My name Knox Thayer, only son and heir to my father's empire.
I have everything I want in life - money and power, and the comfortable living that comes with it.
But then someone tries to take advantage, stealing drugs from my cartell. I will not stand for it. But when I discover her twin brother, I think I've found something I want more than everything I have. Porter. He may not feel the same, but if he doesn't want me to hurt his sister, he's going to agree to be mine for the weekend. I can change his mind in a weekend. By the end of it, he will love me. Whether he likes it or not
Charlotte Brice started writing at the age of thirteen when her handwriting looked like a drunken spider tried to navigate its way across the page. Practicing her handwriting got a lot more interesting when her gran gave her two Rawhide books, and her imagination took over. Charlotte is left-handed and can lick her own nose. She lives in England with her husband, and many animals, four of them human. Attack chickens, confused dragons and moving rocks make up the majority of the menagerie. We can't expect much better from someone who studied fruit flies during her animal science degree and then qualified as a vet. She remembers those days fondly, when putting her arm up a cow's bottom, and socks on emus' heads was her kind of normality. Now her head is filled with tentacles and schizophrenic phoenixes.
‘My boy has such a spring in his step when he feels free to be himself. This side of him is quickly becoming my favourite. I was wrong to try to cage it, but now I have tamed him to about the same degree as Bog Cotton.’
Charlotte Brice creates an MM mafia whirlwind with Slayer. Intrigue and suspense, along with exotic dancing and romance, are key components of the story of the son of a family cartel and his unexpected and passionate response to a sweet twin.
There are some truly adorable lines that balance the bloodshed in this story. Be prepared for dom/sub play and family secrets.
I really gave this story an effort, but it just wasn’t for me. The MC’s were too weakly written IMO. I only read up to the 55% mark because the story was actually getting worse for me (not better). Porter is too much of a pushover and sucker for anything Knox does. My main issue is that Knox comes off as rich prick douche and not a mafia boss. He’s just super annoying to me and his chapters are terrible. The fact that he calls Porter “boy” every chance he gets (total 191 times in this book) is absolutely excessive and repetitive. I find myself cheering for the sister (antagonist) because I’m so indifferent to the MC’s.
This goes from dark mafia romance with dubcon and kink to pampering, breakfast in bed and petting zoos so fast I got whiplash. The pacing is so odd with just the last 25% just being filler.
Also, I’m super confused why the Introduction says this is a “dark paranormal fantasy and a gay romance novel” when there isn’t anything paranormal about it? I thought Knox was going to secretly be a dragon, what with the constant use of “treasure”, but that’s not the case.
Porter finds himself trapped by his sister’s cartel debts and forced into the dangerous orbit of Knox Thayer — a ruthless, obsessive man who offers protection at a steep price. What begins as survival pulls Porter into Knox’s violent world, blurring the line between captivity and something far more complicated. When threats from Porter’s past resurface and endanger his sister, he must choose between betraying Knox or surrendering completely.
I loved this dark, intense romance is driven by two powerful threads: the crushing debt Porter’s sister leaves him to face alone, and the ruthless way she dismisses him when he tries to help. That betrayal pushes him straight into Knox’s world — a world of danger, obsession, and a connection he never expected. What unfolded between Porter and Knox was raw and consuming. Their relationship started in fear and control, but the emotional pull between them grew until love felt not just possible, but inevitable. The contrast between Porter’s abandonment by his own family and Knox’s fierce, possessive devotion gives the story its emotional punch. A gripping, high‑heat romance where loyalty, danger, and unexpected love collide. This was an MM story with mature content.
I really enjoyed the story. It's not what I thought it was going to be.
Knox is a mafia boss, and finds out someone has been stealing from him. This leads him to Porter, via his twin sister. Know takes Porter initially as an incentive for gaining the truth, but it leads to so much more.
So I started this book thinking it would be all about Knox dominating Porter, but it wasn't. Knox was so sweet with Porter, but at the same time did show his dominant side a lot, but Porter loved it. The dynamics between these two just showed how well-suited they were for each other.
The majority of the book is about Knox and Porter's budding relationship but finding the person responsible ran alongside and we get to meet some really interesting characters. I did not see the little twist towards the end coming.
We get a HFN ending with Knox and Porter but the story looks like it may continue into another book as there was a bit of a cliffhanger with one of the characters.
This is dark romance that opens the series with controlled danger rather than chaos.
I listened using Kindle Unlimited with text-to-speech, and the tone is sharp from the beginning. The tension builds through calculated power shifts and psychological pressure instead of dramatic spectacle. It knows it is dark and commits to that lane.
The pacing is deliberate but steady. Dialogue drives most of the scenes, which makes it manageable in audio format when you are multitasking. The character motivations are layered but clear enough that I did not feel lost.
This is not soft or comforting. It leans into control, deception and morally grey dynamics. If you want safe and sweet, this is not that. If you enjoy strategic tension and dangerous attraction, it delivers.
For a KU dark opener, this held my focus and set the tone well for the series. Controlled. Intense. Distracted brain approved.
Couldn’t put this book down. It starts very intense and confronting with Knox being very controlling of Porter as well as being all the things you might expect of the son of the boss of a successful drug cartel. As the story progresses, it does become less intense and there’s more focus on the developing relationship between the two men, especially how it develops outside the bedroom (which surprised me, given how the book started). I shouldn’t have wanted Porter and Knox to be together, given the horrendous things Knox does, however the author gives Knox’s point of view so clearly that we see another side of the man, and I really wanted things to work out for them. Does it? Read the book and find out! It’s a great story and there are all sorts of twists and unexpected turns.
Charlotte Brice has started this new series off well with this story about Knox, who is a mafia boss and Porter, a pole dancer and is drowning under his responsibilities and secrets from his twin sister. The two men meet each other under bad circumstances and fall for each other almost immediately. Because of the complications that Ms Brice has cleverly set up their are a lot of obstacles to them being together. I liked how Ms Brice doesn’t present all of the troubles at the start but lets them come out slowly in the story for both us and the characters to discover. Meanwhile the guys can’t keep their hands off each other and they find out that what they want is exactly what the other can give. Great beginning
56 pages in and so far it’s all bark and no bite. It’s honestly getting frustrating how they keep talking about hurting the MC all because of his sister and not hurting her instead. She’s the one that stole the drugs yet you’re going to abuse and use the MC? Tf kind of logic is that. Torturing her will get her to talk yet your taking the route of messing with the MC (her brother) and that fact that the MC still has blind faith towards his sister who couldn’t give a shit about him. PLEASE DONT LET THIS BE ANOTHER STUPID STORY WHERE THE MC FAVORS HIS FAMILY EVEN WHEN THE FAMILY DOESNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT HIM AND HAS SHOWN IT. Because that’s the direction it’s going.
3 stars for now. We’ll see if I drop the story. Already the ML is cringe asf.
Porter's sister steals drugs from Knox Thayer. He takes both of them, the sister to torture, Porter to possess. Porter agrees to be his for the weekend if he won't hurt his sister and takes care of his Mom. Knox is a possessive, obsessive Dom who really wants Porter to submit. He recognizes Porter likes non consensual sex and seems really cruel at first but is a big softie to Porter underneath. He is my favorite kind of Mafias Boss, nasty but butter for his man. Porter is a lot sassier when he is finally comfortable enough to love Knox. Porter's sister is an unloving piece of work. I can't wait for the next book in the series! I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Rating:3.5*. Story took far to long to get going. Knox talks, talks and talks about what he wants to do to Porter. Porter whines, whines and whines about what Knox is doing. No real story 'till the last part of the book. When the story finally became interesting boom I'm left high and dry waiting for next book. BTW sex scenes that should be highly erotic aren't. The constant thoughts of Knox and whines of Porter detract from the percolating eroticism. All that said I must read Book 2 to find out what happens.
Porter falls into a forced bargain with Mafia Boss - Knox when his twin sister steals drugs from him. With not much choice but to accept the deal. It leads Porter into an eye opening experience with how sexual Knox is and it leads Knox into deeper feelings with him. I liked the dynamic that Knox and Porter had. Yes Knox is a violent man but there's a different side to him with Porter. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a great read.
I like to think I can suspend disbelief with the best of them but though this book had all the necessary parts for a great story, parts of it were just too ridiculous and I kept getting knocked out of the story.
Additionally, I typically like well-done bdsm, dub-con to con, master/slave relationship books and this was not that. It was messy, all over the place, and seemed thrown in because it’s just what ya do in this type of book.
This book was an awesome read that I enjoyed from beginning to end. From the moment that I started I was hooked and could not put it down. It moves along at a really great pace which makes for an easy and enjoyable read. The characters are amazing and no matter what happens you cannot help but love them. This book needs to be read, you will not be sorry that you did.
Okay I honestly loved the book and the storyline. The only thing I didn’t like was how freaking fast the MC jumped to the worst possible conclusions possible. It was annoying. But I’d still recommend it because the conclusions he’d jump to were quickly shown to be wrong.
I loved this book from page one. The story captured my attention and didn't let go until the end. This book has twists and so much going on in the story. I loved seeing Knox and Porter together and how their relationship progresses. I highly recommend!
I loved Slayer!!!I loved it so much!!! It has all the tropes that I adore like big bad mafia boss MC Kidnapping sweet, innocent MC. Then coerces or blackmails him into a forced or arranged relationship. Porter is just perfect and so is Knox and they’re perfect together.
Stumbled upon this gem and what a gem it was. Loved it loved the characters and the developing story arc. Just enough of everything a dark mafia story should have. Roll on book two.
I have to say, I DNF. It went from zero to sixty and not in a way I cared to continue reading. All the spice for sure. Just didn’t really see how else the book could keep me entertained for another half of it.
I don't really know what to say for this book, as while I enjoyed it and sped through in one go it was also missing something for me. Still I was gripped and it was interesting, different from my usual read. There was a good blend of dark and soft moments, especially with Knox and Porter.
The mafia aspect is great too and didn't shy away from anything, theres a few on screen murders and action scenes which were stunning. It was nicely balance though with the alternating povs of Porter and Knox , Porter exploring the home and being able to embrace what he enjoys.
Finding his own path outside of his family, I really liked seeing him come into his own and his teasing towards the end was great. Porters dancing and the swimming pool, opportunity of new life.
Porter & Knox shouldn't work and the story is very fast paced over a couple of days, yet somehow I grew to love them. There is a lot of kink elements in this one chains, toys, dub-con, public and master/slave. It's very spicy and relationship focused in a way, while still following a plot & mystery aspect.
Overall an entertaining read and must say it kept me intrigued throughout, just very different from my usual. I am curious to read the next though, after the cliffhanger at the end of this book. Leaving on a happy for now with Porter & Knox.
I persevered well beyond 50% but this was just such a confusingly worded mess, I completely lost the point of the story, the MCs' emotions and motivations. Gave up trying to make sense of it in the end.
So this is clearly unedited as chapter 12 and 13 are the same. Characters are 2D and dialogue is choppy at best. Honestly senseless and disappointing. DNF as was distracted by literally everything else 😞
No. When you are SAed your c*** DO NOT. Please do not give the wrong impression that the victim seems to be enjoying the SA. BDSM with consent is one thing. But SA at first sight first night. No.
