Rate this book
In this addictive standalone, Jackie is tasked with protecting Aurora, but the catch? She has to pretend to be her girlfriend.

Jackie, a former Navy SEAL, has made a name for herself in the private security sector. When she's assigned to protect the high-profile CEO, Aurora, she's ready for a tough assignment but not for the woman she encounters.

Aurora is a self-made millionaire, known for her ruthless business tactics and her cold demeanor, earning her the nickname "the Ice Queen of Wall Street". Jackie is sure this assignment will be a challenge, but she's unprepared for the woman beneath the icy exterior.

Aurora doesn't want a bodyguard, and she's prepared to make Jackie's job as difficult as possible. But when a real threat to her safety emerges, Aurora must learn to trust Jackie. As the two navigate this tense situation, an undeniable attraction begins to simmer beneath the surface.

When Aurora's mom falls ill, she rushes back to the rustic familiarity of their Texas ranch. However, she's determined to shield her family from the danger she's facing. Jackie finds herself reluctantly stepping into a charade, playing the role of Aurora's girlfriend despite her reservations.

Will Jackie be able to maintain her professional boundaries, or will the sparks between them prove too hard to resist? Will Jackie's dedication to her duty put Aurora's life in danger or will it bring them closer than they ever imagined possible? Will they be able to find happiness together, or will their differences prove too great?

This has the potential to be epic, with a solid storyline and likeable characters. However, the author focuses on the descriptions more than just relaxing into the storytelling, which lets this book down somewhat; there's also an overuse of the word formidable. Nonetheless, it's still a good story.

DNF at 40% started promising but I lost interest with the storyline of lack of. There was an obvious back story with the mysterious Marcus and his intentions ??? and Arouras mum who was seriously ill so much so that her husband had to go on a business trip but then just got better. I just didn't care how it ended.
