be some reason he's still single, right?). He's pretty shocked when he gets a letter from CryoCorp letting him know that his sperm's finally been donated and that its "recipient" is now carrying his child. He'd long since believed that his youthful "donation," made way back when he was financially struggling (oh yeah, did I forget to mention that he's rich now?), had been withdrawn from circulation per his request. Derrick, endearingly if not perhaps terribly realistically for most sports figures we see nowadays who seem to flee paternity like a plague, isn't the kind of guy to let a child of his loins float around unsupported (sorry for the weird imagery there), and he sets out to find aforesaid recipient with the intent of being a part of his child-to-be's life.

So that is where our players stand as the curtain rises. The scene where Derrick stalks Jill down and makes himself and his intentions known is absolutely the cutest meet-cute you'll ever want to read. Theresa very cleverly puts an excerpt from this as the intro to her synopsis, and it's really what pulled me into reading this. Excellent choice, I must say, it's funny, slightly bittersweet, and fraught with all the tension, humor and poignancy this novel delivers (pun slightly intended). Of course there are misunderstandings, miscontrued or inadvertantly overheard conversations that are taken the wrong way. Of course there are stupendously misguided attempts at achieving one's goals in precisely the most wrong-headed way possible. Of course those schemes backfire and yet somehow succeed at the same time. And of course, above all, there is really enormous fun, and some sweetly tender emotional closure as the action twists, turns and ultimately draws to an end. Really this book has so many great elements: snappy and clever dialogue, extremely charming main characters (especially Jill, so real feeling with her doubts and hopes and resolve), side characters who not only move the plot along, but contribute their own flavor and richness to the mix, and a plot that keeps on delivering the story, the suspense and ultimately, the sweet resolution we (and Derrick and Jill) so richly deserve. I don't read that many romances, so maybe I could be more familiar with its conventions, tropes and standards, but to me this felt like a fresh, frothy confection with lots of sugar, some undertones of spice and enough emotional substance to make it a satisfyingly rich and rewarding read. Bravo to Theresa Ragan for sharing these fun characters and their story! Now, please go buy it so I don't feel so doggone guilty for taking advantage of her authorial generosity!

I can't believe I managed to finish this. It was so bad and horribly annoying. Jill was a TSTL sort of woman and I have no real clue why Derrick liked her at all other than "she's my baby momma".
She was so distrustful and that's understandable under the circumstances but in this case she was distrustful and worried about his mean intentions so it was always her that did the mean things. She left the hospital with the baby when she promised to wait there for Derick. She freaks out about everything and she is an ungrateful bitch alot of the time.

No matter what kind things he did she was always thinking the same thing.
He wants to meet his son--- omg, he's going to steal my baby
He helps her with her magazine--- omg, he's going to steal my baby
He wants his family to meet his son--- omg, he's going to steal my baby
His family is so nice and kind--- omg, he's going to steal my baby

I saw her like a child, stomping and shouting "MINE!"

And Derrick. What a retard. The whole mess with his brother and his wife? He had his head so far up his own ass he couldn't tell what was up and what was down. It was so far up he couldn't realize his "TRUE" feelings until his sister-in-law gave him what he "thought" he wanted, namely herself.

They were both massive idiots and they deserve each other. Ugh.

Fabulous freebie! I picked this up on a whim. I have other books from this author that have gotten some good ratings...all free at one time too...so I checked it out. I intend on reading all of them...after reading this little gem today.

When I read the blurb for the story, I thought this sounds ridiculous, so I clicked on "read the sample", because I'm so overwhelmed with books, I didn't want to add another one, just for the sake of getting it for free. I sampled, and needed more right away. I bought it...zero dollars...and then read until I was done. Very enjoyable and it left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. Sometimes you can't judge a book by it's description and you need to open yourself up to the ridiculous, or you might miss out on something good and this was good.

Derrick Baylor was sweet, charming, scrumptious and I want to have his baby! Jill Garrison was the recipient of his sperm, he wasn't present...damn, had his baby, and the two of them got mixed up in one crazy wacky love story. There are so many mentionable secondary characters, from Jill's assistant Sandy and her adorable daughter Lexie, to the delightful loving Baylor brood. They all added to this already heartwarming love story, albeit somewhat of a fantasy, but I like to dream, so it worked for me. There are also 2 other romances added to the mix, one which puts Derrick at odds with one of his brothers, and it also added some tension to the story.

The story is light on steam, but big on emotion, and the author gives the gift of a satisfying epilogue...delicious!! I hope that since the Baylor brood has more men that need women, and a few women that need men, that we will see this as a continuing series. I would love to hang out with these people again.

I could barely get through this and had to skim a lot. Yeah, like I skimmed almost the whole book. For me it felt ridiculous and contrived. I couldn't deal with any of the scenes with the little girl, Lexi. Way over the top trying to get the "isn't that cute", but failed for me.

I use to read romance novels but I'm finding that I just can't read this type anymore. It's was a 1 star for me but I was going to give it an additional star because I think other readers may be more appreciative of the story than I was, but then I remembered how annoying I found all the characters and had to stay with the one star.

I like the story. I'm just not sure if I can say the same for both of the main characters.

Don't get me wrong, I was really set to finishing this book because the premise of sperm-donation is quite new to me. I mean, I have read something like this once or twice from Harlequin, but never in this length. It's too bad that i found the characters quite annoying and stubborn.

Derrick is a football player who was once upon a time paid to have his sperm donated. Jill is a recently-heartbroken woman who was left at the altar, all she ever wanted in life is to have her own baby. For the first chapters (too many chapters, if I may say so) Derrick believes that he's in love with his brother's (they both adamantly insists that this brother is "ADOPTED") fiance', Maggie. When he felt that he was falling in love with Jill, he was struggling with the idea that he may love two women at the same time. I wanted to bash him in the head! I wanted him to get outta the book so that I can shake him! They were getting along so well ever since the baby was born, and then he ruins it all by being overly confused. Jill on the other hand, is very stubborn. She's so determined to have the baby all to her self that she sometimes forget that the baby also needs family (aside from her). Anyway, she came through in the end.. she was somehow enlightened.. but it was what? 10 pages near the end?

Hmm.. maybe that's my problem with this novel. The realizations came too close to the end.

I had fun reading this because at some point, these two were really sweet. The people around them were also very colorful. They made the story enjoyable.

I'm glad i gave this a shot. Thanks to amazon for making this free yesterday.

description

description

So I know it might be a little harsh but I think that the only thing I like about this book is that it's short so I didn't waste too much time reading it. I always, I mean ALWAYS finish a books when I start it, even if I hate it..But "Having my baby" was really hard to finish.
I think this book has too many characters and too many plots and issues started and not finished.. Ok so for starters: the characters.. The hero has nine siblings..yes nine! And they make completely random appearances during the story without any real reason..
Now we can talk of the sub-plots..for example why o why insert the story of Aaron and Maggie? It was useless and there is only the beginning of the story!! In fact we find out in the epilogue that they finally get married and they are happy but the question is: How? Come on! In one page he left her and in the next they are married?
And speaking of issues not well developed..the hero loves football..he didn't start a family because he is married to his job, but then they tell him that he can't play football anymore and he isn't even a little bit sad?? What??
So these are only some problems that I have with this book..too many people and plots for a short book and that in my opinion didn't leave enough space to really develop anything.. I'm sorry for this rumbling..maybe it's just not my cup of tea..

When the heroine was left at the alter by a man she thought she loved, she didn't cry, she didn't freak out. She moved and went to a cryogenic bank to get pregnant because all she's wanted in her life is a baby of her very own.

When the hero got the notice his sperm was being used for a client, he freaked out. Eighteen months ago he sent the bank notice that he wanted his sample destroyed. Now he needs to find the woman who may be the mother of his child.

Upon the hero and heroine meeting, everything fell apart and the heroine went into labor. When the heroine gave birth to a beautiful son, the hero decided he wanted to be a Daddy to her Mommy. Thus the drama begins...

I thought it was pretty darn good. There was some times were I was annoyed by the hero and heroine though. Let me tell you if that happened to me, I'd have nothing to do with the hero, that'd be my baby and I would fight for it with everything I had. In a lot of ways the heroine was a weak woman but in other ways, she was strong to put her pride away and give the hero a chance at being a father.

Cute story. I liked the hero, Derrick, better than the heroine, Jill, but that may have been because the heroine was not as well developed. The hero's large family was one of the strengths of the book. There were some very predictable elements in the book. How do you prove someone is kind and a worthwhile human being? Have them rescue a dog of course and the nastier looking and more ill behaved the better. So overdone in romances. I did like how the hero had other stuff going on in his life and needed to work out that he wasn't in fact in love with Maggie. That was an interesting twist to a romance novel. I liked how the baby, Ryan, was portrayed. He was an actual character in the book instead of a cipher as babies can sometimes be in these sorts of stories. All in all a nice romance.

Although I liked the main story line, there were too many side characters. 2 friends, 4 parents, about 10 siblings plus their significant others, an ex, the dog, the doctor, and two kids. There were 2 secondary love stories that weren't that interesting. It was all too much. I put the book down for a day or two and couldn't remember who Zoey and Conner and Hank were when I came back. I understand she wanted to show rich lives for the characters but it was just crazy. It really detracted from the main story and made the story drag.

Other issues, the main character is dating and having sex 3 weeks after giving birth. Ummm no. That's too soon for that.
And also it took Derrick far too long to realize that he didn't love Maggie, in spite of the fact he obviously hasn't been around her much in the last several years

Now THIS is how you write a baby-by-mistake chick lit! Reading them (the other being Baby, Oh Baby! ) back to back I can definitely say I liked this one more and I think it's because this one felt a little more real, rather than a forced chaos-infused situation. The heroine was more down-to-earth and had a smart head on her shoulder (even when she's hormonal lol), and she had me on her side all the way. The hero wasn't as arrogant or selfish as other sports-themed heroes would be in this situation, he was a little clueless at times though and usually that had me laughing at him, poor guy.

This was quality chick-lit though so I will definitely be on the look out for more from this author. Now on to the next baby-by-mistake themed book...

★★★½✩ (This is a review of the audiobook.) Unoffensive narration. Sarah Drew's reading didn't bother me, but I thought she made the hero's friends sound like they were in high-school; or maybe that was just the dialogue. LOL!

I'm not really too keen on story lines where the hero and heroine are in love with other people. **shrugs** Torn on the rating between 3 and 3½ stars. This book certainly grew on me, though, and the author gets points for being able to pull off this theme, so I went up. I appreciate that the hero was honest with the heroine about his conflicting emotions. Still, he reeked a lot of havoc in his family. Good Gravy Beans!

A mi me encanto!!!

I enjoyed this story. It mirrored some of the other books with this same plot, but the author put a lot of detail into the story. I could feel the emotions that Derrick and Jill were feeling. The two strangers met because Derrick found out Jill was having his baby. Many years ago Derrick needed money and donated his sperm. He thought about it, and gave back the money, and told the sperm bank to get rid of his deposit. Years later he receives a letter thanking him, basically saying that he had helped create a life. He hired a private investigator to find Jill. The day the two met, her water broke, and she went into labor. I liked the fact that the writer allowed time throughout the story for the two to build a friendship, and trust. It was not instant chemistry. The two wanted the best for the baby, but didn't know if they could trust each other. This story was more down to earth, real life emotions, than some of the other stories I have read with the same plot. I fell in love with the little girl lexis. She was just so darn cute, and told things like they were. Kids are very honest. Good book. A little slow in places, but worth the read.

I'm sorry but I just could not finish this book.

I really liked the idea and was excited to start reading but once I did ... boy did it suck.

The main characters ruined this book for me. Jill was basically the whole time I managed to read a bitch. Derrick I liked. A little. But sadly it was not enough. :/

Cute enough for a light read, but plot/characters were too unbelievable for me to fully enjoy it. Was I the only one that was bugged that this woman was wearing thong panties 2 weeks after having a baby and "getting it on" with the guy 3 weeks postpartum? Anyone who has every given birth would have a difficult time swallowing either of those scenarios. I did enjoy Derrick's big family...it's the kind of family anyone would want to marry into!

Having My Baby was such a fun and easy read. I find that sometimes I am in the mood for a book where I can put the cruise control on and settle in to enjoy the ride. This for me was one of those books. It kept my attention, was sweet and funny. I thoroughly enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun and romantic read.
