Are you hungry for a more intimate relationship with God?
It seems the more we pack into our lives, the less we experience of our lives. We've become modern-day Marthas, as, busy, distracted, and empty, instead of like her sister Mary, calm, focused, and fulfilled.
How do we, like Mary, create "pauses" in our days and weeks to hear what the Savior has to say to us? How do we make time for the things that ultimately matter? How can we become more spiritually sensitive to the everyday moments of life?
Acclaimed writer Ken Gire unlocks the door to change by introducing us not to a trendy new method, but to a centuries- old tradition-reflective living.
In the cornerstone book of this new series, you
Discover this rich heritage that stretches from David, Solomon, and Jesus Himself to Augustine, Brother Lawrence, and Mother Teresa.

A full-time writer and speaker, Ken is the founder of Reflective Living, a nonprofit ministry devoted to helping people learn how to slow down and live more reflective lives so they can experience life more deeply, especially life with God and other people. Ken is a graduate of Texas Christian University and Dallas Theological Seminary. He has four children and three grandchildren and lives near the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in Monument, Colorado.
As a bestselling author, Ken speaks primarily on the subjects in the books he has written. In the past, he has spoken at such venues as Bill and Gloria Gaither's Praise Gathering, Billy Graham's Training Center---the Cove, Laity Lodge, Wind River Ranch, Young Life, as well as a variety of denominational and non-denominational churches. He has spoken in the church service itself but has mostly done church retreats. He is available to speak for large, public events as the keynote speaker or for smaller, more private events, such as leadership retreats. In all of his talks, Ken uses a variety of audio-visuals, such as film clips, and so the host would need to have the necessary equipment and someone to operate it. His messages can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the venue. Since most of his speaking topics are from the books Ken has written, you can get a greater feel for his talks by first getting the book from Amazon.com, which carries both his in-print and out-of-print books.
My father was a Methodist pastor for nearly 40 years and was extremely prolific and well-read. In the final 18 months of his life he discovered Ken Gire's beautiful and compelling books- and this was among his favorites. I have read several books on this subject over the past year or so but this book in particular has made me stop and reexamine my life and has kindled in me a desire to deliberately lead a life of discernment - looking for God's presence in even the most mundane things. It has also - I'm happy to say - helped me to move beyond a very bitter election season and to concentrate instead on the beauty in this world. It's my understanding that this book is now out of print but like so many other good books that are it is worth looking for from third-party sellers and collectors. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Slowing down…structuring pause. Read the moment. Reflect the moment. Respond to the moment.
“Living reflectively provides opportunities during our day for a closer look at things, at people, at ourselves, and at God. The faster the pace of our life, though, the more we will miss those opportunities.”
One of my favorite non fiction reads of the year. Ken Gire is so gifted with his words. His storytelling is wonderful. I really gained a lot from this practice of reflective thinking and journalling through the gifts of life given by God.
In "The Reflective Life," author, Ken Gire, encourages the reader to pay attention to life: to what we read (novels and literature), what we watch (movies), and what we hear (music). In all these things, there are messages, if we only stop long enough to read them. I very much like the idea of living more attuned to the things my senses take in whether consciously or unconsciously, but the book was written a little. Melodramatically. For. My. Tastes. He overemphasized points by his writing style (such as the preceding chopped-up sentence) that really didn't need to be emphasized at all in my opinion, waxed eloquent a few too many times, and used too much flowery language. It seemed as if he had an over-abundance of time to write but not quite enough material to make the book as long as he wanted it to be; but after all is said and done, I'd like to live a more reflective life, so the book did its job.
Using examples of everyday life, Ken Gire draws you into a place of true reflection. You will find yourself putting it down, looking up and going...hmmmmmmm
