Mira De Land inherits her childhood home -- a house named Lila in Ona Island, North Carolina. The catch is that she must move it to her family's current home in Arkansas. Moving Lila forces Mira and her much younger sister, Kat, to unearth long-buried family secrets as their own relationship changes. Ultimately, they reconcile the family's past and present by realizing that each one is guilty of something, which has the paradoxical effect of absolving them all.
The tenderness and humor in this story really resonated. An easy read with tension that bubbled up and popped steadily. No raging pots about to boil over. The mood is familiar southern, the world a trip back in time just far enough to reach and remember, to be a teensy bit nostalgic for. Think yellow pages, knowing your neighbors for a lifetime, and conditions of the heart that had to be shared steadily by one actual in-person conversation at a time…
Very light easy read. I enjoyed reading this book written about a family brought together after their inheritance of Lila, the house. A cute story with deeper storylines of family relationships & secrets.
