Level A1 German Reader. A narrative-based learning including end-of-chapter exercises and comprehension tests, and use of slang to encourage students.
Michael is unhappy: he doesn’t like his school, nor where he lives nor the other kids in the area. However, there is one thing that makes him immensely happy: music. In fact, Michael spends every afternoon playing his guitar. Then one evening at a concert, Michael meets someone who invites him to join a band. This sets about the start of an exciting adventure…
Super great learning tool for students at the pointy end of A1 level German. I think this series in general is worthwhile.
The narrative-based book is about a teenager, Michael, who dreams of being in a band, and finally gets to live his dream. With its focus on the everyday, its liberal use of German slang, and its relatable plot, this is an ideal mechanism for students. Each chapter ends with some comprehension questions (both questions and answers in German) and opportunities for brief compositions, in the form of emails and personal opinions.
The text does not have accompanying translation or answers to the quiz (the latter are available online for teachers) but this shouldn't be a problem.
