Lost Yesterday was WOW when it started, but the ending was even more of a WOW factor! The entire book was just WOW!

Marin is thrust back in time after a horrible accident. Here she is 120 years in the past falling in love with a ghost she had seen before her accident. During the course of the book she fights between her worlds to choose where she really belongs.

This book was written so well. I fell in love on the first page. I loved the characters. I loved the history. I loved the time travel. Honestly, I loved it all! The ending is a big shock though. But, one the readers will (you guessed it) LOVE!

Great book from the very first page to the very last. I can not wait to read more from such a talented author!...Stormi

Even though I rated this book three stars (which is what I rate the majority of books I read), I have mixed feelings about it. I knew I was taking my chances when I picked a romance written in the 90s because I haven't had good luck with them in the past.

First, the downside. Books set in the south in the 1800s aren't very kind to black people. This one wasn't as bad as some I've read but there were a few offensive terms that, while historically accurate, I could have lived without. However, I knew the setting when I picked up the book. Also, time travel stories where the modern character jumps into someone else's body are not my favorite because that adds an extra obstacle.

Despite the things I didn't like, I kept reading because the mystery of why the heroine traveled through time intrigued me. The author also did an excellent job of portraying the passion between the hero and heroine without describe the actual sex act in graphic detail. I'm not a prude, but sometimes I just want the sizzle and the suggestion of steak and then we can get on with the plot.

Overall, I feel uncomfortable recommending this book because of the few racial slurs. However, I would be willing to see if this author has any books not set in this time period.

A very interesting spirit/time travel book set in 1996 Memphis with Marin and 1876 Memphis with Hunter a plantarion owner trying to rebuild after the conclusion of the war between the states. It's kind of a Woo Woo (supernatural) story as well as a look at the massive recovery the south endured by the southern states. It's also a love story between two people who were from different backgrounds who would not in the normal course of events ever have gotten together i.e. an unmarried young women with few resources and opportunities to make a living other than as a companion, caregiver or nanny. The woo woo part involves Marins fiancée Ryan who is killed when his fighter jet is shot down and he appears to her after she has a bad automobile accident and is in a coma. I liked this story even tho I to go back a few times to conncet the future and past dots.

I loved this time travel love story. Well written and flowed so smoothly from the present to the past and back again. I had tears in my eyes at times when reading. I was hoping for a happy ending but wasn't sure which choice she would make. I have to go find the other books in this series to read next.

A good read. I suggest that you read it so you can agree with me..
A good way to spend time instead of watching TV.

I accidentally came across this book and am so glad I did as I found a new author I love. I can only hope she puts out more eventually. I loved this book as a whole but certain things excluded would have made it better. This book would have had so much more potential if...

His mother abandoned and neglected him his whole life. Then showed up out of nowhere because she was broke and took advantage of him because she knew she could. She's an angry, bitter soul. It was too late for her to be redeemed after all that time. It seemed completely unrealistic for her to try to genuinely change. Marin putting her in her place and making her pretend to be civilized was more than enough change for her.

What really bothered me the most was that even in the end, Hunter still wouldn't believe she was telling the truth of where she came from. It wasn't until after they married that he finally believed her because he "saw" the truth. What saved this book for me was the relationship between her and Hunter it was sweet yet entertaining. Her struggle being pulled in two different directions, living in the past or future, Hunter or David, was beautifully done and satisfying. I recommend reading this at least once it's an enjoyable read regardless of the things I didn't like.

I liked the firey personality of Marin. Felt bad for Nils. The ghost of Hunter is intriguing. The plot of weaving present and past was alluring. Loved Mamie. Liked seeing the change in Lucille but it seemed flat. It was hard to see the change actually happening in her rather than being told it happened.

It bothered me that Hunter was constantly fighting his urge to love his wife. Honestly if I were Marin, I would have thrown up my hands and returned to the present time because he was hot and cold to her. I wish there was more about why the ghost of Hunter was pursuing her.

Spoiler alert*****
Another reviewer said that Hunter was actually Ryan but I missed that completely. The ending happened so fast in the last paragraph that I had to read it twice to understand. I would have like a little more dialog at the end to understand. I worry that I missed something. If Ryan is Hunter then how did that happen exactly?

The book seemed to linger forever in the middle. The ending was a bit abrupt for me. Anyhow, I like this author and really liked Waiting for Yesterday. I plan to read more of this author's work.

Time travel books can go in many different directions. This is one of those books. Beginning with seeing a ghost, Marin is determined to find out who he was. Because she curates the Pierce house, finding things is a lot easier. Losing her first husband, meeting a dashing ghost, having a wreck, and to top it off she's not in Kansas anymore! The only thing I did not like was the fact that she went back in time yet her dress, speech patterns, and mannerisms never seemed to be addressed. However, the end of the book will clear that up for you quite nicely. An easy read but I find it much better than a third grade level. If you like ghosts, grouchy old mothers, crazy pets, handsome leading man and a demure leading lady, try this book. It's not the best I have ever read and it's not the worst.

*** "Lost Yesterday", by Jenny Lykins, sends Marin back to 1876 Memphis in another body. She already was falling for Hunter, a ghost from old photos who kept appearing in her historical mansion workplace. An Irish fiance, a lonely orphan tot, a disagreeable mother, and other complications involve humor and easy conflict. The happy ever after transcends time and bodies via an ending that is a tad too tricksy. [Spoiler. (Do not read more unless you want to know the ending.) Visions of hospital and coma from vehicle crash include her beloved late husband, Ryan. When Hunter was revived from a childhood illness with complete amnesia, he had become Ryan.]

Lost Yesterday

Time travel and ghosts. I really enjoyed the story though at times the author got a little long winded and "cheesy" in the romance department. I also could have done very nicely without the little girl in the story call her grandmother "Gwandma" and the heroine "Mawin" instead of Marin. It was irritating and a little too reminiscent of Elmer Fudd. All in all it was good story with a great ending that I didn't see coming.

Awsome!

What does every love story have? Conviction of love personalized with devotion and of course lust, that turns to love. It is possible to have more than one love. Mari and her two loves managed to complete the triangle and with a moppet and mother in law you have a LOVE STORY that reminds us how to love. Well done ms. Lykins!!!!!!

Intriguing, lovely, forever, love story

I loved the ending. The story was well written and very imaginative. This was a different and plausible take on time travel. I really liked it and Jenny Lykins writing style. This book is well worth reading.

Lost Yesterday by Jenny Lykins

This has to be a five stars book. It's different main character was not like other time travel books. Only they should have extended the ending more. Good book!
