Blair is a prisoner sentenced to die, but on the morning of her execution, she’s spared the noose by an unusual opportunity: pose as a decoy for the princess and learn which member of the court is the secret assassin after Her Highness's life. If she uncovers the truth before they strike, she'll receive a full pardon. But if she doesn't, she'll be forced to discover the threat at the cost of her life.
Despite the chance to avoid the gallows, Blair has no interest in helping the royal family…until she realizes that this will be an opportunity to complete the mission she was condemned to die for. But the task proves far more difficult than she anticipated when she finds herself entangled with a handsome and charming man—son of a prestigious dukedom by day, heir to the most infamous assassin house by night.
Luke's involvement with the intriguing princess is solely for the sake of his own mission, and despite the dangers of getting involved, Blair finds herself captivated by the infuriating lord beyond investigating him as her main suspect. Yet target and enemy quickly find themselves drawn to one another by more than the intrigue surrounding them. With the secrets they both keep, falling in love is far too risky…especially with an unknown assailant and a mysterious curse lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike.
Camille Peters was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah where she grew up surrounded by books. As a child, she spent every spare moment reading and writing her own stories on every scrap of paper she could find. Becoming an author was always more than a childhood dream; it was a certainty.
Her love of writing grew alongside her as she took local writing classes in her teens, spent a year studying Creative Writing at the English University of Northampton, and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in English and History. She’s now blessed to be a full-time author.
When she’s not writing she’s thinking about writing, and when’s she’s not thinking about writing she’s…alright, she’s always thinking about writing, but she can also be found reading, at the piano, playing board games with her family and friends, or taking long, bare-foot walks as she lives inside her imagination and brainstorms more tales.
I've been patiently waiting for Blair's story after reading book one and wanting to know all of the behind the scenes stuff from the first book. And let me tell you, it was well worth the wait! *Happy Sigh*
If you haven't read the first book, you can read this book as a standalone and not feel confused. It all makes perfect sense and flows really well. But if you've read the first book, Facade, you'll know from different things from that book that this one will slowly start to reveal. Ohhh, I loved how it all wove together!!!!
Blair and Luke were so fun to watch in their metaphorical dance. A step forward, a step backwards, to the side, twirl and spin, dip and lift, diagonal and come together. *smirks* I love a good dance between characters. You'll be very satisfied with these two. Lots of great banter that will keep you smiling, laughing, swooning and sighing. Let's just hope that they can figure everything out before they run out of time!
Another fabulous book from Camille Peters! Keep them coming please! I have loved all of the books I've read of hers (which is all but one)! I'm always left satisfied from reading her books!
Content: Clean. Some mild moments of peril and suspense. Some mystery and talk of death. Some kisses but nothing further. I'd share this with my young teens.
I received a copy from the author via StoryOrigin. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I think this might be my new favorite Camille Peters' book (knocking off Identity for the top spot)! This one is SO intense! Blair is condemned to death for treason, but she is given a way out. Pretend to be the princess and take the danger meant for her. If Blair gets killed by the assassin, it is no great loss to the kingdom. If she finds out who the assassin is before he kills her, then she'll get pardoned.
Of course, that assassin happens to be young, handsome, and rather cursed. And he isn't the only assassin after her.
Blair and Luke made for such a great pair! I stayed up until midnight to finish the book because I just plain couldn't put it down!
My one mild disappointment was the solution for Luke's curse was a bit...easy? Convenient? I'm not sure what other solution the author could have done, but it felt like a bit of a let down after the intensity of the rest of the book.
Still, I REALLY loved this book and I can't wait for more from this series!
Decoy was the first book I started writing for The Royal Chronicles before I decided to have it parallel my idea for Façade (which I’ve had for quite a while)...but it wouldn’t come together. Originally Luke was simply a prince Blair was investigating in her quest to secure her pardon, yet I kept hitting walls with that plot. After allowing it to simmer for a few years, I returned to it and learned Luke wasn’t a prince at all but an assassin...and not just any assassin, but one with a terrible secret (which rather surprised me; I love when that happens throughout the writing journey). As I wrote the story from that angle, I discovered the shadow curse alongside my characters and the rest of the story unfolded naturally as all the pieces of the plot fell into place.
This book was truly one of discovery for me and I had so much fun writing this book; in fact, it was my first book in some time that flowed as naturally as it did. I really felt the characters directing it and that I was just along for the ride. I hope you enjoy my take on a romance between a prisoner turned decoy princess and her assassin as much as I did in creating it.
After finishing Facade, I was really interested in Blair and Luke’s story! The plot of this book was intriging and there was plenty of action, secrets, and dangerous missions.
I really liked that this book jumped right into the action! It made the book feel fast-paced and things kept happening to add suspense to the story. My favorite part of the book was definitely the first half! The decoy princess, royal spies, secret identities, and dangerous main characters definitely made this book intriguing.
I will say, this book is a bit different than the other Camille Peters books I’ve read. It felt darker which in some ways I did expect. I ended up not really being a fan of the shadows or the details of Luke’s curse, (especially the part that involved blood.)There were moments that this book felt darker than I prefer and I think that tampered with my enjoyment of it. If you are used to darker fantasy, this probably won’t bother you at all but I gravitate towards fantasy that doesn’t get too dark.
I also had mixed feelings about the characters. At times I did like them but other times I didn’t like them as much. I think both of them were hardened and bitter from their past so sometimes they seemed to have a “I couldn’t care less”, selfish attitude. In some ways, they were both rather villainous characters which made them interesting but also made them unlikable at times. I do feel like they changed for the better in the end and I did like them for the most part, especially Luke. I also liked the moments when they showed their deeper emotions and expressed a desire for a better way of living.
I also felt like the romance escalated rather quickly which I wasn’t a big fan of, especially since the characters didn’t seem to know what they felt for each other until later on.
Overall, this was a fast-paced story with an original plot! While I didn’t like how dark it felt at times, I did find the decoy princess, secret identities, and royal spies part of the plot really interesting. If you like fantasy and don’t mind it get a bit darker with a plot that includes dangerous missions, curses, and and secrets, I think you’ll enjoy this one!
*Thank you to the author for sending me a complimentary copy! All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This was a great book! It's quite different from what the author has written previously, but that did nothing to quell my enjoyment. I really liked Blair from the beginning. I was intrigued by her past and her motivations. Her character was so fun. She is caring but I also loved seeing her fiery side (the side that wouldn't say no to a challenge hehe). I liked Luke as well. I was quite surprised at his personality. After Facade I had an entirely different vision of him in my mind but I liked what the author did with it. Seeing into his head fit the pieces together in a way that felt right. The relationship between them, although built upon secrets, developed well and naturally. Even with more action in this book, the romance is still the main plot.
One very small nitpick I have is that I wish we could have learned more about Blair's past earlier. I think it was right to withhold this information for a while, but I wish we didn't have it explained in the last chapter. Even though I really liked Blair, I felt like learning about this information earlier might have helped me understand her motivations a bit more. However, at the end of the day, Camille Peters did a fantastic job with this book! I would definitely recommend reading it! (I might read Facade first for more enjoyment but this can be read as a standalone).
CONTENT: Clean romance (that first kiss is so swoony! :)), a little violence and mention of blood, no language
I don't really like this book. It was okay for me.
My biggest problem is the ending where time travel was used. It just created a plot hole. I think it would've been better if they found another solution, instead of changing the past. Also, I don't really gets that it changed the past but not the present. I was really confused there because the past does change the present, and yeah, everything was mostly the same. The assassin house was still there, and his ancestors still continued killing people... I mean, they didn't change their mind and went to another profession because there is no deal with the shadows?? Uhh, I think some of them would've gotten sick of it and just stopped doing it.
Also, I don't know if I'm getting older or something, but sentences like "my heart shattered" or "where my heart used to be" are pretty weird for me. Most likely, it's just a me problem, but I don't really like it that much if authors use those kinds of stuff repeatedly in books.

I was excited to read this book and interested to see how it fit with the previous book. From the start, some of my expectations based on the previous book were turned on their head (in a good way). The main characters were even better than I expected. Throughout the book, the story had unexpected twists and turns.
I loved this story. I look forward to reading the next book, but I will also definitely be rereading this one.
For anyone wishing Gen from The Thief by Magan Whalen Turner or George from Tamora Pierce's Alana series could be the hero in a fantasy romance with swoony but sweet kisses with an equally skilled and fiery heroine, this is the book for you!
She is a prisoner turned decoy princess. He is the assassin tasked with her death. Sparks fly at their meeting. Will these enemies become unlikely allies? Or will they be consumed by shadows?
I'll admit to having a thing for delightfully saucy thieves in stories. But how could I forget about assassins? Luke puts on an overly confident facade but his deadly reputation as The Shadow isn't exactly what you'd expect. When tasked with killing the princess he knows his future hinges on completing the task, despite any personal struggles.
I quickly came to love Luke with his devil-may-care attitude and sweetheart inside. He is a skilled assassin who hates his profession, but is cursed to continue down this path he'd rather not walk.
Blair has been given a second chance at life but to do so she must serve the very royals who imprisoned her and who she blames for the loss of her family. Blair's background has hardened her and given her less than lady-like skills with a dagger. Except life as the decoy is more dangerous than she expected. When she discovers Luke is the assassin after her, sparks fly, along with plenty of banter.
However once they discover that Luke isn't the only one with an agenda to kill the princess they begin a dangerous game. A game that might cost them their hearts.
I adored Luke and Blair's, perseverance spunk, banter and so much more! I was taken on a delightful journey with intrigue, romance, and magic imbued with a whole breadth of emotion. I loved both their strength and vulnerability as they navigated seemingly impossible odds.
– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Blair & Luke’s points of view
– there are quite a few mentions of blood due to Luke’s work as an assassin & the shadows demanding blood for their cooperation (blood is not mentioned in a gorey way)
– Blair’s parents & brother were all hanged for treason (past events); Blair is almost to be hung for the same reasons (she never actually makes it to the noose, but still thinks about her impending death & how it will feel)
Review:
I loved Blair & Luke! They had such great banter and fight scenes between the two of them. I loved that Luke is an unexpected assassin in that he hasn’t actually killed anyone (not that anyone but his best friend knows this) & yet has to kill the princess. I loved that he actually had a bit of an aversion to killing making him even more unexpected. I loved Blair’s attempts to do as she was asked for her freedom, but she also would try to finish the mission she already had when she came to the castle on her own. I loved their rooftop, hidden away, & night meetings and the tension was always wonderful! I loved that they both (for a bit anyways) had their identities hidden from each other making them second guess their assumptions. I also loved the few scenes that crossed over with the first book as we got to see inside Blair & Luke’s heads while they went through them.
Summary:
Blair was going to be hung come morning…until she wasn’t. Upon leaving her cell, Blair’s life is placed in her own hands once again for a price. In order to be pardoned for her crimes & no longer condemned to die, Blair must step in, pretend to be the princess, and discover the identity behind the threat to the real princess’s life. Despite her disgust for the royal family, Blair has no other choice but to accept. But when given the opportunity, she’ll take advantage of her position to finish the mission that originally brought Blair to the palace. Now if only she could get the mysterious & oddly conversational assassin out of her hair…
Luke is the heir to a dukedom…and the dukedom’s assassin house. As the heir, it is expected that Luke can not only take over the mantle of the Shadow but that he also has the skills and kills to back it up. Though he does have the skills, every one of the kills to his name he can’t claim. Because he never actually killed anyone. Not that anyone outside of his best friend knows that… But when Luke is given a mission to kill the princess, he has to step up. No longer can he just lurk in the shadows of his mantle, he must take action. Or everything could fall apart…
Ever since reading Facade, I have been eagerly anticipating Decoy. This time, we learn what was going on in the palace while Evelyn was gone. The book also wraps up the assassination prophecy, so while it runs simulatenously to Facade, it also continues the story to its conclusion. The chemistry between the two leads feels natural. Lord Luke and Blair are well-balanced. They have a game going with secrets about their true identities going for most of the book. This gives a humorous streak to the book while maintaining the high stakes necessary to retain readers' interest. There was one moment, in their flirtation game where Luke wants to stop but his wishes are ignored; that isn't great, so i would recommend against such moments in future books. Nonetheless, the action is fairly small for books containing romance (merely a kiss), and it's the only moment like that in the book. Therefore, I don't think it seriously detracts from the enjoyment of the story. Luke is given a unique background which explains one small moment in Facade. Blair's story and journey is no less interesting. It is rare when both main characters feel equally well-rounded and like I can invest in both of them. I love how the author is able to weave together complex worlds and make seemingly small moments matter later. I would highly recommend this book, particularly after Facade though it could be read alone. I also found out this wasn't going to be a two book series and will have at least one more, so I am very excited to see the conclusion of what began in Facade in the Kingdom of Brimoire.
*I received an ARC with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are my own.*
Oh wow, what a delightful reading adventure! I think this was my first romance featuring an assassin and his target but it won't be my last. This is definitely my new favorite book by Camille Peters. It feels different from her other books but is still written in her beautiful and engaging writing style with a fairytale feel.
I adored the characters from the very first page. I felt such sympathy for the circumstances of our heroine facing the end of her life and became thoroughly engaged in her plight to overcome her past and navigate the dangers to earn her freedom. The assassin Luke surprised me in all the best ways and immediately fell for his charm. The romance between Blair and Luke contained the perfect balance of intrigue, sweetness, and delightful banter.
The romance definitely carried the book, but the plot was just as enjoyable. I couldn't stop reading about Blair and Luke first as "enemies" drawn to one another despite their contrasting missions, then as tentative allies as together they investigated the mysteries, secrets, and intrigue at the palace, all while falling in love. The entire experience was wonderful and I enjoyed every moment of it. This is definitely a book I'll reread, and I can't wait for the continuation of this fun series!
Façade was our first look into morally grey main characters but Decoy explored this concept even further with two wonderfully flawed humans.
Blair had such strength and intelligence, which she needed to have given her past. Yet she rarely judges people, instead slowly working to peel back the layers to discover the truth. Her pride and obsession with the past can get her into trouble but she always works to rectify her mistakes. She cares about the lives of others, even if she may not especially like the person themself.
Luke is such an adorable character (weird way to describe an assassin I know) there are so many layers to him to discover. He has such a caring soul but his devotion to his family and his constant need for his father's approval can lead him to hide this fact.
They were a perfect match, both when it came to their games of wiles and when they helped each other find the glimpses of light in their seemingly hopeless situations.
I loved getting to learn more about the other kingdoms that occupy this world and being able to meet some of the royalty that we didn't get to see in the previous book.
I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series.
This was a 4.5 star read. I was instatly hooked by the story and absolutely loved it more than the first book. As, I was reading this book, I noticed that unlike Evelyn from the first book, the main character blair had more layers to her charater which made her more interesting to read. This allowed for me to route for her constantly. Also, the banter between Blair and Luke were funny and entertaining. I looved both of their charater growths throughout the book. Blair goes from wanting revenge to acceptance and forgiveness while luke goes from having no hope hoe wanting a better future for himself to fighting for one.
The reason why this is not a 5 Star read is due to the big plot hole towards the end of the book that reaulted in to many questions instead of answers.
*Spoiler* Blair using the time sphere to change the bargain Luke struck with the King about his shadow ability should have caused the entire trajectory of Luke's life to change. However, Peters seems to have blatantly ignored that concept (a concept that is present in any and every time-travel book/movie) causing major confusion to the reader. I understand she wanted Luke to break free of the bondage and curse that he despised so much but I think she could have gone about it in better ways.

THIS was a fabulous sequel in the new Royal Chronicles series by Camille Peters.
“Decoy” has several familiar fantasy elements, such as “I was sent here to kill you”, hidden identities, spying, and magic. That being said, there were some great spins on classic tropes; specifically, an assassin with a fear of blood?! Honestly, fair. Also, the fact we readers *knew* what would happen because of “Facade” ‘s ending, gave a fun anticipation on how our characters will get there. Luke’s shadow magic was SUCH a cool part of the story. Blair was a great blend of competence without being big-headed, thankfully. Plus, I love that we got to meet more characters in Estoria’s kingdom. Another piece I loved was NO third act break-up, and actual communication and trust when plans go awry. Thank you, Camille!! I also enjoyed seeing Evelyn’s character be described by Blair and Luke; sometimes authors paint their characters from previous books too majestic or instant-connection with new characters. I approved that Blair was suspicious around the Princess, but Camille left evidence that there’s hope for a friendship in future tales.
Also, I love rooftops even more now. And daggers. And, I think, even shadows.

This book was everything I didn’t even know I needed! It was so much fun to see what was going on in the palace during the events of Facade. (If you haven’t read the first book, don’t worry! This novel can also be read as a stand alone!)
My favorite part was definitely the dynamic between Blair and Luke. Each interaction was undeniably delectable! I adored the way they trust and rely on each other despite their conflicting missions. I also enjoyed how Luke was one of the most unique assassin characters I have ever read. (He has all of the expected charm and none of the moral issues that usually come with an assassin character!)
Once I picked up this book I was unable to put it down! All of the banter, musings, and midnight escapades stole my heart. Blair is a feisty, relatable heroine and it only took a few paragraphs to fall in love with her. It was heartbreaking each time she described what it felt like to know that she was condemned to die. Camille Peters did a beautiful job describing the clarity that comes with knowing each moment is your last. Decoy is a fantastic read and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of fairy tales, lighthearted romance, and palace’s filled with mystery.
This book took me a while to read but I did end up enjoying it. It was interesting to read this book after reading the first one. Decoy is the second book in Camille Peters’ Royal Chronicles series. Although these books can be read standalone it is better read in order. Decoy is set around the same time as Facade. Blair and Luke were interesting characters and I enjoyed getting to know them. They were both put into hard situations and were struggling to figure out how to make due. It was fun to read about them interacting and their banter. I liked Luke from the beginning but Blair had to grow on me a bit. The plot was interesting and there were a lot of twists and turns. However there were points where I did lose interest at times. But I would be drawn back into the story quickly. Decoy was a fun book and I would recommend it. I am excited to see what will happen next in this series. Decoy is a clean romantic fantasy.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.
2.5 stars The story was nice, but the plot holes really took away from the story. After reading book 1, this timeline didn’t match with the epilogue timeline that was set up. Then Luke suddenly knew exactly who the bad guy was along with the evidence WHEN THEY HADNT EVEN SEARCHED FOR IT YET. Luke’s thoughts say who the suspect is and what evidence they uncovered (85% mark) but they don’t do the actual search of the study til the next chapter (87% mark). I think this had to do with the book originally having a different timeline but then it got switched up last minute? Also, why was Luke surprised when he met the real princess -> she was the princess earlier and he would’ve met her & interacted many times in the past as someone in the nobility. Also, no funeral preparations for Luke’s dad? Surely people must be informed that his dad had died. And what exactly happened with the time sphere? Idk how the timeline could’ve stayed intact and Blair alive if that timeline changed way back…. The royal line of succession also might’ve been completely changed with king dying before son and who knows what would’ve happened then. Basically too many gaps in the story.

You would think that it would be impossible to have a super swoony enemies to lovers, assassin sent to kill you book that stays in the clean romance arena, but Camille Peters has done it!
Ever since reading the scenes with Luke in the Facade book, I KNEW that I needed his story with Blair, especially since I knew it was an enemies to lovers book, and Decoy did not disappoint!
The first scene with her being sent to the gallows pulled me right in, and I tore through the book. I LOVED having the dual POV, and was fascinated by the shadow curse! Blair and Luke are so perfect for each other, and this book became my favorite Camille Peters book almost instantly.
Their first kiss was AH-MAZING. Then I had to pick my jaw up off the floor in the scenes that followed (the poison, the attacks, just everything was YES)
If you like: ⚔️ Action scenes ⚔️ Assassin cursed to move through shadows ⚔️ Sent to kill you but fall for you instead ⚔️ SWOONY kisses
I am slowly falling in love with Camille Peters' writing style. It literally paints a picture in my mind, and I feel like I've been sucked into the story and can see everything that's happening. The surroundings, what the characters are doing and feeling, everything is just so masterfully written! Definitely not a book where you can just skim over descriptions and only read the dialogue. You'll miss so much!
I thought that this book had a bit more action and danger than Facade did, but it's still a bit slower paced than most fantasy stories out there. But it never felt slow! I never felt like the plot dragged or anything happening was filler stuff.
I loved the MC's! Oh my gosh! Their dynamic of assassin and spy was so fun, especially when they were starting to fall for each other but couldn’t really trust each other. If you heard anyone screaming "Just tell him, and then kiss!" this past week, that was me trying to tell these stubborn, sweet characters what to do. I have no notes. This book was fabulous!
I read Decoy this past month and I really enjoyed it. Luke, the mysterious assassin that we met last book, was most definitely my favorite part of the book, along with his devotion to dear Blair.
Honestly, Camille Peters never misses.
Blair's story was built up in the original book, and I'll admit, I was skeptical. But I should know better than to doubt Camille. Because every time I doubt her she proves me wrong.
Blair was an interesting character and it was cool to see her dynamic and what she was worrying about during the time that Facade was taking place. I do love Evelyn so much, so it was kind of difficult to take myself out of her story and into Blair's, but once I did the story was amazing, as Camille's stories always are.
My favorite part of the book was the twist on Luke's character. His fears, and seeing him fight against them throughout the story to protect the woman he loves. It was very satisfying to watch.
After meeting Blair in Facade, I was so excited to read her story - and it is fabulous!!! Although it can be read as a stand alone, it was so much fun reading Decoy and finding out what was happening in tandem with Facade!
I have never read a story with an assassin theme, but I enjoyed it so much! It added such a suspenseful and thrilling element. Plus both characters have such an intriguing background. Luke is just so darling! I fell in love with him the chapter I met him! I also love Blair’s bold, yet tender personality.
I got so sucked into the plot and what was happening! It kept me guessing and I am so satisfied with how everything turned out. I loved it!!
I mainly read this for Luke after his introduction towards the end of the first book, but I ended up liking Blair too and reading the both of them and how their relationship developed was just great. Luke has the assassin traits I swoon over in assassin characters, but he also has a unique "weakness" for someone in his profession and I've never seen something like that in an assassin character before so that just made me into the story more, and it was a great way to deepen the relationship from the vulnerabilities. Seeing Evelyn again from the first book was a good touch to tie all their stories together.
While I didn't really like this one as much as Façade, this was still a fun continuation of the story. I liked how Decoy and Façde had overlapping timelines. The books could probably be read in any order, though publishing order probably makes slightly more sense.
My biggest complaint with this book was the characters. I couldn't really connect to either of the main characters or their relationship. Some of the plot felt rushed and some of the emotional beats didn't feel realistic.
I think this one just wasn't for me, but I still look forward to reading the next book in the series.
This was my first assassin target romance and I loved it!
The first book in this series (Facade) sets up this book, but is not necessary to read to dive into this story.
Blair and Luke have great interactions as they battle each other with their wits. Blair is trying to save her life by uncovering the threat against the real princess' life. Luke is an exceptional assassin who has been tasked with killing her and fulfilling his family legacy.
They fight one another, fight alongside one another (while keeping secrets) until they can finally fight for one another.
Dark and delicious! This twisted tale of enemies to lovers is a must read. Luke and Blair must uncover the truth before it's to late because both of their lives are on the line. As the shadows grow their secrets get harder to conceal. Sometimes the hardest thing is letting go especially when you've been holding on tight for so long. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like either of the main characters. Then they had their first battle of whits and will. I was hooked. I could not put it down!
This was a really fun book! I had been eagerly waiting for it after reading the first installment in the series in which we are introduced to these characters: It was the perfect teaser to make me super curious about what the background and story of Blair and Luke would be. It did not disappoint! The characters and storyline were compelling and the story provided twists and turns that kept it interesting. This series is definitely my favorite of Camille’s series, and this book is one of my top books she has written, for sure. Can’t wait for the next one!
This was a twist that I didn't expect. Expertly executed, this book was wonderful. The characters really pulled you in, and some of the "flaws" that they had, were quite endearing. The banter was lovely and at the end, I was honestly very surprised. I had really thought I had the ending figured out, I was completely wrong. And the situation that occurred was very sad but also strangely comforting and a good sense of closure.
Bravo to Ms. Peters for a wonderfully unique and intriguing book.
I received an ARC for an honest opinion. These thoughts are my own.
The opening chapters were the perfect way to lead into Book 2 in this series. Having just finished Book 1, I was wondering how the secrets revealed in the earlier story would play out. Both the Decoy Princess and the assassin sent to kill her kept their secrets from each other as they played their opposite roles in the unfolding drama. The outcome was a true battle between light and dark, and the shadows played an intriguing role as the urgency increased. I was extremely satisfied with the conclusion.
Blair is sentenced to die when she is offered a chance to save herself. Impersonating the princess and figuring out who is trying to kill her. She accepts as it lets her continue the mission that got her thrown in jail in the first place. Along the way she finds herself falling in love with someone else who should be totally focused on his mission. I like seeing how this book meshes with the first one and some assumptions you might have from that one get thrown on their head reading this one.
