Thrilling does not even begin to describe the book. I've not heard of John Martel, but he is a gifted writer. The twist at the end is WONDERFUL but the whole book is engaging, filled with humor and a cast of characters who will keep you guessing.

An engaging read--started on a plane. Lot of plot, interesting on criminal trial procedure. Characters interesting but not compelling.

Looking for a new author with multiple books in a go-to genre, I selected this book and two that follows. I read the book and was not disappointed. Looking forward to the next one for comparison.

In defense of the author, I'm not a big fan of courtroom and lawyer dramas. I found to much small scale description and not enough excitement.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST-NR
Martel, John
Small-town lawyer Seth "Cowboy" Cameron dreams of a career in one of San Francisco's upper-class law firms. When he bluffs his way to a high-profile courtroom victory, he lands a job at prestigious Miller & McGrath. He also lands in the middle of a tug-of-war between M&M's young turks and firm dictator Anthony Treadwell, who uses the politically sensitive liability lawsuit of beautiful Elena Barton as an excuse to get Cameron fired. The same lawsuit proves Cameron's ticket to redemption, however, when Elena sues M&M for malpractice and gets Cameron to take the case.

Way tooooo slow; flat characters.

This is going to sound cheesy, and a quite childish review, but I appreciate the message that this novel imparts - or at least the message that got across to me. I'd like to think it shares the value of having ambition, yet being humble and flexible enough to graciously and gratefully accept whatever compromise the hand of fate will deal us with. I admit, at first, I hated Rosie with a burning passion, but as time wore on I realized she is indeed meant to be the 'better half' of irrational, irritable, yet highly intellectual Seth Cameron. I particularly love her line "It may not be too late for us, but I believe it's too soon."

On a final note, I would just like to say HA! SUCK IT, ELENA~

Not bad, but halfway through the side-stories get predictable. The main plot holds you in, but it would have helped had the rest of the book not been so obvious.

Decent legal thriller....bit long/drawn out in some parts but all in all a decent read.

I read 245 of the 449 pages. I was uninspired by the book and decided to stop reading as it was becoming a chore.
