Kathryn Monroe, busy activist and socialite, humors her mother by agreeing to attend her costume ball at the ancestral mansion in South Carolina. What she doesn't admit, even to herself, is that she actually looks forward to a break from the frenetic pace of her increasingly shallow lifestyle. She gets much more of a break than she anticipated when she passes the grandfather clock on the landing, on her way downstairs to the party, only to be transported to 1825, where she is mistaken for the girl who would become her great-great-great-great-great grandmother! Even more shocking, she finds herself falling for a man her counterpart despised.
Catherine Prescott feels increasingly trapped as her parents try to push her into an unwanted marriage and pile restriction after restriction upon her activities in their efforts to turn her into a proper young lady. But on her way downstairs to an important social function, she passes the grandfather clock on the landing and discovers herself in the twenty-first century, where it appears everything she ever dreamed of--and more--has come true. To make this amazing new world even sweeter, she seems to have found her soulmate in a man her identical descendant never cared for.
But will capricious Fate allow each to find happiness in another time?

I did like this story however it was a bit long and drawn out. It was not so riveting that I couldn't wait to see what happened next but I did enjoy the ending. The plot was good and the characters were likeable. Just wished it drew you in better.
I feel like I've read this story before with very minor differences and to be honest, I didn't care for it, not at all. I feel like Kathryn's "flaws" were more for the convenience of justifying to readers that she could be happy living in the past and simply to make it more believable when she adjusted too easily to a different time. Her fear of driving or being driven in a car was never talked about, there wasn't a reason and fears like that don't just happen without a reason, we were just expected to believe she feared driving and go along with it for the sake of the story. She was ridiculed by Logan because she was scared of driving as if it was stupid, even if that were true, why did he belittle her for it? That makes him a terrible person and in turn, he has no right to criticize her when he doesn't want that kind of treatment from her. He mocked her because she liked clothes, ok, most girls like clothes and what's so wrong with that? It doesn't make her a socialite just because she cares about her appearance. All of these things he couldn't stand about her were trivial and shallow.
Everything that bothered him about her was never even shown. He said she'd never set foot on a dirt track, but we never saw that. He said she was too good to pump gas, we never saw that. He said she'd never talk to his friends at the race track, but we never saw that. He said she was scared of driving in general but we never saw that, except for the beginning where she was understandably cautious because it was raining like any good driver should be. He made her out to be this spoiled, selfish, stuck up snob but we never saw her behave that way. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind but that didn't detract her caring about slaves and looking out for the other Catherine's well-being, not to mention she was an activist in her life, so it made it that much harder to believe she was as bad as Logan made her out to be.
As for the other Catherine, well there's not much to say except she was boring. SHE was the epitome of old fashioned and stuck up with her trash talking of modern swimsuits and clothes. She was bland and a carbon copy of a Harlequin heroine. There was nothing special about her, she was just your everyday girl from 1825.
I found the romance greatly lacking for both couples. Logan and Catherine didn't captivate me, Ryan and Kathryn were a little better but didn't spend enough time together that included getting to know the other and Ryan didn't particularly wow me. Honestly, I would have preferred Kathryn and Logan in a modern day enemies to lovers or if the author kept the time travel trope but they eventually realized they had underlying feelings for the other after being separated by time. They had much more chemistry in one scene in the beginning than they did in the entire book with their other counterparts. I just had a hard time connecting with both couples that were paired up. I didn't buy that Catherine would make Logan happy for years to come because he'd get bored by her once she adjusted and her fascination of the future wore off. I didn't buy that Ryan loved Kathryn, I think he just liked the idea of her because she had the same morals as he did. I found myself rewriting the book in my head with Logan and Kathryn finding their way to each other and the other two just kind of faded into the background. I like my version of this book better.
I was disappointed because I really love the time travel aspect in romance but this one failed to capture and hold my attention. I'd like to say it was worth reading once but I'd be lying because this bordered on I'm bored and want this book to be over to how many more pages are there? Sorry, I didn't enjoy it but I guess we can't win them all.
Just finished this one, and have to say I really enjoyed it! I have read several time travel novels, but this is the first time I've read one where family members exchanged places in time...it was such fun to read! You have to pay attention, so this book needs to be read when one isn't distracted, as it jumps from the 1800s to the 1900s to carry on each story line. The effort is well worth it though. I would recommend this one to anyone who is interested in historical romance, and time travel....a really cool story!!
3.75 rating I really was surprised by this book, I wasn't really looking forward to reading it but found it well written and couldn't put it down. I would recommend it to history buffs.
This book is probably the first book (in like 1800 books) that I have rated lower than it actually deserves. This is really a four-star book. What three stars means is that I cannot turn to someone and recommend this. The dilemma is this. Although somewhat "off screen" or "fade-to-black," both couples had sex, one couple twice. The encounters were not so graphic that I had to quit reading and, in fact, the events seemed over almost as quick as they had begun but it leaves me with an unease in recommending this book. So I leave it at three stars. Because of my unease, this is probably not an author for me, either. However, this was such a clever story about the switch that took place between the young ladies. I love time travel❣️I thought the writing was good, too. Sigh.

This book had a very similar plot to one I read by Eugenia Riley. The two girls, who were related to each other, also exchanged places on the stairs with a grandfather clock and were based in the South and fell in love with each other's intended. I think I may have liked that book better. Just like that book, I enjoyed the romance of the modern girl better. Not surprisingly, the modern girl (Kathy) had sex first and since she inhabited her ancestor's body also lost her virginity, whereas the real virgin, Catherine, only felt the pleasure.
The whole subplot of the slave on Kathy's side made the book more interesting, but it's not really something I would recommend. It was good, but there are many better books.
This sweet, time travel romance was just the kind of book I needed to get my mind off of 2020’s Coronovirus pandemic. Because of all the terrifying news of horrific hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 (the name of the respiratory illness so many people get from this virus), it has been a bit difficult for me to concentrate these last 4 months on reading. I have started and stopped several books, and finally this one kept me riveted.
I loved this book about time travel with two women who are related. I liked the idea Ms. Hiatt had for the way they made the switch, it seemed easier for them to adjust to their new lives. I think it would be fun to do that with an ancestor of my own, maybe not permanently, but to experience the life back then. This is a very well written book and I recommend it!
Time travel within your own family. One is from 1994, the other is the 5time great-grandmother of the other from 1825. They switch bodies, and find something each of them has been searching for, Love. This was great fun. I really enjoyed it.
I really liked this book, it was a easy enjoyable read, I do hope Brenda Hiatt brings out a second to see what boths C/Katherine's been upto, but otherwise a lovely twist of time travel.
Great time travel romance! One Kathryn goes back in time and her ancestor Catherine comes forward in time. I love time travels when they make you realize how you would have to live without modern conveniences. But its also interesting to think about how someone from the past is shot into the future and would they find how things have changed in 100 or whatever years a good thing or not? Great books, loved it!
I love time travels as a whole, but having the two characters switch places in time was such a fun and unique twist. Going back and forth between the two women worked especially well when the author left one of the women in a tense situation. Ordinarily I would have stopped at the end of the chapter, but with so much at stake, I had to read on to make sure everything turned out all right. Whew! Ms. Hiatt made me work to see my happily ever afters. But it was worth it.
Time Travel Romances are one of my fave genres to read... I think this would be one of the hardest genres to write, given the different eras and keeping on tracking to the plot for both past & present! This book was well thought out and written, I applaud the author for this amazing story! The storyline was captivating and the elaborate details of this tale flowed so well...as a reader that makes for a wonderful read!
I won this book from the author on Facebook, and I am so happy I did. This book was amazing! The plot was very imaginative and the writing smooth and creative. I could not help but fall in love with the characters and root for their happiness. I really enjoyed all the details in this book - both, from the past and from the future. This was such a page turner that kept my attention and did not want to let go for a while after I was done reading. Loved it!
Really liked this one!! Great story a new twist of time traveling (for me)but it was fun. Fun fast easy read! Kathy & Ryan were as sweet & lovable as Cathy & Logan. Love how Annette became a very good friend to Cathy and helped through most of it, even as she missed Kathy.
I've read many many time-travel novels and this one has a nice concept, it's different as the traveling is done in the mind and not physically, between a woman from 2013 and one of her ancestor (from 1825). I really enjoyed it, the ending made me smile :)
This is a good one. Both of my favorite genre's combined to make a great read! Plantation life, with all it's evils and sometimes glamour, and time travel. Thanks Mrs. Hiatt.
Wonderful time travel romance with a twist. Two heroines swap places and meet the men of the their dreams. I love the era as well. Very well written and I enjoyed it very much!!!
