Miles' comic gets a new creative team and yet again it's one that fails to even dust the shoes of Bendis' immaculate runs. New teen terror villains comes after Miles and his friends and family ooh, so dramatic not! A Two Star, 5 out of 12 unsatisfying read with above average artwork.

A good Spidey story, but it's let down by the villain. The motive behind her actions could make sense, but the way it is presented it didn't.
Besides that it's ok. There is drama, action and the necessary, for a Spider-Man book, humour. The art is solid too.

Ugh. Well, this is the first one-star i've run across in awhile. First, let me say that I am a huge Miles Morales fan and have liked him since his Bendis introduction. Sadly, Ziglar is a hack writer who relies on woke tropes to tell a story, and thus, as per usual, the story and characters suffer greatly.

Miles had a unique story, and a cool one, and his parents and he made for a good family. THIS version of Miles whines way too much, is snarky and rude, and is representative of the stupid and toxic woke style of writing.

The premise of the story is so freaking dumb that I'll briefly expand on it- a D-class villain is mad she didn't get to go to charter school and wants to hurt Miles since he got in. Yes. You read that right. Since this woke based it makes no sense-so this genius level girl, who can make super high tech gear on a broke budget is unable to go to high school?!! Yeah? Also her villain name is "The Rabble"?!!! Fuck me but that's fucking stupid.

Throw i some other crappy heroes like Misty Knight and this is one adventure I could have skipped. Ziglar's hack writing, relying on woke tropes, does NOT do this character justice.

A really fun new start.

Miles is trying to deal with his life as always but he's growing up and getting a bit older. High School is still a problem but feels like we're getting to the end of HS soon. Hoping we can get Miles in college years, would be awesome. Anyway he's dealing with a lot, plus being Spider-Man, and of course his on and off thing with his gf. Then in comes Misty Knight, yes that one, and they team up to take down some baddies.

It's a lot of fun, reminds me a lot of old school Spider-Man adventures. The art is the highlight here though, looking fucking fan-tas-tic. Like really really good fight scenes and overall feel to what's happening on the pages. Miles and Knights relationship is funny as hell and well done. I also love his relationship with his parents.

The villains come across okay here, not sure how I feel about the new one, but intrigued enough to see them go further.

A 3.5 out of 5 but I'll bump it to a 4.

WOW! This story packs several punches, and never really lets up!
Summary:
Miles is dealing with a lot: fighting a suped-up Scorpion, stress at school, stress in his relationship... all of it is getting him close to his breaking point. When new villain, The Rabble, uses her technopathy to fight with drones and electrical attacks, she pushes Miles to the limits of his abilities, but seems even more focused on taking him down completely. With the help of Misty Knight, Miles is able to save his family and friends, but not before learning Rabble's secret: she was one of the kids who didn't get to attend his school because of lottery... and she sees Miles as not being as thankful or attentive to school as she would be.
A explosive first Volume in this run. Definitely a place to jump on. Looking forward to the next one.

A start to a series of a level of mediocrity that I've rarely seen!

Miles has become a poor, fragile little thing who whines and wonders about the meaning of life, death and taxes.
That's a bad start in itself, but when I think of the villain of the story, her unfathomably stupid motivations and even more ridiculous pseudonym, my brain melts and I short-circuit. I thought I was reading one of those really bad super villain introductions from the 60s, badly written and far-fetched. It's rubbish, but their dorkiness and vintage mediocrity almost have a charm that this series sorely lacks.

I'd never heard of Cody Ziglar before this volume and I'd have liked to keep it that way.

Wild how Miles hasn't had a single run that wasn't amazing!!

The art of this book feels god-tier and the energetic effort is all over every page!

Ziglar provides a relatable story about life feeling like it's too much and how hard it is to truly balance and appreciate every part of your life. With Spider-Man typically embodying "relatability" this felt really fitting!

Misty Knight fans rejoice; as Miles teams up with her and it feels like a fantastic direction!
Villains new and old are handled really well here with difficult topics like lotteries for education!
Honestly balanced and handled really well by the volumes end!

Miles has got himself a brand new series and with that must come a bunch of brand new problems, you see Miles is somewhat struggling with life right now and has some PTSD. So he's isolating himself from his loved ones and is trying to solo everything, that doesn't work out for him and he has to team up with Misty Knight. Boy I'm glad he doesn't because before that this book was stale, it felt like the had taken the Peter Parker mold from Marvel and just slapped it on Miles, he just didn't feel the same person anymore.

The arch nemesis in this was pretty awful as well, she's a tech villain that's supposed to know everything but hasn't got the slightest clue what she's doing. Then we have people like Ganke, you know people with a long history with Miles? he's sidelined he's got like 2 panels in this.

The highlight of this was Miles taking on Scorpion, he does it twice and both fights and dialogue is very interesting. Just wish we had a bit more of that, we also have a set up for another big bad but as I've read the next volume she's gone so not idea what happened there. It's not a spoiler per say as she might be a threat to someone else but when reading it, it does seem like she's supposed to be Miles enemy.

I do think that Marvel are struggling with Miles lately, since Bendis left and he moved to 616 he's become a very basic Spider-Man in fact, he feels much more like Peter's side kick, than he's own guy. You can throw all the new powers you want at him but that doesn't make him an interesting and endearing character to follow.

Fun first volume! The villain isn’t my favourite and I have a fewwww plot issues but they’re all very minor gripes and overall I had a lot of fun. Also the art was GORGEOUS!

Aside from one frustrating thread, this is terrific Spider-Man storytelling. It's both universal and specific to Miles, and the writing and art seem equally infused with affection. It's also really fun, and I can't wait to see much, much more of the Miles/Misty dynamic duo. And more Spider-Sword please!!!

In a universe where the line between the ordinary and the extraordinary merges into an intricate web of adventures, emerges a new iteration of the iconic Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Under the expertise of writers Ziglar and Vicentini and the vibrant art of Bryan Valenza, “Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1” makes its triumphant return to the comic book scene, bringing with it a promise of intense emotions and a refreshing dose of urban realism. In this review, we dive headfirst into this electrifying journey, exploring every web of intrigue, every splash of color, and every moment of intense action that this comic book masterpiece offers us. Prepare to be ensnared by a web of emotions and discoveries as we follow Miles Morales on his mission to balance the weight of his everyday life with the demands of being one of Marvel’s greatest superheroes. Welcome to the world of Miles Morales, where adventure begins with every page turned.

From the very first moment we encounter the vibrant pages, we are immediately captivated by their stunning visual beauty. The illustrations, colors, and effects leap off the pages, bringing to life a world where action is as palpable as the emotions that permeate each panel. While the cover may not fully prepare you for the visual experience that lies ahead, simply opening the comic book immerses you in a spectacle of art that transcends the ordinary.

The beginning of this issue presents a poignant scene where a young woman dedicates herself to offering food to a homeless lady on her route. Her kindness and generosity are swiftly interrupted when we are faced with the imminent threat of Scorpion almost taking her life. Fortunately, it is Spider-Man’s intervention that prevents this tragedy from occurring. Although this young woman may seem like just a random figure, her return in the issue’s conclusion gives a sense of “not everything is as it seems.”

As the narrative unfolds, we are taken on an exhilarating journey through the urban streets that shape the backdrop of New York City, where young hero Miles Morales struggles to balance the challenges of everyday life with his responsibilities as the legendary Spider-Man. It is in this context that the talents of Ziglar and Vicentini shine, with a return to Spider-Man’s roots as a street-level hero. The focus on local issues and everyday characters brings a sense of authenticity to the story, drawing the audience into Miles Morales’ universe in a captivating way. The atmosphere of urban realism is carefully crafted, evoking a sense of familiarity while immersing us in a world full of dangers and possibilities.

This comic book brings an engaging combination of action, emotion, and intrigue from its very first moment. The plot dives directly into a sequence of events that keep readers engaged, with unexpected twists and a pulsating narrative that maintains a fast-paced rhythm from start to finish.

Additionally, the stunning art and meticulous details of the illustrations elevate the visual experience to a new level. The expressive lines and vibrant colors of each page make every scene dynamic and visually impactful, perfectly complementing the intensity of the narrative.

Strange to think that a character who's now such a multimedia big deal as Miles Morales is only just getting his third regular solo writer; a little strange too that it should be Cody Ziglar, whose previous What If series with the character drew serious flak for stereotypes. I've not read that, so can't comment, but certainly the impression here is that he's being careful to come across more thoughtful about race, to note that a kid who looks like Miles is liable to get different reactions if he turns up late for class with a black eye than a kid who looks like Peter Parker. The problem arises when characters also start talking as if this applies to them both in costume, when of course neither Spider-Man's costume gives any indication of the skin colour it conceals (unless maybe I'm missing some Simpsons stand-up 'white guys web-swing like this' vibe).

What put me off more, though, is that at the same time as Peter Parker's comic is slogging through a story about him alienating everyone close to him, and you'd think it might make sense for the other Spider-Man's series to vary the tone, here we get Miles doing much the same. Possibly not a direction that will last much beyond this volume, after the way the villain determinedly targets his family and friends - but at the same time, that villain feels like such a clumsy, cackling execution of what could have been a good concept that I'm not much minded to come back and find out. Still, if nothing else Vicentini and Valenza's visuals have some of the same angular energy as the Spider-Verse films, albeit not always with the same clarity.

This maybe one of the best Spidey stories in a long time like the story is of Miles messing things up in personal life and facing villains like Bumbler and later on scorpion who has become more deadly, meanwhile getting a new mentor in Misty which I love but what happens when a new villain called "The rabble" targets him and makes it her mission to go after him and it becomes so interesting, seeing her origins and how it ties to miles and tbh her motivations are quite well defined, you can't blame her for doing what she does, but man she is an over-the-top villain maybe its for comic effect but you know it does have a real-world related commentary and I love that for it, doing the villain well and giving the hero a personal story, it ticks all check marks as far as I am concerned and its awesome!

This was a story which was personal for miles and puts his supporting cast in danger and really challenges real world norms and so for that many people will find it relatable, and I like that the writer has given Miles a new mentor in Misty and she is so awesome and her dynamic with Miles will be interesting to read about in future volumes, especially the division she works for and maybe even have her beau Sam show up! Haha all fun possibilites!

The art and coloring were the best part, its always so dynamic and has this sense of kinetic energy about it which most books don't have and I love this for it, and can't be more excited for the carnage story next!

this was a really great miles story!! It draws from the strengths of previous spider man stories while staying true to Miles’s character & being (mostly) original, with really unique and beautiful art.

i have a few bones to pick, such as the elements of the villains character (specifically her name and also her motivation was kinda contrived given the lengths she went to to achieve her goal lol 😭) and also with the use of miles cast. Like Tiana was aight BUT WHERE IS LANA??? She was such a great character in miles first series!! Maybe I have to read the previous run by Saladin Ahmed to understand where she went but like I loved her dynamic with miles 😭😭😭 that being said I did like the inclusion of misty knight as a character, despite not really knowing who she was prior to this book lol. I’m excited for Miles’s detective arc idk.

Speaking of his arc, I really liked the way his character was dealt with here; miles is sometimes (unjustly so) criticized for not having a personality, but this book was the perfect example of who is, he was sooooo in character and being his usual relatable self.

Basically, this book (despite its flaws) was a great mix of everything I like about miles and spider stories bundled up in a new and interesting way, and I’m very excited to read the rest of the series!!!

Can it be? Did they ditch the recent costume that looked like a jumpsuit and muffler and go back to his classic.

Thank GOD!

Other than that, we have more of what has made the Miles Morales series great...a strong, approachable characterization of their cast and a kinetic art style that keeps you going. It's also big help to bring on another New York teen as an antagonist to Miles. Something that's beyond his traditional rogues gallery. Rabble could be an interesting anti-hero if they choose to push her in that direction. They already redeemed Starling. Imagine the Champions updated with a group trying to help the underprivileged.

I'm getting ahead of myself.

Read this. It's a good, solid Miles story and rights some previous wrongs done to the character.

Bonus: Who wants a Spider-Woman / Miles team up as detectives (bounty hunters)?
Bonus Bonus: Rabble is like the Tinkerer mixed with Cypher of the X-Men?

Really promising start. The art is solid, the dialog is generally very believable, and the new villain is really feels tailored to Miles. In addition to a brand new nemesis, Miles is just generally going through it. He's stretched thin, and it's affecting his relationships. Yeah, it's a very well-worn superhero trope, but what makes the premise deliver to me is just how authentic those relationships feel. I was surprised when Misty Knight showed up, and that it seems like she'll be an ongoing presence. It's a good surprise. Misty is a wonderful and underused character, and her interactions with Miles are fun to read. She'll be a good mentor for him, provided she really does stick around. Sad that it looks like this book is going to get immediately interrupted by yet another symbiote event, but it is what it is.

Nothing super revelatory in Ziglar’s new run but this version of Miles is starting to feel very similar to the one from the PS video games. Instead of Phin as Tinkerer, we get Raneem as Rabble. I actually dug this interpretation of the character though the suddenness of her being an archenemy of Miles feels rushed. I also love that we’re getting a Jordanian character that has a complicated, arguably sympathetic backstory, but the choice to have her narrative (for now?) end in an apparent suicide explosion feels…not the best for lots of reasons, narrative and representationally? I also feel like in my limited time reading Miles, the rate at which is family and friends become fodder for his rogues is getting WAY overused. I think just keeping it to Tiana while make his involvement with Raneem clearly NOT at all romantic could actually be a lot more thematically engaging.

I jumped into this series in the middle of “Carnage Reigns,” so naturally I had to go back and check out the first volume. There’s plenty to like, but overall I just found this okay. I can appreciate that Rabble has ties that go all the way back to Miles’s origin in a way that makes total sense, but I found her pretty one note and boring. She just comes off as a whiny complainer, and I understand that’s probably what Cody Ziglar was going for, but it still doesn’t make her a compelling character. My biggest takeaway from this and this run as a whole so far is how well Miles is able to gel with other characters. It doesn’t matter if it’s his friends, his family, his superhero peers, or even his villains, he has great chemistry with all of them.

Anything was going to be difficult to live up to the great run by Saladin Ahmed but this did a solid job of being true to what was created there while also building from it. I like that Miles still is conflicted after the clones, and death and struggles. I also really enjoyed the pair up with Misty Knight. Like Miles said, it’s rare to see two black superheroes work together. I didn’t feel as good about the villain; her motivations were so specific and so skewed in focusing on Miles.
I think it will be interesting to see where this run goes next.

I was glad to see Miles back in his old suit. I hated the one from the last series with the stupid turtleneck look that didn't cover his face. The villain seemed kind of stupid. She hated Miles because he won a random lottery along with a bunch of other kids and she didn't. I also didn't like how she knew all about who he was without any explanation.

I know a lot of people like the art but I can't stand it. It was so chaotic I couldn't tell what was going on half the time. Sure it gave it some kinetic energy but at the expense of the story telling.

Pretty strong new start to a new creative team. Miles is back in a practical suit again. The villain is pretty good, though her motivations are a bit shaky--why target Miles when she could have targeted pretty much anyone involved in that school lottery? Nice to have Misty Knight on-hand and promising to help Miles develop his detective skills. The art is something of a mixed bag--a lot of the action scenes are pretty chaotic and hard to make sense of, but the slower moments aren't bad.

It really took a new author to validate how grossly mediocre the previous (looooong) run by Saladin Ahmed is. I mean, this is more superhero silliness, but Cody Ziglar remembers that Miles has a supporting cost and does a much better job of weaving them into the story.

As for the villain? Ziglar is pretty heavy handed in his whole "take away an opportunity from someone to give it to someone else", but the villain isn't bad for a high-school Spider-Man, and it's got some real-world resonance.
