All journeys must come to an end - some happier than others - in Days of Destruction Book 6.
Tired of the same old apocalyptic storylines? Welcome to your new addiction.
The best-selling post-apocalyptic authors Mike Kraus and Stephanie Mylchreest bring a new gripping tale of destruction, survival and humanity like no one else can.
When Russia decides to test an underground nuclear weapon far deeper than ever before, the world watches with bated breath for it to fizzle out.
Instead, the massive underground explosion triggers a cascade of earthquakes that sweep across the world, killing hundreds of millions as the Eurasian Plate is split in twain.
A consultant on the project, Johannes, flown over from his home in Texas, barely manages to get to safety and is faced with a sickening realization: he has helped to destroy the world.
As he sets off on a journey to save his wife and the rest of his family, other survivors of the disaster band together, finding that what unites them in the face of destruction is far more powerful than what sets them apart.
Passionate about reading and writing for as long as she can remember, Stephanie was inspired to create her own literary worlds by the books she has lost herself in over the years (some of her favorites include: the Harry Potter series, The Road, 1984, Wool and Station Eleven).
Stephanie writes speculative fiction in the wee hours of the night after her children have gone to sleep. She particularly loves writing stories about characters who find themselves in unusual or challenging situations, and exploring how they deal with the fallout.
Having lived on several different continents over the last ten years, Stephanie is also an avid traveler. She married her British husband in Las Vegas with Elvis as celebrant, which was just as fun as you would imagine.
This is the final book in this original series. It's a story of family in its' many forms, of great love & commitment, of hope and faith, and of bitterness, hatred, & evil. It's an interesting & slightly horrifying story of how greed unchecked, for power more than money, can destroy individuals and even worlds. It's also the story of how community, faith, & hope can stand against all odds. It's a story of how forgiveness can overcome all grief & heartbreak. The characters are all pretty much relatable, especially when one asks (as we all should do) "How would I act in this situation, given the same circumstances. Would I be able to forgive the woman who killed the love of my life? Could I cook for someone who had betrayed us? Could I save the life of the person who poisoned my entire family? Does everyone deserve a second chance? How can you read the true regret of the prodigal son? Horrid pictures of the devastation of our planet, the loss of our modern conveniences, life without any law enforcement or guidance from a centralized state. Yet, there's a sense of hope in the basic goodness of most people, A strong sense that in spite of everything, life continues.
It's the end of the road in Book 6 of the epic Days of Destruction series by Stephanie Mylchreest and Mike Kraus, a riveting post-Apocalyptic survival epic that starts on Day 30 after the iconoclastic initial explosion. Amidst the ensuing earthquakes and other weather extremes, Johannes and his estranged brother, their mother Lilly, and fellow survivors return to bury their fallen father next to their sibling. Another brother, Noah, is missing and possibly also dead, which causes great strain and dissension. That's encouraged by Christopher, who makes no secret of his resentment of Johannes acting as leader. Who is Kimmy? What's happened to Noah?
A sensational conclusion and resolution for mankind and the very Earth itself, sees death and danger at every turn. Interesting story line, but the author had the characters make so many stupid mistakes. For example, while a group traveled they were held up by one person with a gun. One of the group jumped the gun holder while the others just stood there and the person got the gun back and took all their stuff. Also, description of character thought was to long for no purpose. Like 6 pages in the middle of action scenes. Noah is scared of his stepfather blah, blah or Erin misses family members and isn't nature pretty, yada yada. No need for that much meaningless detail.
This has generally been a decent series, but was getting too repetitive in the story. Since the Virtanen family steadfastly refused to actually deal with their tough issues, they (and we) were doomed to rehash them over and over and over. There was also persistent flashbacks to the past, some of which added little to the story. Some actions seemed rather stupid, most particularly when Erin is fighting with Kimmy for her life as well as that of Bella and Otto, and some internal epiphany causes her to stop, turn and let Kimmy grab her gun. Ugh. Kimmy’s outcome was a bit too symbolic. The positive end was decent.
This has been one hell of a journey. Gripping, harrowing and full of devastation as we have followed our characters on their journeys of survival. The characters are relatable and have been through so much but despite everything they still have hope and some faith left. The authors have had me hooked since book one and the world building has been descriptive and devastating and once picked up I could not stop reading. Exciting, thrilling, intense, this catastrophic event has changed the lives of many and this finale is simply epic and brings everything together and shows that life can go on, that we can go on.
Some things just didn't make sense. Too many stupid mistakes like firing warning shots after someone attacked you? Tried to kill you? Turning your back on a person you were just fighting to the death, and leaving a gun within their reach? Continue to run away when you have a gun and could set up an ambush? Matti and Johannes were really pretty whiny in a survival situation due to daddy issues. Some deaths of characters did not make sense either.
I kept reading this story through all of the books in the series because I could not believe how bad it is. The families are all dysfunctiol. There were way too many things standing in the way of all these people that were supposedly trying to endure this catastrophe it was like watching General Hospital. I ended up skipping five chapters at a time in the last few books just to get to the end and surprisingly I didn't miss that much of the story.
Despite continued earthquakes and insane bad guys, our family has prevailed. Their losses were vast, but their love and determination were even stronger. The end of this story was satisfying and reasonable. I am so glad to have read these books. I have been a fan of Mike Kraus and will look for more of his books to read. I am so glad they are available in kindle unlimited! Happy reading for everyone!
A really great sixth part to this exciting post apocalyptic thriller series! A really great idea, as always with these writers! Well written & well thought out plot as well as characters. There are some nasty moments in this series, with child death, so be warned if this is not your thing! High stress & tension, fast paced where needed! Over all a really excellent series!
Stephanie and Mike continue to write reward winning material in another book. I am really enjoying this story. They keep coming up with new twists in each chapter. I could stay up all night reading except I woulprobably starve to death!h
So... that was dumb. Everything gets destroyed except the plane. They decide to stay at a place with no water (which was a problem at first but later never got talked about any more).
Ugh I might come back and write more but this was just a very very unsatisfying book. At least they saved the dog.

Epicentre, days of destruction, Mike Kraus and Stephanie Mylchreest.
What an absolute finale. This book the final chapter, summed it all up perfectly. Fast paced, frightful, packed with action and emotion, the whole book has been written in such great depth and the whole thing has been so thoroughly detailed in such a great way to keep you going.
All I can say is unbelievable. Suspense, danger and secrets out there. Russia test’s nuclear and it’s the worse ever. Lives are lost, people have no where to go. One man was a part of this and realizes his mistake. Can he fix things. Intriguing all the way to the end.
So now I have come to the end. It was a good series. I enjoyed the characters and the circumstances they faced and the how everything worked out in the end.
