Some strategies in this book are helpful; others I found to be the same thing any self-help guru would say to any average Joe. First of all, there are 25 strategies for a "magical college life" in this book, and you'd have to be Mother Teresa to implement them all in your life. I am particularly offended by the one where he suggests that you always look presentable. Ladies, wearing make-up to go the grocery store is insane. People will not love you in college if you are always on - they will envy you and be intimidated by you. Worst of all, they will believe you to be a fake! But people will trust and respect you if they are able to see the cracks once in a while. They will see that you are human and the occasional fuck-up and hey, THAT'S OKAY!!

He did have a chapter on "monkey-traps" I found useful, as well as his advice for creating a budget. But I think it's so important to remember when reading a book like this that you ARE allowed to have fun in college. Maybe you should study for that test or write the paper BEFORE the due date. But then, what if a cute guy invites you to a once-a-year party??? You should absolutely not miss out on life just to be above all the "normal" college students. I am heading to ODU in the fall, and I fully expect a normal college experience. Late nights, sure, but late nights also spent with guys and friends and trips to the beach. I missed out on so much when I was too down in the dumps to be much company to anyone, and I refuse to do it again. So here are my tips for a "magical" college life: have some sort of fashion sense before you go, be unique (always!), study hard but don't wear blinders and, yes, avoid monkey traps and create a budget.
