Pretentious and dull. I was dragging myself through this. Stolid, slow; unlikeable and/or unengaging characters. The author may have been writing about a pivotal time and a philosophy along the path to a culture of totalitarianism, but he didn’t do it very well. If the style of this was used in a novel today I’m pretty sure it would be panned and not praised as a classic.
