Miss Daisy

Rate this book
It was the forty-second year she had taught fourth grade, and the A's through GR's were thinking that Miss Daisy had probably seen her better days. A mouse entered the classroom through an open door while the frail figure of a teacher stood before her desk on the first day of school. Her new class thought they were about to see the old woman wither or worse. What followed, however, convinced them that this would not be an ordinary year in elementary school.

We have listened to most of the Donald Davis audio books available at our library. I like them because they are interesting to me and to Jay and the children. They are short, which makes them easy for car rides. These are good old-fashioned humorous stories about growing up. Donald Davis is a great story teller, and the material is clean.

Had this not been an audio book, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. The author, Donald Davis, tells these two short stories as though he was relating them to his grandchildren, making them truely come alive.

Listening to this heart warming, and at times heart wrenching, book while riding my bicycle along a lovely creek, alternately had me laughing and crying. I found myself sighing deeply and wishing it would go on and on.

A fun collection short stories of one boy's experience growing up in the south, and the caregivers and teachers that molded his youth.

The Miss Daisy story is stunning. I didn't catch the full meaning of the end until I heard it a second time.
