"Book One in" The Preacher's Toolbox "series tackles one of the most important forms of preaching for the 21st century "
The first book in Hendrickson's new "Preacher's Toolbox" series brings together a "who's who" group of today's most influential pastors, who share their understanding of prophetic preaching as well as their skills. The book is divided into two sections, "The Calling of Prophetic Preaching" and "The Craft of Prophetic Preaching," which deliver clear themes and practical takeaways on the art of preaching prophetically. Speaking with grace and authority, preachers such as Francis Chan, Mark Buchanan, John Ortberg, Mark Driscoll, Timothy Keller, and Anne Graham Lotz offer Biblical and personal messages on prophetic preaching while addressing commonly held questions such as:
- What's the purpose and aim of prophetic preaching? - How do you do it? - What are the common misconceptions? - How does a preacher challenge but not overwhelm people with the call of discipleship?

This book has some helpful thoughts on preaching prophetically but nothing revolutionary. Odds are most pastors reading this book about prophetic preaching already know most of what is said in this book. That being said, the contributing pastors offer helpful reminders about preaching the Word of God and all pastors could use these reminders.
Disappointing in comparison with another book from this series which I enjoyed. It felt all too predictable and lacked any element on how prophecy and hence prophetic preaching may have evolved under the New Covenant. It might be useful for anyone who comes from a preaching tradition that lacks an element of cultural criticism, but otherwise it doesn't really seem to say anything fresh (unless I missed something).
Great resource for new preachers/pastors with multiple respectable contributors: Keller, Lotz, Chan, etc. There are preaching/message prep helps in here that could serve very helpful. I particularly liked the messages from Ann Graham Lotz and Lyle in this book.
