More than three hundred years ago, the officers and crew of a Spanish treasure ship embarked on a quest to pull off the greatest heist the world would ever know.
What became of them has remained hidden by time, but now two parties are closing in on the truth and the billions in gold and jewels that went missing all those years ago.
Xavier Silvestre wants the treasure. He is rich, resourceful, and ruthless. He also has one of Patricia Fisher’s friends and that’s more than enough to get her involved.
Patricia has no interest in the treasure, she just wants her gang to feel whole again, but she doesn’t know who the other treasure hunter is, and she has no idea where he is. The only thing she does know is what he wants, and she is in a desperate scramble to find it first.
Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
What an exciting story! Patricia and her friends are treasure hunting whilst at the same time searching for Barbie who has been kidnapped. The story is thick with mischief, goons, and so many possibilities to discover the treasure that Patricia is almost overwhelmed. A great addition to the series!
Barbie is missing , she was supposed to be doing research at the museum thanks to a lead from Hugo Lockhart and Patricia Fisher had been in contact but now she wasn’t picking up her phone…. Patricia begs the senior police officer Captain Danny Danvers to help needing his clout to get her and her friends back into the museum to investigate. They are getting nowhere until Mrs Reeves the deputy museum director arrived ….It’s got to tie in with the San Jose ship and her treasure , fearing that her young friend has been kidnapped. She expresses how much danger she fears Barbie is in with the trail of dead mounting in face of a serial killer. With the ship still stuck in New York for repairs , it’s only a matter of time before she’s fixed albeit a few days and before she must set sail which calls for Alistair to deal with onboard tasks leaving Patricia and her party of staff and friends to follow the clues no matter how small or how far they may lead them. The suspense and gripping anxiety makes for compelling scenes and the characters carry the story along fluently with warmth and humour too . A truly captivating story ( excuse the pun). Well written , great characters , back stories and plots and the good descriptions make for an immersive binge read. I read an arc of this book and my review is in my own words and voluntary.
Patricia's fame keeps growing but is helping in a positive way. Sometimes I think Barbie's genius is wasted in the gym. It was great getting back in touch with Tempest and Big Ben. As for the cruisers stuck in NYC for 3 days, I'm sure most were less than happy.
WARNING THIS MAY CONTAIN A SPOILER By the book title, you know the treasure was found. That's nor a spiuler. But, at the end, with all the news coverage of the lost ship and the treasure, wouldn't that entice a whole new group of people to steal it?
What a thrilling end to the treasure hunt! *If you're not caught up in the stories, don't read any further.* Barbie had been kidnapped in New York in the last book, A Reason to Kill, and Patricia Fisher and crew are on the hunt for her. But in order to find her, they're going to need to solve to puzzle of the Treasure of the lost San Jose. This was as thrilling and full of humor as all of Higg's books, and definitely worth the time and $.
Fans of Patricia Fisher have waited for ages for this incredible wrap-up of the San José mystery, and it was worth it! This swashbuckling tale is sheer joy to read. Suffice it to say I will think of Steve Higgs every time I see a tractor from now on! (Nope, I’m not going to explain it; you’ll have to read this book to find out the hilarity that ensues!)
The grand finale--off to find the Lost Treasure, but more than that, to find the killer of Finn Murphy. but Barbie gets kidnapped, Patricia & the gang are in hot pursuit. There's a chance encounter with Big Ben & Tempest--gotta love Steve!!--and following clues, putting the pieces together, finds what exactly?? The Lost Treasure of course!!! You will not be disappointed and you will not sleep much until you have read it! Knocked it out of the ballpark!
This was a great wrap up on the story of the treasure. Lots of action. It was good to leave Gloria behind, her character is irresponsible and while a bit humourous, she's not a very loving or caring grandma for Sam. No cruise line would keep her on after her antics. I'm all for adventure but as an avid Cruise customer,no way is her employment realistic. It was great to have a few old friends crossover into the story.
I suppose you could say this is “just another Patricia Fisher book” and that is true in general - same characters, same trips down dead ends, but those characters are great and those dead ends make the plot more interesting. This is truly one of my favourite books in the series. Some long-running story lines will end but new adventures surely await.
Deadly investigation! Whilst every investigation can be potentially deadly, this one was more so than others in this series. This is a hair-raising story that kept me wanting to read late into the night. Mr. Higgs is a very gifted author with literally hundreds of thoroughly engaging stories rattling away in his brain vying for their turn to be told. Fantastic story! Excellent series!
Here is the deal, I just love this cast of characters. Honestly, I have blazed through all of the Patricia Fisher adventures written thus far and could not be happier! Just waiting for Jermaine to find love. These are a fun read, you will not be disappointed. Super happy to see my favorites Tempest and Big Ben pop up too.
This book has everything you could ever hope for: mystery, intrigue, suspense, revenge, loyalty and love, tremendous heroism versus evil treachery, a high seas battle against a raging storm, murder, violence, and greed and criminality on an epic scale. Of course, Patricia Fisher is the only sleuth who could unravel it all.
I especially love it when there is a crossover. And I want more Blue Moon with Tempest and Big Ben and the others. But this was a good one! Xavier got exactly what he deserved and Gomez needed to be taken down! Woohoo! The treasure tale is one for the books.
Finally finished this latest boxes set of Patricia Fisher: Ship's Detective Series! Loved the flow and all the added twists and turns. So glad Steve Higgs choose to spice it all up with additional adventures peppered in with Felicity Phillips, Blue Moon Investigators and Detective Atwell in to assist her and her crew! Ready for her next adventures Steve 💝

Fantastic opening. Gut-wrenching. Mr. Higgs's mind must never rest. He develops the most remarkable, rousing, and thrilling stories. One of the best Patricia Fisher adventures yet. Highly Recommended.
I absolutely love this author. If it's by Steve Higgs it's worth reading. Steve goes from strength to strength as all his series progress. And Patricia is a firm favourite. More please, Mr Higgs!
An exceptionally well written book, pulling lots of earlier threads together. A great end to a great series. A nail biting, thrilling finale, but presented with a touch of humour
This particular story went on and on, but was always fresh. I miss the doxies involvement though. With so many characters bunching up it seemed to me that they were packed in towards the end for some credit. Otherwise I enjoyed the story.
Patricia Fisher and her merry band of sleuths. This are has ended and we’re on our way to the next mystery. I admit that I was not a fan of the tractor scene but I understand why the author went in that direction.
I finished in a day because I had to find out what happens. Every twist and turn kept me engaged. Thought the adventure off the ship made it more interesting. Loved that Tempest and Big Ben helped at the end! Great read.
When this woman sets her mind on something she really comes through. She must save her friend from a ruthless killer. She really takes the prize when she figures it all out and saves the day…again.
I believe this to be one of the best and most intriguing books of the series so far. I couldn’t put it down, then couldn’t wait to pick it up again. Looking forward to the next and the next and the next!
Counldn't wait till the end to find out the result so I just flip to the back and found out that Barby was saved and those bombs that were on her arms were fake.
And on top of that, the killer and his henchman can no longer cause harm to others. the Killer is dead, the henchman is caught.

Never saw that ending g coming! So many characters, but a need for every one of them. I'm not a writer , but to have a talent to wind a plot around & back again is shire beauty. I just love this author. He keeps you so intrigued.
I found this to be Steve Higgs best book yet. Because I don’t want to give the story away, I’ll just say, I couldn’t put the book down. Enjoy the ride…
I have followed the Patricia Fisher stories from the start. Each one exciting and filled with danger, love, and mystery. I wait impatiently for each new Steve Higgs book.
A fantastic end to a brilliant series, plus a little teaser of some more adventures to come for Patricia and her friends. Keep them coming Steve, you're awesome
