On a frigid December evening, fate brings them together once more as they share a subway commute to New Jersey. Their chance encounter ignites long-forgotten sparks, tempting them with the possibility of rekindling their love. As the train hurtles through the night, the electric tension between them rekindles, and they're forced to confront their lingering love for one another. Is this a second chance at love or a final goodbye?

Can you give a book 6 stars? Fine, I’ll settle for the socially acceptable five!
What a phenomenal love story! I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Traversing true love is never easy but somehow Harper and Wyatt make it completely enjoyable in every aspect from the low dips on the roller coaster of life to the happiest moments that we feel with them. And indie author, Brian Price manages to entertain us with phenomenal dialogue, as well as telling a story that feels so real. Every aspect is well conceived from the little idiosyncrasies of some of the characters to some deeper themes burning below the surface, steeped in childhood trauma. If you’re anything like me, this book will make you laugh until you have hiccups and cry on occasion. Twice, I even put my reading material away, turned off the lights only to turn them on five minutes later, and read one more chapter. Only really great books are compelling in this way for me. Highly recommend—⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In Price’s sophomore novel, both a prequel and follow up to Last Chance California, he explores the topic of a path not taken. Wyatt runs into Harper on a subway ride home, and the story catapults the reader between their initial meet and subsequent relationship, and their conversation on the train. Their volatile, relationship is fueled by a secret past, alcohol, and the college experience. Price voices both Wyatt & Harper’s characters, allowing the reader an insight to both of their minds. Harper tugs on the reader’s heart strings, while Wyatt makes the reader want to shake some sense into him.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the novel is the dark, hidden secrets that emerge throughout the story. Secrets that Wyatt has not only hidden from Harper, but from his subconscious. The ending, of course, might surprise some readers - but it’s not your average romance story.
It was interesting to read about Wyatt’s story before Last Chance California. His personality didn’t change much between the stories, but it does give the readers a bit more backstory. Price doesn’t shy away from topics that aren’t necessarily covered in the romance genre, but his ability to convey the messiness that is real life is a strength in his writing.
3.75 stars. I personally didn’t relate much to either character, but I always enjoy reading outside my usual genre. I’d recommend this book to those who don’t want an average love story, or those reminiscing on the “what if’s” from their first relationship.
Chapters that keep you captivated, on the edge of your seat waiting to see how the relationship progresses. The main character is a perfect mixture of Holden (The Catcher in the Rye), Jake and Robert (The Sun Also Rises). This book shows the up's and down's of everyday life in relationships, the drama of family that goes into these relationships, and how a person changes after everything ends.
A truly remarkable book I plan on recommending to everyone!
I LOVED this unique love story. The realness of both Harper and Wyatt was so relatable that it was heartbreaking. It was a story of young love, growing up, and growing apart. Sometimes life doesn't have the endings that we wanted them to have, and I think ultimately this book demonstrates that.
If you've ever been young and in love, wondered "what if," or like the Katy Perry song, The One That Got Away then this is the book for you.
