The We Both Read audio books are particularly helpful to use with the corresponding printed books in the classroom. They are also very effective for use with ELL/ESL students. Too Many Cats/Demasiados Gatos is a bilingual title (Spanish/English) which focuses on reading the names for colors and the numbers from one to ten. Suzu is finding cats all over the house - and in very unusual colors! This Level K book is designed for the child who is just being introduced to reading.
This will be fun to read with a child ... numbers, colors, and easy words. I thought it was overdone, but kids may like the repetition.
My 6-yr-old niece is in town. She's a strong reader, so it was no surprise when she spotted this book and wanted to read it. I pointed out the two levels of reading, and she said "This is about right for me." She was referring to the adult reader pages. She proceeded to read it to me, but I could tell that she wanted to study the pictures, so I suggested that we read the story as intended. She agreed and seemed very engaged. When we finished talking about the book, I asked if she wanted to keep it or if we should take it to the little lending library. She jumped up and we walked right down to the little library where she positioned it in a prominent place.
Suzu wants a white cat, but is afraid her mom will get her a red hat for her birthday instead. As she falls asleep she finds a white cat, then another cat, then another! She keeps finding cats. Of course, it is just a dream and she ends up getting a white cat from her mom in real life. The neat part about this book is that it is a "We Both Read" book~~an adult reads the difficult text on the left page, the child reads the easy text on the right page. Example of the child's portion: "...a white cat."
For Kindergarten children, I would use this book in the classroom to help children recognize colors, help with counting, and the book offers good questions to ask young children to build critical thinking.
This is a wonderful book for a child who's just learning to read. It's funny and smart and intelligible for kindergartners while not boring the parent silly. Plus, it will always have a special place in my heart because it's the first book my son read by himself.
My kids love the We Both Read books. It is a great way to kick start daily reading. My older son picked this out for my younger son because he remembered it fondly. It was so fun and silly we read it even though it is way below his reading level at this point.
45 months - great concept of having the left page be for the parent to read and the right (less wordy) page for the child. This one focuses on colors, numbers and lots of cats! O really enjoyed it.
It’s a repetitive book but very long for a a beginner reader. This book is more for 2nd grade up to probably 4th grade reading level. I ended up reading the book to my son instead of the other way around do to the verbiage.
