Very interesting read on the well-known and obscure women of California history. Not all were born in California but they all ended up here. The book covers just about every arena of careers, politics, medicine, education, etc. and includes those who have gone already and those who are still alive. Lots of information that I didn't know--such as the little gem of "a woman doctor invented the road striping to differentiate the lanes on roads." Considering the sad state of striping on the highways/freeways leading in and out of Stockton, Dr. June McCarroll would be quite displeased with the City of Stockton, County of San Joaquin, and State of California. A very interesting read!
The concise biographies of multiple women of California who, through sheer perseverance, took groundbreaking steps to become literal trailblazers in the development and creation of what is now present-day California. Most of these women, born outside of California were inspired to come to California in hopes of creating a better life for themselves and their families and in some cases, be the first females in male-dominated careers and industries.
What wonderful trailblazers we have had in California. An easy read and very informative. I would recommend this to any woman living in California. Another side of California history.
If you appreciate history this a good quick lesson! I enjoyed the photos and short summaries of each women and what they did to serve future women and the state of California.
Really good book showcasing the women who helped make California what it is today. Anyone interested in the history of California should read this book.
There are plenty of photographic images to accompany the book and my only gripe is that none of them are dated.
