When I stopped working (almost TWO years ago!!) I determined that I would start reading the rather impressive collection of coffee table and/or art books we'd collected over the years. This one came up today. Its a beautifully illustrated book with two essays by prominent critics. It was put together for a 1983 retrospective of Motherwell's work. Usually, when I read one of these books, even if its an artist I've never much cared for, I come away with a much greater appreciation for their work. With a greater understanding of what they were doing, I generally have greater liking for their work. Somehow that did not happen here. Never liked nor understood Motherwell, and I still don't. The best thing: someone had stuck $150.00 in cash in the pages.
