Absolutely Amazing!

Samaire has done it again. Sanctuary is a fast paced non-stop adventure. I couldn't stop until the final page was turned. I loved the characters in the first book, in the second she pulls you in even deeper and you wind up caring for them even more. This isn't a feel good fairy tale fantasy. It is a dark often gritty urban fantasy in a nearly post apocalyptic world. Our rag tag family has grown, matured and is closer than ever. The author writes in such a way that you feel as if they are your own family.

Normally, I detest YA fiction with only a few exceptions. This is one of those very rare exceptions. I'll warn you. This is a very disturbing and unsettling story. This book comes straight from nightmares and isn't for the faint of heart, something I am not. I grew up on Horror and still love it. I'm not easily frightened or disturbed, horror is one of my greatest loves. I will probably have a few uneasy dreams after reading this ... just like I did after reading the last one. I can't want for the third book to come out.

Keep them coming Samaire!

Recently I reviewed a book by a brand new author, Samaire Provost, Titled "Epidemic", I was impressed by this first effort of Ms Provost to say the least. It is her latest work, "Sanctuary" That caught me completely off guard! I read this book overnight, I NEVER stay up until 3 AM reading, I generally fall asleep or just get tire and put this book down. This time however, I did. I read most of the night and picked it up to finish early this AM. As I drank my morning coffee I completed this book! A fantastic addition to the Epidemic Tale, Sanctuary picks up some 5 years after the initial Epidemic and spans some 15 years more, allowing you to see how these wonderful characters have evolved and grown!
The writing style of Samaire Provost seems to be evolving as her books do, and I for one am definitely looking forward to see what comes next!
I highly recommend this book but you absolutely HAVE to read Epidemic first!

Wow. Samaire Provost has out done herself with this gripping sequel to Mad World: Epidemic. Behind every zombie lays a family still holding on to the hope that a cure may be found or they can somehow manage to help their loved one maintain control, if only that were truly the case. Sanctuary takes off running five years after the cliffhanger of an ending for Epidemic and doesn’t slow down. We find our makeshift family of survivors moving from town to town not only trying to escape from Zombies but now they are faced with being hunted by their own government. The CDC knows about Luke and they are prepared to use any means necessary to acquire the child. Their only hope: reaching the Canadian Sanctuary. Problem is that not only is the CDC quickly closing in on them but the deadly zombie infection is evolving, creating a more organized threat. Staying true to her cliffhanger ending, Provost keeps a tight grip until the very last word leaving you hungry for more.

Like the first book in the series, this is a thrill-a-minute roller-coaster ride. But whereas many authors in this genre are content to reproduce earlier work, this author expands on it by creating more nuanced relationships and a more varied story line in her second outing. I'm often put off by sequels that pick up several years after the first installment left off, but it works here. The characters matured just as you'd expect them to in real life. While the setting is definitely NOT our everyday world, the characters seem real and react in very human ways to some very inhuman threats. A quick read that will keep you holding on to the edge of your seat throughout.

I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The second book in the Mad World series, Sanctuary takes place five years after the events of Epidemic. As Samaire Provost takes us back into the Dystopian world she's created with a resurgence of the Black Plague, we find the characters struggling to survive in a world full of zombies. At the end of Epidemic the characters who survived were 4 teenagers, 1 young child and a newborn, who wasn't fully human. Now these same characters are 4 young adults in their early twenties, a young teenage girl of 13 - who's going on twenty five, and a five year old boy, who's special and possibly crucial to the outlook for the human race.

Alyssa, Ryan, DeAndre, Caitlyn, Rissa and Luke have managed to survive the last five years by moving further and further east trying to outrun the plague. Fighting zombies to survive and laying low has become their way of life. Staying under the radar so the CDC doesn't track them has also become important as Luke, the human/zombie hybrid baby has become a part of the family and considers Alyssa and Ryan his parents and Rissa as his older sister. When they receive a warning that the CDC is close to where they are hiding, they all agree to go north to Canada in search of a place known only as "Sanctuary".

As the group tries to make their way north, they'll be faced with familiar hardships; the zombies always seem to pop up everywhere and when you least expect them, and they find themselves giving shelter to a man who may or may not turn out to be a spy for the CDC. I really liked how Ms. Provost kept the pace moving in this installment of the trilogy, the young people have really matured and become a family unit. Their devotion to each other is evident in how they care for each other and how they defend the group. It was really nice to see how they've come to accept Luke and want to protect him, even though he's not fully human. He's really a nice little kid and well behaved throughout the whole book too.

Will Alyssa and her new family be able to find the place known as Sanctuary? What will the future for them bring? You'll have to read Sanctuary to find out. I really enjoyed this installment and the twists and turns Ms. Provost brings to the story. I have to give you a warning though - this story does have a cliffhanger type ending and now I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on Desperation, the next book in this series.

Its been 5 and a half years since the Yersinia Pestis bacterium had gotten out from the Stanford University Lab and things have gotten worse.
Not only has the virus spread into connecting states and out of the country, it has also mutated into a bunch of different strands of the virus and the
Scientists can't keep up to try and find a cure. The military can't even keep the virus contained and people have taken to dealing with the strange
"zombies" on their own. Some are hiding out in their homes but others have chose to hunt the "Zombies"s themselves.

You remember the gang from Epidemic? Jacob, DeAndre, Caitlyn, Risa, and of course Alyssa. They are still together and are now a lot stronger
and wiser when it comes to the Zombies, how to stay away from them, and if need be how to kill them. For now, They've kind of given up on figuring
out the virus and are pretty much just moving around from place to place trying to keep each other safe. The reason for that is because of Luke. Luke
was just born at the end of the last book and now he's a very special little toddler. I say special because he was born just as his mother Holly was going
through the transformation of becoming a Zombie. He's your typical little boy. He plays with cars, he likes bed time stories, other than the grey tint to
some parts of his face and body He's normal. Luke is a hybrid. Half human half Zombie. The CDC knows about Luke, from the tests that were done at
the hospital 5 years earlier, and things are about to get a lot worse for the gang. They want Luke bad and are willing to do anything to get him. Alyssa,
Jacob and the rest of them are going to have to keep two steps a head of the CDC if they want to keep Luke safe and alive.

This second book totally lived up to the first . You still have all the Zombie action going on and much much more.

I'm so glad there is another book to look forward too. I'm hooked.

If you haven't read the first book (Epidemic), it's advisable although not necessary. The novel finds Alyssa and her friends five years after the outbreak of the epidemic that transforms humans into flesh eating zombies. They must travel to Canada to find sanctuary from a mad world populated by zombies who can ambush them at any time. The book is very exciting and full of suspense. There are many fast moving scenes and close calls. There are several surprises along the way. I can't wait to read the third book in the series to see what happens. Because there are some heart pounding, scary scenes in the book, I don't recommend it for children under the age of 12.

Just finished reading Sanctuary, and it was incredible. I love the theory of Zombies possibly being able to communicate with one another. The whole water tower part in this book had me floored. I was scared for them! (Sorry if I'm spoiling anyone's future read but I haven't given that much details)This book was awesome, and I absolutely loved it, It isn't like every traditional zombie story, it has alot of creative ideas and insane swerves. Just like Epidemic, this story has kept me on the edge of my seat. Thank you Samaire for a (once again) amazing reading experience. Can't wait to read what's coming next! )o(

This is the continuing story of Alyssa, Jake, Caitlyn, Risa, DeAndre, and Luke. It is just as fast-paced as the first book EPIDEMIC. The best scene was the scene where everyone is trying to find Luke, in the forest and the two farms. Then they find him while they are fighting a zombie, and it is a very tense scene.
This book ends sad again, like the first. But I hope the next book will be out soon so I can find out WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!!!

In Book 2, we're five years in the future. The group of kids who were just friends, have now become a family. The CDC wants little Luke because they've found out he's a hybrid human and if they dissect him they may find a cure for this epidemic. Because of this they must stay on the run and hope to find the santuary that they heard about located in Canada. Once again, a great page turner with a cliffhanger ending, a must read for all Apocalyptic/Zombie fans!

Samaire Provost does it again! It is five years later and the epidemic still rages on. How these characters keep their sanity in the crazy, frightening world is beyond me. The ending, of course, was unexpected. Looking forward to book #3.

After finishing off the first book in this series, Mad World: Epidemic, I was excited to see the story continued, especially since I don’t usually read books from a series right after another. Even though the story took place several years later, Mad World: Sanctuary turned out to be disappointing, enough that I am not sure if I want to continue the series after all.

At the beginning, we are tossed back into the story, with a few reminders here and there about the previous book that I felt were more awkward than necessary. The story picks up five years later with the same characters and a few changes in their lives. They are now traveling with a five year old boy who is half zombie (or something) and they have all paired up as couples except for the youngest girl. Also, they have to constantly hide from the government in order to keep Luke (the zombie-child.) While I expected some more action packed events full of zombies, now that the outbreak was five years + in, the amount of zombies was about the same as in the first book. While one scene does stand out because there are numerous zombies involved, the horror scenes were more of the same and not really exciting or creepy.

The story doesn’t develop much either, since the characters spend the book just re-locating from one place to another. Instead we get similar fight scenes, a lot of driving around in a van (and only having energy drinks or soda, which was also something that bugged me about the first one but I failed to mention in my review) and constantly being followed, although they don’t come across anyone until the last third of the book. They manage to meet some new people but the predicaments sounded way too familiar (almost like some of the volumes of The Walking Dead, actually) so I wasn’t really entertained.

The only thing that redeemed this book for me, in fact, was the ending because there is a twist I didn’t see coming, which turns into a cliffhanger of an ending. So if I want to know what’s in store for these characters, I would have to read the next book and I am just not interested. Overall, I found this to be a weak filler of a book to continue the series without adding anything significant to the story until the very end.

I loved, LOVED Epidemic. It was fantastic, emotional, terrifying, exhilarating, nauseating, and horrifying.

Sanctuary was ... good. I have this thing against series that jump ahead years in each book. Sanctuary takes place several years after Epidemic. I understand, because then Luke can be a character, and not just a baby. And since he becomes pretty important ... I mean it makes sense. I guess I just really feel like I missed out on the developing relationships, meeting new people, and the struggles they went through.

That being said, Sanctuary still keeps you on the edge of your seat, gripping your book (or kindle as was my case!) and leaving all the damn lights on. Sorry dogs, mommy is reading a scary zombie book so she can't take you outside after dark.

I really felt the love their little family unit had for one another, even though they make some STUPID choices ... dumb, silly, obvious (to me anyway) bad decisions that keep you screaming at them and hoping certain people get picked off by the zombies. Wait, is that wrong? No? Moving on ... Jake and Alyssa are two fantastic people that even through all the crap still have faith in humanity. And the fact that they love each other and their "son" is clear. I kept wanting to wrap the whole group up in a bear hug and bring them to my house where they would be safe.

Overall, a good sequel to Epidemic. The ending leaves you kind of wondering WTF? and wanting to know where the heck they will go from there. If you liked Epidemic, I definitely suggest reading Sanctuary. Then come back here and help me yell at the characters. :-)

I received a copy of Mad World: Sanctuary by Samaire Provost in exchange for an honest review by CLP BLOG TOURS.

Mad World: Sanctuary begins in the year 2017, and the Black Plague infection has now swept across most of the US, leaving countless deaths and chaos in its wake. Outbreaks continue to crop up .. and more often in areas where they are least expected. Several years after the first installment in this series, the same characters find themselves grown up facing adult realities, while at the same time, dealing with an absolute Mad World. The main characters head north in hopes of finding a sanctuary, but along the way, they face worsening odds and terrible hardships, and they fight to stay alive and protect one another. Will they find the fabled sanctuary and be safe at last? Or will they spend their every moment fighting to stay safe and alive?

Wow! I was so excited to start the second book in this series that I read this one right after I finished the first. This book is definitely gritty and scary most of the time. Yes, I am a huge wimp and I had a few nightmares from reading, but I just couldn’t put it down. There are so many heart racing scenes throughout the book that you can actually see what is happening throughout the book. Once again, Samaire does such a wonderful job at creating such real characters with real feelings as they face the terrible world in 2017. I felt for the characters in Epidemic but found myself really reeled in for them this time. Overall, a fantastic read if you like anything having to do with these types of situation. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to see what Samaire produces next!

Samaire's Epidemic reminds me very much of the events in The Passage by Justin Cronin. The Zombies are very much like the "smokes", "virals" or whatever you would like to call them. Epidemic takes place in 2012 and is about Stanford University uncovering details about the Black Plague from history and they end up bringing the plague back and worse than ever. People are infected by bites or any type of bodily fluid contact. In the midst of all the losses, a child is born - Luke - he is their only real happiness. Luke has some gray coloring (the coloring of the zombies) but is otherwise a normal baby. He was born to his mother as she was transforming into a zombie. Epidemic ends with Luke.

Sanctuary takes place five years later and the characters are struggling to stay alive. The disease has spread more and more to almost a full end of the world as we know it. The characters are trying to reach a sanctuary in the East. Their families are all dead - they never made it to Arizona in the first book. The group of kids is now older, Luke is 5 and they have learned alot about how to deal with the zombies by hiding or killing them. The government wants Luke - he is the only living soul with zombie like characteristics of gray coloring. How has he survived? Is he the key to the future? Time will tell....

I received copies of these books in exchange for an honest review.

This was book two of the Mad World series. Book one was Epidemic and while it is not necessary to read it first, as you do get some back story, I was glad that I did. (Here is my review) Sanctuary starts out five years after the epidemic started. Alyssa and friends - now family - have not stayed in one place for long. They continue to move because they are afraid for Luke - he was born as his mother was turning because of the plague. So he is somewhat of a hybrid. They have discovered that the CDC are hunting them because they want to dissect Luke to see if they can find a cure.

They have heard about a place in Canada called Sanctuary and set off to try to get there. Along the way they meet new friends and run into the ever present zombies which can crop up anywhere these days. They take off for Canada via South and North Dakota, not knowing what is out there and even how they are going to be able to cross over into Canada.

I liked the way that the story stayed true to the relationships that had developed in book one - and how Risa had grown up and was a street smart teenager now. Luke was a loveable little boy, but all he knew was zombies, and he had seen his share. Some of the run-ins with the zombies were entertaining as well as gory.

The ending sends you further into the future and set ups nicely for another book.

195 page Mad World novel.

Cover to cover excitement highlights this second book of the Mad World trilogy. As in the first novel, Provost leaves you anxious to grab the third.

Alyssa, Jacob and their small group of survivors continue their journeys in an attempt to find a peaceful existence. Getting as far away from the chaos of the infected they experienced in California, is only part of the problem. They also have to hide from the CDC because of a secret they carry with them.

Continuing to move from place to place across the nation and unable to stay for extended periods, they learn of the existence of a location in Canada known as the Sanctuary. So, the group loads up their belongings and makes the trek from the southern US to Canada.

They need a plan, though. In order to keep their citizens safe from the epidemic turning pandemic in the US, Canada has closed its borders.

“Sanctuary” is extremely hard to put down. You’re always telling yourself “Well, one more chapter.”

Samaire Provost is now on tour with CLP Blog Tours and Mad World: Sanctuary. This book is the follow-up to Mad World: Epidemic, a book I surprisingly loved. I say surprisingly because I’m not a big fan of zombies and that is the focus of this series, but I was hooked from the beginning. Sanctuary picks up a couple years after the Black Plague infection swept through the United States and the gang - Alyssa, Jacob, DeAndre, Caitlyn, Risa and new addition Luke – are still just trying to survive. While survival is the main focus, protecting five year old Luke (who was born as his mother was turning into a zombie) from scientists who are trying to find a cure for the infection is a big issue as well. The odds seem against them, but can continue to survive?

Ooh, this book gave me the chills. My fiancé is a big fan of all the zombie shows, so I enjoyed talking to him about these books. There is one part in the book with a farmer couple that really got a rise out of both me and him, and was really surreal to think about. Again the writing was fast-paced and there was action on every page. Just like in Epidemic there is a cliff-hanger, and that makes me really anxious to get to the next books! I know there are two more set to come out, and I will be anxiously waiting for them!

The second book of this oh so awesome trilogy was almost as good as the first book, I say almost because the central valley of California is only mentioned and not actually there and talking about spots I see all the time, but that is expected since there is no possible way at all that anybody could stay around here lol. It is a few years later and they are in Canada. I loved reading about how the west coast has crumbled and how the rest of the country is doing with zombie outbreaks. The writing is exceptional. This book has everything from hybrid zombies to zombies that are, getting smarter? They sure are able to learn anyway and work together. The ending, wow. What an emotional ending that was. I'm not one to normally cry or anything about characters in a book, but this ending made me tear up some. I can not wait to read the third book.

I was extremely anxious to start this book after reading Mad World: Epidemic. Any zombie story sucks me in, and it is even better when you don't at first realize it'll be a zombie story. Which is why I had fallen in love with the first book in this series. In the second installment of Mad World, we are brought into a world five years after the epidemic has occurred. I was a little surprised at the big time gap, but in all honesty, it made sense. If none of the main characters die, why do you need to fill in all those years?

Great series

This book is a little different than other zombie books. I wouldn't say I was hooked with the first book, but I was invested enough to hop in to this one. This one DID have me hooked from the beginning. The suspense builds up well. It's worth reading if you're into zombies.

3.5 stars - not as excellent as the first but a good read

Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy this book but not quite as much as the first book, Mad World: Epidemic. (See my review of Epidemic here.) I read this book every free chance I had and I could not put it down.

We are back with Jacob, Alyssa, Luke, and the rest of their little "family" about five years after Epidemic ended. Jacob and Alyssa have grown up more out of necessity than anything else. At some points, though, they seemed to lack maturity in that they were just too trusting...especially with the gentleman from the CDC. Alyssa and Jacob truly love each other and will do anything to protect each other and their family. This love is evident throughout the book...all the way to the end.

Luke is now 5 years old and showing some unique characteristics of being half-human, half-zombie. The government wants him in order to figure out a way to stop this plague. But their intentions are not keep the boy safe. Luke is a great character because even though he is young, he is rather smart. He listens to his mom and dad and learned how to survive in the crazy world that they are currently living in. You just want to hug Luke.

The action in this book is just about as intense as the action in the first book. However, Sanctuary was written as if Alyssa was telling us what had happened after the fact. And Alyssa often gave us the outcome prior to telling us the story. This took away from the suspense for me. The stories were still exciting but the edge-of-your-seat waiting to find out what happens experience wasn't always there. There was also a lot of repeating stories and events as well that took away a bit from the book.

With that being said, this was a great read! I cannot believe the ending...what a cliffhanger!!!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!

Would I recommend it: I would recommend it. Please read Mad World: Epidemic first.

Will I read it again: I will not read this book again but I will read the next book in this series! I have to find out what happens next!

Book two was fast action and continued the travels of Alyssa, Jake, and their "family". The family would grow as others were allowed in and found refuge with this group. They learned to trust their sixth sense in a country overtaken by zombies. The strength of the characters grew as time progressed and they became a tightly woven cohesive team and family and their love and respect for one another sustained them against every evil they encountered. There was always a threat; always a need to pay attention and be prepared to fight for survival.

This was a fast read and every bit as suspenseful as the first book. I am now anxious to get my hands on a copy of Desperation, the third in the Mad World Series. Apparently in Desperation, there is a new threat to challenge our family of survivors. And I need to know what will yet happen! I am truly sorry it has taken me so long to read and post these reviews. Trust me, the books are interesting, fast paced, emotionally charged and full of twists and surprises.

Whether or not you could survive a zombie apocalypse seems to be a hot topic on social media. But it’s all fantasy. When the discussion is over, we go back to our safe, rather uneventful lives. Imagine there was no escape. That the Zombies were overtaking the entire world. Your survival instinct would soon kick in and you would seek sanctuary.

It’s easy to forget that the main characters in this trilogy are a group of kids who are forced to grow up very quickly. Their lives depend on it. To be honest, as I was reading "Sanctuary", I realized that I wasn't sure what was more disturbing. The Zombie attacks or the fact that they’d become so commonplace.

This is definitely not a bedtime story.

A good follow up to Epidemic, by the same author. The story picks up 5 years after Epidemic ends. It has an intriguing storyline with a gripping hunt scene, which makes this a book that's hard to put down (and easy to pick up again, whilst forgetting all about the dinner that's burning or the chores that need to be done). I enjoyed the book. It will be interesting to see how the author wraps it all up in the coming finale. I recommend this book with the first in the series as a MUST READ!

This book took me a little longer to get through. It wasn't my favorite but it wasn't bad either. I'm happy that the author has another book as I'm excited to read what happens next. I'm happy that they found a sanctuary as I was starting to feel tired for them and I'm glad that they were able to last 15 years. hopefully they are able to find a cure for this and life can go back, which does it go back to the way it was before, or something really different.
