Pucking on Thin Ice

Rate this book
My dad warned his entire college hockey team about dating me.
Lucky for him, his team captain made an enemy out of me weeks before he knew I was the coach’s daughter.

Mason Wood’s stunning good looks could melt the ice he stands on.
But his ability to be a complete jerk is equally impressive.

College life was going just fine until fate played its wicked game.
The very beast who threatened my happiness swooped in to my rescue, and now…
I can’t seem to get him off my mind.

With my family still in turmoil after losing my twin brother, the last thing I want to do is upset my father.

As for Mason, all he ever wanted was to go pro, and he can’t do that without his coach.

But rumor has it… he’s fallen for the coach’s daughter, and let’s just say…
he’s pucking on thin ice .

The writing, characters, dialogue. Bad, Bad, and Worse.

I would have stopped in first chapter but wanted to give it a fair chance. DNF @ 15%

I have read a few romance novels with hockey players. This book was a little different than those as it was less about the hockey game itself or the smut but Silas used the book to develop the characters and have a good solid storyline. Santana is sassy and quick witted. I loved the banter between her and Mason. It was funny because growing up, and now with kids who play hockey, hockey players really are known for behaving in a certain way. She was able to capture it really well. It was also nice to read a book where it wasn't a girl who meets the hockey player and falls into bed with him right away. The hurdles that they have to face, each of them have their own, are real life obstacles. This made the book actually relatable. Will be looking for other books by Ashlie Silas

Mason and Santana do not know that they are inevitable and when they do realize it, they try to fight it. They each have barriers to get through. It doesn’t help that Santana’s dad is Mason’s coach at their university. Both are afraid to let anyone in.
I enjoyed this book so much that I read when I should have been sleeping. This author is fairly new to me but I have enjoyed everything that I have read from her. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!.

started off strong…

This book started off strong. I was so happy to finally see a FMC with something of a spine, but that quickly dissolved into nothing, only for her to lash out for no reason. The MMC was too realistically terrible. I don’t read romance books to read about men who remind me of every just terrible male that exists in real life. This one was just too realistically awful.

I don't even want to give this book 1 star, cause it's just doing injustice to the other books I read.

Wow, I was expecting to like this more than I did.

At first I was expecting Midnight Kisses vibes. Since she's the coach's daughter, and she lost a brother. I didn't like the main characters of that book, yet I would pick it over this one.

❗SPOILERS❗

What was the point of Santana dating Nick. You're telling me I'm meant to root for her when she's dating Mason's best friend. I can understand her being confused and agreeing to one date. She went on multiple dates with Nick and led him on. She lied to his face and said nothing was happening between her and Mason. Mason is also at fault for lying to his friend from childhood.

Then there was the whole Celia drama. She was a nuisance. I mean who in their right mind locks up another person in a closet. Her pinning over Mason for years was whack.

Mason was a huge douchebag. He repeatedly said some hurtful things to Santana. I don't care if he apologized. He kept doing it, and I'm meant to gloss over his terrible attitude.

Santana really was a mess. She went through it and never had the emotional support she needed.

I just didn't care to root for this pair.

Also the fact that Santana's parent got back together was random.

Santana is in college. Her roommate Sierra wants her to go to the Wolverines hockey game with her. Sierra is obsessed with getting an invitation to one of the exclusive hockey parties. Sierra bribes Santana with tickets to see the play Moulin Rouge. Santana secretly loves hockey but it brings up bad memories for her.

Mason Woods is the captain and star player on the hockey team. He gets thrown out of the game. He is by the locker room and Santana runs into him while looking for the bathroom. Mason accuses Santana of being a puck bunny. Then they bump into each other again this time literally at the coffee shop. Santana spills coffee on Mason so she offers him the handkerchief from her backpack but now he won’t give it back. Santana is mad because it means a lot to her.

What happens when Mason finds out who Santana’s father is? Can the two of them get past annoying each other and become friends or more?.

The characters felt like caricatures, like they were imitating what a hockey star and the coach's daughter were supposed to be like. They felt inauthentic, so I never felt a connection between them. The dialogue was also a little cringey, which, yeah, it can be in romance novels, but this was extra cringe drizzled with ugh.

I also really hated Mason when he took her handkerchief. That isn't something people commonly use nowadays so it clearly means something to her, but he's being a jerk about returning it when she was being kind in offering it to him in the first place.

Side note: why is it that generally if the guy's dad is a coach of a sport, he ends up playing the sport, but if a girl's dad is one, she ends up disliking it? Guys can want to be something other than players and girls can love the sport, too. And I hate it when the dad warns men off his daughter, like she has no romantic autonomy.

The feels were so intense with this story. There was the hot guy who was so shallow you know the girl was never gonna go for him. You had the good guy who you know wasn't going to get the girl. The moody broody hot guy who had chemistry with the girl. Of course on Santana's side was the great roommate. Santana is hot and athletic and smart....and the coach's daughter. Mason and Santana are drawn to each other but he keeps pushing her away. It is a great read to see how these two navigate the tension and relationship pitfalls.

Mason is broody and grumpy, and is focused on a profession hockey career, and he is team captain of a college team. Santana is the coach’s daughter, and her and Mason do not have the best of meetings. The coach has warned all the team that his daughter of off limits, and after the loss of her twin brother, Santana does not want to upset her dad. This is a well written story which has family, friendships, undeniable chemistry, humor, witty banter, emotions, loss, healing, and love, which leads to an entertaining sports romance.

This one just didn't flow right. The story felt rushed with more focus on Santana's sadness. I get that we needed it to know her, but I felt that most of her conversations with Mason after a certain point became about her past than about their relationship. The character development didn't work for me and I felt like the characters were a bit too immature. I know they are college aged characters, but still... I also CANNOT STAND when the MC pushes so hard that the FC just gives in to keep peace. There wasn't a lot of that in here, but there were a few comments by Mason that gave me that icky feeling like he was trying to wear her down.

Look, this started out really strong for me but quickly went down hill. The beginning was giving really good enemies to lovers vibes but then they got together and unfortunately I just got the ick🤷🏻‍♀️. The dialogue was kind of lackluster for me and some of the things these characters were saying was just insane and did low-key make me cringe. I will say this is a very quick read and it was entertaining at the beginning but it just slowly got less gripping towards the end for me. If this sounds like something you would enjoy then I recommend checking it out but for me personally this just wasn’t my cup of tea🫤

I thought this was a very cute romance. Santana and Mason seem to hate each other from the start since they seem to do nothing but insult one another. Yet they both feel a tug of desire and a need to be with each other. These two will need to figure out what they want, and if it is with each other. I liked them as a couple as heir banter back and forth kept making me giggle. I found this book fun and enjoyable to read.

Ashlie Silas 5 star awesomeness

Ashlie Silas you have absolutely nailed it with Mason & Santana's story. The way you wrote the story had me completely hooked from the very first page & I couldn't put the book down until I had finished their story. If you are a lover of hockey romance with a fantastic storyline then I highly recommend giving their story a read.
I look forward to the author's next book.

So when their attraction and feelings for each other can't be resisted anymore, they collide and find their happily ever after.

Santana is talked into going to a hockey game by her college roommate, Sierra. At the arena, Santana needs to use the facilities and, not knowing where to go, ends up outside the locker room when Mason, the home team captain, comes out of the locker room. And so the squabbles begin. This story is sad in places, and funny in places, with plenty of romance and steam, ending in a HEA. Very highly recommended.

I have been in a huge sports romance phase lately and this one did not disappoint at all. I have found that the hockey romances are quickly becoming my favorites. I love the characters and the explosive energy between Mason and Santana. I did wish that the story would of been a little longer but all in all it was great. I can't wait to read more by Ashlie in the future.

The coach has warned Mason and the whole hockey team not to go near Santana. However, Mason and Santana have a couple of interactions that are unpleasant and send sparks flying. The banter between these two are so lively. All of this fighting leads them to be enemies that are very attracted to each other but because of who they are they cannot act on their feelings. How will these two turn their relationship around?

This wasn’t my favorite book, but I appreciate that there wasn’t a breakup at the end of the book. The dialogue was certainly cheesy and it felt kind of rushed. It was mentioned once in passing that Santana liked slam poetry, then the book ended with that being her career. I don’t know if maybe that was just added as an afterthought, but it seems like their relationship was the only focus of the story.

The writing got worse as the story continued. I dont know, but it seems like the rip-off version of The Off-Campus series by Elle Kennedy.

In one scene, there was a drug abuse, and the H blamed h for letting the Coach know. On the next page, it was revealed that the h was not to be blamed. There was no suspense, no buildup whatsoever.

Skimmed the pages after 60% as it feels like blah blah blah to me. And I was happy I did it because there was nothing original going on.

The author has given us a heartwarming story that pulls us into the lives of Santana and Mason, two college students, and her dad/his coach. The story keeps us turning the pages with connection, denial, familial expectations and steam.

Gosh this was awful. The dialogue was terrible, the characters were flat, the plot was bare minimum. I read the whole thing waiting for improvement I guess but nope, disappointing until the very end.
The epilogue? Seriously? She’s barely scraping 23, just barely graduated and already married and pregnant? Gross.
