The churning waters of uncertainty lap at the foundations of hastily-formed alliances in Days of Destruction Book 5.
Tired of the same old apocalyptic storylines? Welcome to your new addiction.
The best-selling post-apocalyptic authors Mike Kraus and Stephanie Mylchreest bring a new gripping tale of destruction, survival and humanity like no one else can.
When Russia decides to test an underground nuclear weapon far deeper than ever before, the world watches with bated breath for it to fizzle out.
Instead, the massive underground explosion triggers a cascade of earthquakes that sweep across the world, killing hundreds of millions as the Eurasian Plate is split in twain.
A consultant on the project, Johannes, flown over from his home in Texas, barely manages to get to safety and is faced with a sickening realization: he has helped to destroy the world.
As he sets off on a journey to save his wife and the rest of his family, other survivors of the disaster band together, finding that what unites them in the face of destruction is far more powerful than what sets them apart.
Passionate about reading and writing for as long as she can remember, Stephanie was inspired to create her own literary worlds by the books she has lost herself in over the years (some of her favorites include: the Harry Potter series, The Road, 1984, Wool and Station Eleven).
Stephanie writes speculative fiction in the wee hours of the night after her children have gone to sleep. She particularly loves writing stories about characters who find themselves in unusual or challenging situations, and exploring how they deal with the fallout.
Having lived on several different continents over the last ten years, Stephanie is also an avid traveler. She married her British husband in Las Vegas with Elvis as celebrant, which was just as fun as you would imagine.
The post apocalyptic survival efforts continue with increased earthquakes in a monochrome world covered in ash from Yellowstone. As Mattie and his crew arrive at his parents' home, Tapio and Johannes have already left to meet a doctor to obtain medication for Benny. The giant earthquake finally collapses the house they felt would stand just in time for another attack by the Vanders & Ulhrich. Erin learns that Kimmy, and not George was the 1 who killed her son & that she then kidnaps a severely ill Noah. As Tapio & Johannes fight to save the traveling doctor, Tapio is injured & they barely arrive home before he dies. Mattie still doesn't trust Johannes, the group must decide on how to face the future knowing that Kimmy is still plotting revenge, as the rest continue to search for Noah.
Erin, hanging onto her family’s destroyed home-place as though it is the only place she can live forever more makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me. Given the loss of so many lives, the continuing earthquakes, the lack of clean, freshwater, the need for a safe place for her grandchildren. To cling to a past, which is clearly, definitively gone, to the detriment of her family, is a hugely selfish decision. Especially when her son CAN pilot them away to Australia, where the effects of shifting tectonic plates is greatly diminished in comparison. Now, the true murderer of Kalevi has been revealed, only one person stands in their way, still committing acts of evil. Matti & Johann need to forgive one another, Noah needs to understand the position his father Elijah & Matti put Johann in, & why the two ultimately confessed, did the jail time.
I cannot believe that we are at book five of this incredible apocalyptic series already. Our characters continue to find their way through some catastrophic and unbelievable times and push through the hardship and heartache that they have had to endure and their stories are incredible. The world building continues to draw you in and hold on tight as we once again join these remarkable people on their journey of survival. Twists and turns are thrown their way and had me on the edge of my seat hoping against hope that it ends well and they find what they are all looking for. It’s an exciting, thrilling and incredibly intense build up to the finale that I am very anxious to read!
Thank you for the recap of the previous books. This both moves the story along with some long awaited resolution of plot and stalls a bit where the Virtanen family is so continuously mired down in the past. They simply cannot resolve any of it really. I was disappointed in Matti and Lilly's group on the road that they were so easily overcome by a lone woman and her young (but duplicitous) daughter and lose all of their supplies and weapons. Just so lame. And Erin has arch nemesis, George Vander, dead in her sights and decide to do fisticuffs? Those bits of silliness aside, it was overall a good story, written and edited well and ends with a big cliffhanger.
Harder and harder. The earthquakes continue, frequently. There is even a massive eruption that spreads ash over a massive area, blocking the sun and killing off many crops, gardens and trees. This review is for books 4 & 5. There are so many twists, mostly horrific, that is amazing There are survivors at all. And of course, the bad guys seem to lose their minds and become like spawns of the devil. Just one more book, and I do hope most of our good folks survive this planet destroying catastrophe.
