She’s my fantasy. And I have a proposition that will change her world.

She’s my older brother’s ex.
She’s also the star of all my junior high fantasies.
A friend I’ve crushed on my entire life. That’s a secret I’ll take to the grave.

When she shares with me her plan to find a sperm donor, she doesn’t have to go far. As a matter of fact, she doesn’t need to leave my penthouse.

I’m an orthopedic surgeon in the running for a prestigious fellowship. I save and improve lives, and strive for the best possible outcomes. I push the envelope and succeed. Relationships aren’t for me. I don’t have the time, nor the desire.

But living out my teenage fantasies while helping a friend?
A secret arrangement no family member will ever know about?

This is what I call a win-win.

Always Sunny is a standalone medical reverse age gap forbidden romance between Ian, the youngest Duke brother, and Sandra, or as Ian has always called her, Sunny. Heart-pounding romance. Unforgettable heroes. Sizzling happily-ever-afters—with a side of suspense that'll keep you up way past bedtime.

I dreamed of being a writer as a kid but took the "safe" route: journalism degree, advertising career, MBA, corporate gigs at Chase and Universal. Then in 2020, I said screw it and published my first book. Twenty-five books later, I'm living the dream.

I'm also a mom to two teenage daughters who are perpetually mortified by my career choices. My husband's an entrepreneur whose latest product is Nampons (yes, it rhymes with tampons and yes, it's for nosebleeds). Between my spicy romance and his biz... we've cornered the market on parental embarrassment.

My books feature tough characters facing tougher choices, compelling suspense, and storylines that'll make you think. But no matter how dark things get, my people always choose love.

*I received an advanced readers copy for my honest review of the book.*

This book hit close to home, literally and figuratively. Sunny is a woman I can relate. Someone with dreams and a career that’s thriving but still a sense of longing. Small town life is not for the faint at heart and will have you quickly developing a thick skin.

Ian, youngest son of the “golden family” . He is successful and attractive but still compares himself to his two older brothers. Ian has left small town life behind for a successful career in the city.

When a childhood crush comes face to face with the grown up little brother, things start to ignite. Is it passion or lust? Are there still feelings tied to past relationships? And can the ultimate offer be what brings them together or separate them forever? You get small town and big city love with book and I couldn’t put it down!

I enjoyed this book a lot. Sandra/Sunny and Ian’s story was a little unconventional but a good friends to lovers story. Sunny is turning 40 and her biological clock is ticking. Ian, at 8 years younger, offers to help Sunny. This is a good story, but they are both a tiny bit frustrating at times. Sunny is a successful business woman, but I would have actually liked to see a woman running a successful business, not a bit of a doormat, opening two salons/spas and one being higher end is not for the faint of heart, but she seems absent from the business.

Overall I liked their story!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥

Sandra Turner -- Sunny to her friends -- wants a baby. She is pushing 40, and with two businesses in her small town, she does not think she has the time to find the perfect guy to build a family with. When her ex-boyfriend's younger brother finds out that she is in search of a sperm donor, he makes a proposal that seems like it was taken from her fantasies..forbidden fantasies of him.

Ian Duke has harbored a crush on Sunny, but he could never make a move because she was his brother's girlfriend. When he hears that she is searching for a donor to fulfill her wishes to build a family of her own, he immediately jumps on the opportunity to help her out and fulfill from childhood fantasies of his own.

But Ian is not the long-term type, and Sunny clearly wants happily ever after. Once Sunny's wish is granted, would these two be able to walk away?

Reverse age-gap romances are my Kryptonite, and Isabel Jolie delivered. I love the connection between Ian and Sunny. I immediately got the chemistry when they are first together in the book, and I love how Jolie infuses small details that establish the long history of their pining.

Be warned: this read is ANGSTY. We travel back and forth in the timeline, which throws the pacing off at certain points, but Jolie recovers by drawing me back into the story. With childhood friends, we expect a lot of history, but these two carry enough baggage for a 747. I enjoy their journey of addressing those together. I especially cheered for Sunny's growth as she finds her confidence and voice in her small town.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Isabel Jolie and Grey's Promotions for providing an ARC. **

Always Sunny is a friends to lovers stand alone by Isabel Jolie- but if you have read How to Survive a Holiday Fling or Trust Me, you may recognize the characters.

Ian Duke and Sandra "Sunny" Turner have a long history- Sunny was Ian's older brother Sam's high school sweetheart and he was just the little brother with a crush. Over the years though they formed a friendship and when Ian finds out that Sunny is pursuing life at 40 as a single mother via donor, Ian is quick to offer a different arrangement between them.

3.5 ⭐

Ok, so I have some mixed feelings about this book. First of all, I love Isabel's work- she crafts stories that are engaging and captivating, her characters are layered and real but something about this book just didn't completely click for me until the last couple chapters. The story does a bit of time jumping- and maybe that was part of my disconnect because my brain is tired and I was having trouble understanding where exactly I was in the timeline leading up to the present day of the prologue. I liked Ian, he's thoughtful, kind and a bit of an unapologetic workaholic. Sunny is a sweet character- but she is entirely too concerned about other people's perceptions of her. I wish there was some more of their interactions and time together over the course of their initial relationship- they obviously became much closer and formed stronger connections to one another but it was almost like much of it took place off page and I would have loved to "witness" it.

I loved how the story took shape once these two started actually communicating and not hiding behind their insecurities or perceptions. Isabel has dropped some hints and drummed up interest in a book for Ian's best friend Harrison- he's got a story and I can't wait to see what he brings.

Always Sunny is a standalone by Ms. Jolie, but if you've read How to Survive a Holiday Fling or Trust Me they you will recognize these characters and the Duke family who are a really cool family in my opinion! Sunny/Sandra & Ian's story encompasses a whole plethora of tropes -- friends to lovers, ex-boyfriend, ex-girlfriend, pregnancy issues, long-distance relationship and the big one - mis-communication. I knew I was going to really like Ian and he didn't disappoint in any way. I really like Sunny's outlook on life and her optimistic attitude, but she made me mad with all the worrying she did about what people thought about her decisions but that's just my pet peeve! For someone a bit more mature and so strong and resilient I didn't expect her to cave to other people's ideas/judgment, but that's just me! I really enjoy Ms. Jolie's style of writing -- her books flow easily and keep me interested throughout the entire read. I found Ian's snippets about his orthopedic surgeon career to be really interesting too. I thought that aspect of the story line was really well done. And because I like the Duke family so much, I really enjoyed re-visiting all those characters! All in all this is a solid 4-star read for me and I would definitely recommend it if you've never read anything by this author. I'm grateful to have been given an opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.

Ian and Sunny's Story . . .

Ian Duke and Sandra Turner ("Sunny") have known each other for a long time since Ian’s older brother, Sam, used to date Sunny. In fact, Ian has secretly nurtured a crush on her since his teens. But their friendship has always been there. So when he discovers that Sunny’s biological clock is ticking down and she wants to have a child of her own, he is ready to step forward and offer to be her donor.

Watching how loving and caring Ian is with Sunny will melt your heart. Surprisingly, I found Sunny’s character to be a bit immature at first, but she did get better as the story moved forward. Will Ian and Sunny get a HEA finally? Will she fall in love with him as she sees him for the wonderful man he has become?

The youngest Duke brother gets his shot! Loved this brother’s ex/older woman, younger man story. I was drawn into the characters & their lives almost immediately.
Small town, close family and friends with a long shared history and a ticking biological clock. Ian has always wanted Sandra but she was his brother’s girlfriend and off limits. I loved the forbidden aspect and there was a good amount of angst and emotion in this story. Enjoyed the way the chapters counted down to the present. Smooth read.

Wonderful:
What a delightful book! I loved how unique and unexpected this story turned out to be and despite being quite emotional, it was still a fun and thoroughly enjoyable read.
Sandra/Sunny and Ian were childhood friends to lovers with a twist. Things were complicated given the fact that he was her ex’s little brother and the unconventional arrangement they entered into. Poor Sunny also had so many insecurities and fears despite always trying to be positive and I wished these two had of opened up much sooner and admitted what they were truly feeling!
Whilst this book is centered around the youngest Duke brother and characters from previous books (Trust Me & How to Survive a Holiday Fling) make an appearance, it can still very much be enjoyed as a standalone. I loved the ending and especially the romantic proposal...

Holy wow. I think I loved this pair about as much as they drove me batty. It was easy to see how much Ian adored his Sunny, but it hurt my heart to watch her view him as only a friend. And when they were finally able to cross that divide, and my gooey marshmallow heart was happy for them falling in love, I wanted to bang their heads together over all the things they should have said earlier but didn’t. In the end, I kind of feel like this story was a celebration of ‘chosen family’, because whether by blood, marriage, or simply association, these were all Dukes and they were going to support one another no matter what. Now, I hope the author has lots more stories to tell about these characters in the future.

Always Sunny by Isabel Jolie is a complete stand-alone, although there are characters from other books. Ian Duke is the brother of Sam Duke (Trust Me) and Oliver Duke (How To Survive A Fling). Ian has always had a major crush on Sam's ex-girlfriend, so it's a forbidden, age-gap romance. Sandra (Sunny) is 39/40, and Ian is 31/32. It's a really good story, and I honestly enjoyed it. This author is an amazing writer and storyteller, and I've loved everything she's ever written. Her stories are always so heartfelt and realistic, and I can't wait for more. In the meantime, this one is highly recommended!

This is a forbidden romance and it is Sandra (Sunny ) and Ian’s story. Ian is a successful orthopaedic surgeon and what everyone didn’t know is that he has been in love with Sandra for years but unfortunately she is also the ex girlfriend of his brother so that makes her off limits but when Sandra reveals that she wants a baby it is Ian that offers her his help. Sandra is desperate for a baby before it is too late so she needs to look into getting a donor but imagine her surprise when Ian offers to help her but it will have to happen in the old fashion way not knowing that it will change both of there lives. When Ian and Sandra decide to go for it they realise that they will have to keep it a secret from everyone because if it is revealed it could cause major complications for all of them. There are ups and downs, trust issues, baggage and emotional situations along with great characters and storyline and I look forward to reading more books in the future.

Loved the title with all the subtext behind those words…also the older woman but not too much works… she had so many misguided fears and there probably would be rumors but not from those who matter…loved the ending.

This is a well written reverse age gap taboo romance with strong characters in Sunny and Ian. The author does a great job developing their relationship and storyline. They have some ups and downs to overcome along the way to their HEA. She tells the story in the dual POV , brings out all the feels with laughter and tears and delivers a terrific read. Loved it !!

Sunny and Ian may seem a tad unlikely at first, and you’ll DEFINITELY start out wanting someone’s head on a platter, but I promise that it all makes sense. Them. Their ups and downs. Their worries and fears and love that each is terrified of letting out of the box. And if it takes a misunderstanding or two to get them to their forever, then that’s okay too.

I won’t lie. I was worried about Ian at first. And you’ll get why. But he turns out to be much smarter and mature than is given him credit for, which causes a HUGE scream of relief when the time comes for all secrets to fall into the light. And Sunny frustrated me a little, but I got exactly why she was so cautious. I probably would be also if I was in her shoes.

Luckily, these two meet in the angry middle with some hard words, some sweet secrets, and more than enough love to go around. I enjoyed my time with them and found myself wishing for happiness for Kara, the warrior I hadn’t anticipated. Maybe we’ll spend more time with her in the future also?

Told from the POV of both characters, this is Orthopedic Surgeon Ian Duke and Beauty Salon owner Sunny (Sandra) Turner's rocky road to love!!
Sunny is older than Ian plus she used to date his older brother twenty years ago.
Ian has fantasised about Sunny since he was 14 years old and has compared every woman since to her.
Will they ever be able to overcome the past?
Fantastic storyline, wonderful characters and absolutely loved the HEA.

Loved this story! Sunny s approaching 40 and desperately wants a child and decides she is going to try regardless of being single. Ian Duke, the youngest of the Duke boys has secretly loved Sunny since he was a teen and the girlfriend of his oldest brother Sam. Ian is now a surgeon and offers to be the sperm donor. They agree the father will not be known since Ian has no desire to be a husband or father and Sunny will get the child she wants. The story has its little twits and turns but Isabel weaves a wonderful story that keeps the reader turning the page. It’s a must read, as all of her books are.

So much love for this book! Ian has been in love with Sunny since he was a teen. Never thinking something may work out. Yet when Sunny is desperate trying to conceive a child Ian sees an opening. This story could have gone in so many directions but with a bit of communication (finally) it went just where it should. Just so many wonderful things happening one after the other! A fantastic read! Do not miss!

Always Sunny is Ian and his lifelong crush Sunny’s super sweet story.

Synopsis
Sandra Turner aka Sunny (only Ian calls her that) has not had the life she had imagined. In her late thirties now, her dreams seem to be catching up with her, especially the particular dream of having her own kid.

Ian Duke, single but not ready to settle down, comes to know about Sunny’s dream. Having had a huge crush (or was it love) since his teenage years with this older woman, he thinks of taking a shot at life again.

Review
This is my second read by Isabel Jolie. And her contemporary romance is as great as her romantic suspense.

Always Sunny has been narrated in the first person from Ian and Sunny's point of view. Ian Duke is an orthopaedic surgeon, who's morosely working his shifts after Sunny leaves him, while his friend Harrison finds creative yet age-old ways of theirs to make him forget as well as cheer him up.

Sandra Turner starts her story with what happened the Christmas before the last one. This is a new way of narrative that I've never come across before. The story continues with specific events from two years ago till the present, in the same vein (such as the New Year before the last etc.) and it was quite interesting, in a good way.

Sunny enjoys spending time with the Dukes, whose eldest son she dated way more than a decade ago. The Dukes too consider Sunny as family.

Crushing on and then falling in love with the elder sibling's ex is a trope that needs to be handled well to not let it feel gross and Isabel Jolie has created such a sweet story that has all the feels.
I plop down on the sofa, fully aware I sound sad, but sometimes the best way to handle sad is to let it be.

Sunny may be spreading sunshine and joy into others' lives but her life has lately been a series of sad things happening one after another. However upbeat she wants to stay (and she's an optimistic one), certain things happening one after the other seem to be bringing her down.

I'm glad to have read a story where the boy has been falling since he was a boy while the girl starts realising it much later.

There's a six-year age gap between Sunny and Ian, with her being close to 40 and him being around 34.
I think sometimes we give our worries more power than we should. Sometimes you have to envision the future you want, think through all the steps to get there, and take that first step.

I loved how they are with each other but Sunny constantly worried about being the gossip of the town.

It gave me such a high, reading this book, particularly the ending.
It’s more of a bad-boy smirk, but there’s a still a touch of a boy-next-door grin.

P.S. 'In researching Always Sunny, I read several books, most notably Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science and Hot Lights, Cold Steel: Life, Death and Sleepless Nights in a Surgeon's First Years.'

Hmm...Since the author read the above two books, I too need to check these out then.

Flip the script and dive into this emotional reverse age gap! Sunny (Sandra) has experienced a lot of loss in her life. She’s also longing to become a mother, especially since being a single foster mom didn’t work out. Even though her parents have passed away, Sunny has the support of the Duke family — the family of her high school/college sweetheart — but she doesn’t want to impose any more than she already has. She’s lived a life full of pitiful looks and managed to become a successful salon/spa owner, but still harbors a bit of insecurity. Especially when it comes to people thinking she’s not over Sam Duke. I understand how she worries about the town gossiping over her choices to become a mother and her potential choice of Ian as the father. I adore her positive, sunny outlook on everything and her 1-hour rule for being upset over something.

Ian Duke, the youngest of the Duke brothers, has been keeping a secret from everyone – he’s harbored a crush on Sunny that started back when she was dating Sam. Because of his career as a surgeon, Ian has mastered compartmentalizing things and been able to keep his feelings for Sunny under control. But once he makes the initial offer to help her have a child, his rationale shifts. Underneath the persona he’s given himself, Ian is full of love, all heart, and such a giving man. I swooned at his choice of necklace for Sunny!

Both characters are stubborn and set in their ways, but their transformation is absolutely brilliant and makes for an excellent read that I couldn’t put down. The steam is perfectly balanced with plenty of growing moments and a few twists that pull everything together in the end.

I received this as an advanced reader copy. All views are my own.

Who wouldn't want an Ian Duke in their lives? He is sweet as pie, sexy as sin and completely adorable in his almost life-long crush on his brother's ex. But the best part is, he and Sandra...Sunny...are great friends. He's supportive and protective, and never burdens her with his feelings, until he wants to give her the ultimate gift. Then those feeling show up full force.
Sandra is, honestly, a bit of a doormat. She's a nurturer, which isn't a bad thing. But she's let the community treat her like she's some poor, pitiful old maid, pining for her high school boyfriend. I wanted her to stand up for herself much sooner than she did, but much of it comes down to being a good, southern woman. I was frustrated by how people saw and treated her, not so much Sunny herself.
Together, Ian and Sunny were simply terrific. Just close friends, until he made his move and she opened her eyes. Something as simple a conversation between them was filled with emotion. And I loved the fact that she was older than him and hitting 40. While less so in the romance genre, a younger man/older woman relationship is still a bit taboo...something to be gossiped about, and not always nicely. Isabel Jolie did a fantastic job breaking through that stereotype.
Always Sunny was always entertaining, a joy to read and a book that I will recommend to others. 4.5 stars

There were a few things about this story that hindered my enjoyment, but it definitely had compelling characters and an interesting premise.
I didn't like how it started with a jump in time and then went backwards. Instead of "last Christmas", "last September", etc., I think it would have been better to just tell the story in a linear fashion, starting at the beginning.
Also, the miscommunication between the two main characters became annoying and the FMC's preoccupation with what others think overshadowed her feelings for the MMC too much. I was starting to wonder if she cared more about the MMC or about the opinions of others because it seemed like the opinions of others dictated way too many of the FMC's decisions. The miscommunication was particularly annoying because the two main characters communicated well about everything EXCEPT their feelings for each other.
This would have been a 2 star read, but the scientific, analytical way the MMC approached things and thought about things was entertaining to read throughout the story, which bumped the rating up.
Overall, I liked the characters and, while the execution could have been better, it was still entertaining. I will definitely read more from this author, starting with the book about Harrison, the MMC's best friend. He definitely seemed to be a complex character.

Always Sunny is a fabulous read. I enjoyed this one. This is a slight age gap, brother's ex, close families read. Sandra aka Sunny is given up on men and is feeling the need to have a family of her own. She has been close to Ian and his family for as long as she can remember and never thought he would the brother wanting to help. Ian is a talented surgeon and has loved Sunny from afar since he was a teenager and she was dating his older brother. He never thought he'd have that chance until he saw a way he could help. This is a slower burn relationship build that will make you smile. I love how caring Ian is of Sunny and his willingness to step up and help her with her family need. This is a sweet read that will have you rooting for Sunny and Ian all the way through. Go one click this one today.

Always Sunny is a truly remarkable romance story and it put me on an emotional rollercoaster ride. I loved Sunny, her up-beat personality, her strength of conviction, her loyalty and I could emphasize with her insecurities and her fears. Ian just turned out to be a fantastic hero - caring, determined to do everything for her, yet very relatable with doubts of his own. There are plenty of steamy scenes along with heart-breaking events, realistically described family get-togethers and heart-warming moments. Smiles and tears are very close together in this one! I'm now going to have to read up on the other Duke brothers and there are a few side characters who surely deserve their own story.

pregnancy issues, childhood crush, reverse age gap, small-town vibes, brothers ex-gf, ex-bf younger brother, miscommunication, flashbacks, angst

I thought this was going to be a 4 star read for me from the start but unfortunately, I just couldn't get over the flashbacks in time and the miscommunication between the main characters. I did enjoy the reality of the hero's profession and the honesty in pregnancy struggles. The longing that the hero experienced and then the growing attraction that the heroine grew to accept/deny was steamy and cute.

I liked the characters, though at times I wanted to swat Sandra upside the head and tell her to get over it and stop worrying about what everyone else was thinking. Then again, growing up in a small town, I get it. It was definitely a slow burn, but I liked seeing Sandra and Ian's relationship develop. I also liked how the author addressed more serious issues, such as Ian's work-life balance and concerns about being a good father, and Sandra's experiences trying to get pregnant.

(Also, not sure if it's a coincidental name or not, but seeing the name Patty Duke always made me think of the famous actress)

Ian is the youngest of three boys and a successful orthopedic surgeon. He has been in love with his good friend Sandra since he was a teenager, he is the only one who calls her Sunny and she happens to be his brothers ex girlfriend. Sandra is a business owner and is extremely close with Ian’s family especially his parents. When her biological clock starts ticking, Ian volunteers to help. This was a cute quick read with a great story and a lot of characters with strong personalities. I really enjoyed Ian and his brothers, they had great banter and a strong relationship with each other. Sandra was a bit immature and it drove me crazy how she let one of her employees basically walk all over her and disrespect her. In all I enjoyed the book and the story it told. Ian and Sandra definitely went on an emotional journey but came out better for it at the end. I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us next.

This is a well written story revealed in dual POV’s, and is a friends / lovers, reverse age gap, small town romance, with secrets, family, friendships, emotions, humor, witty banter, twists, challenges, and love, which leads to a steamy and entertaining page turner.
