'Human Geography' has been defined as the synthetic study of the relationship between human societies and their environment. This new edition of Human Geography is a textbook for sociology and geography students at the university level. It is primarily designed to introduce the discipline in a social science perspective, while identifying the role of man in shaping the face of the earth.
This edition has been revised thoroughly to include extensive updates in all the chapters. Two new chapters—'Agricultural Systems of the World' and 'Minerals and Manufacturing'—have been added. Documented with hundreds of maps and diagrams, dozens of tables and plates, this book will be of immense help to students, teachers, and researchers alike. As with previous editions, the book retains its comprehensive coverage that has made it an indispensable resource for students.
This is one of the most,in fact, the primary books recommended for studying Human Geography in India and especially if you are going for the civil services. So,I thought it would be cumbersome and tedious to read. But boy,was I wrong. The book is very simple with easy language with lots of description about basic ideas and concepts and not a very mathematical approach towards the field.(Thank god, because the 'Quantiative Revolution' has made such an intersting field so tiresome and unexciting.)
A must read for beginners in Human Geography in India and especially if you are going to take geography as your optional subject in IAS examinations.
