As much as I've been looking forward to this book, I barely made myself finish it. I think this may have been my least favorite book in the series. After DNFing the previous book in the series, I had really high hopes for this one, so maybe I just set them too high?

The setup is interesting; NSA Agent Joaquin Muñoz agent trying to save the long, lost daughter of a murdered Russian scientist that may just hold the secrets to the life altering genetic discovery he made right before his death. After a recent string of murders point toward the killers seeking her out as well as his best friend's murder after investigating these deaths, Joaquin decides to basically stalk and then kidnap the woman he believes to be the one the killers are after. Just one problem, she doesn't believe him about her past. She doesn't have any memories, but she does have some vivid dreams of a girl that just may be her. So what's a guy to do? Take her to the safest place he can imagine, Club Dominion of course.

Unfortunately, this is also exactly where the book began to take a downhill turn. For those that may not remember Joaquin, he's Kata's brother from Surrender to Me. After losing his father at a young age he's never been the same. It's caused him to completely detach himself from feeling anything, including his family. I have to say I found a hard time connecting to something this extreme. The man has basically avoided anything to do with his family for years, even though all of them make more than numerous attempts to reach out to him.

The chemistry between Joaquin and Bailey was lackluster at best. Bailey is not a submissive but has the makings of one, and Joaquin is not a trained Dom, but has the urges of one. Enter Club Dominion and some kinky fuckery and BAM there's spankings and feelings are involved.

Their connection seemed to be the stuff of BDSM stockholm syndrome. I just couldn't connect to it for the life of me. They go from strangers to screwing in just a matter of days. The entire book basically circles around the suspense plot, which while somewhat interesting, never really grabbed me either.

Will I read the next book in the series? Probably. Though I don't think I'll be rushing to read it as soon as it releases.

4 Sexy Suspenseful Stars

His to Take is a standalone novel and is part of the Wicked Lovers series. I started this series years ago. I read Wicked Ties and Decadent. I enjoyed both books. I don’t usually skip around in series, but I wanted to see how much Shayla’s Black’s writing has changed.

Just like me, tastes do change. I love my sexy reads, but I’m into suspenseful plots lately and His to Take hit the mark for me.

I think a lot of the disappointment in some of the negative reviews steams from readers expecting an erotic novel. His to Take isn’t overly steamy, but there’s plenty of sex to keep any reader happy. Let’s just say there are chapters of just sex.

Joaquin and Bailey

Joaquin’s bestie dies and Joaquin wants to avenge his death. His friend’s death is linked to Bailey’s well-being. Joaquin must protect Bailey before the killer kidnaps and tortures Bailey to death.

Joaquin is kind of like that loner hardcore sexy broody Hero. He doesn’t keep ties to anyone and he doesn’t have any friends, well except for the one that got killed. He’s main objective is to keep Bailey safe until he can track the killer.

Bailey is a ballerina. She has a traumatic past, but the trauma caused her to block it from her memory. She has reoccurring dreams of herself as a child, but doesn’t know where it comes from.

Joaquin kidnaps Bailey. I know, totally funny and 100% cute. Joaquin thinks it’s easier to kidnap Bailey, instead of reasoning with her and explaining the situation. Bailey later wakes up and is bound to the bed and is wondering what is going on.

I really enjoyed Joaquin and Bailey’s interaction. I liked that she just wants to go home, but she’s crazy attracted to Joaquin. Joaquin just wants to have sex with Bailey, but he knows he needs to deal with the main problem. Finding the killer.

Other Plots

Joaquin believes Bailey is more than just the killer’s target and tries very hard to get Bailey to remember her past so they can get clues to finding the killer. I think some readers found this difficult to read, but I really enjoyed these parts. I wanted to know more about Bailey’s past, like where did she come from, who is after her, why can’t she remember?

Throughout the whole book there’s tension with Joaquin and Bailey and also the killer getting closer to Bailey.

I’m not aware of the past characters, but a lot of the character from the previous books interact and are a focal point in His to Take. I really enjoyed this and it didn’t take away from my reading experience. I’m actually going back and I’m going to read the series so I can read their stories. There’s some light BDSM scenes and as a hardcore dark reader, I was perfectly connect with this.

He kissed like a man who knew how to make a woman melt. He spanked like a Dom who had a point to make. He was insistent. Sure of himself. He was nothing like any of the boys she knew.

I found it cute what a novice Joaquin was. It made me smile reading how new both Joaquin and Bailey are new to the BDSM world.

Overall, I enjoyed His to Take. I found it a touch suspenseful, sexy and fairly entertaining. I’m a fan of the series.

I love this series. In this book we get to meet Kata's brother Joachim. He is hot, but has no idea about BDSM and no idea he's a Dom. I wish there had been more with Thorpe and Sean "training" him. Bailey was a sweetheart and "virgin" to all things Club Dominance. They had great chemistry, and there was a seriously disturbed bad guy running around.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 3 is because we got to see LOTS of all the old crew. And I do mean lots and I do mean all, plus lots of babies and pregnant women.

Next book is Axel, and I can't wait. I've been wanting his book for awhile.

REVIEW:
This is a great erotica and romantic suspense series! His to Take is the ninth book in Shayla Black's Wicked Lover Series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I recommed reading them in order because the couples from past books show up through out the series. I really enjoyed this new addition to the series. His To Take is full of action, suspense, danger and scorching hot romance. The romance heats up the moment the characters meet. Joaquin and Bailey both have a past that haunts them and they seem to draw strength from each other. Bailey brings out the alpha dominant and protective instincts in Joaquin. Their story is fast paced and captured and held my attention from start to finish. I recommend this book for readers looking for a well written erotica romance with plenty of action and suspense.

HIS TO TAKE by Shayla Black is another deliciously wicked and dangerous installment to the amazing Wicked Lovers series. This is an enticing romance about a man on a mission to uncover the truth and the woman he craves to protect. In Ms. Black's books were are used a seasoned Dominant trying to tame his submissive. With HIS TO TAKE, we take a turn and follow a man who yearns to explore the dominant side of himself with the woman who brings out all of his protective instincts. It's a nice change of pace and I enjoyed the journey immensely.

Boundaries are pushed, steamy sex scenes are taken up a notch, and the suspenseful thrill ride that this takes you on, is delightfully entertaining. In most of the books in this series, it takes me no time to fall in love with the characters. But in HIS TO TAKE, Joaquin and Bailey have to work for it a little more. I didn't have that instant connection that I'm so used to. This author has never let me down before, and I just knew it would be only a matter of time, where there would be some turning point in the story, and then my heart would soar for these two. And that is exactly what happened here. These characters brought out each other's strengths and banished their weaknesses. They grew independently and grew as a couple, breaking down wall after wall to finally reach one another's hearts. This is where Shayla Black is a genius with her words. She sucks you in with all the emotion pouring out of the pages. It gets you right in the gut. She breaks your heart and then mends it, leaving you in a state of bliss.
What I absolutely LOVED the most, was having all of the past characters back together. They have become a family to me, and they definitely own a piece of my heart.

Don't be fooled by the 4 STAR rating for HIS TO TAKE. This was a fantastic read for sure and Shayla Black owns this genre in my book!

Shadow's review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

This addition to the Wicked Lovers series wraps a suspenseful plot, fascinating complex characters, and a touching love story in a scorching hot read that keeps the reader involved from beginning to end.

Joaquin Munoz has disconnected from people since the death of his father when he was 13. That changes when he meets Bailey Benson. Bailey doesn't know that she was born Tatiana Aslanov, the daughter of a Russian scientist who created some groundbreaking work in DNA alteration. She also doesn't realize that a group of crazy separatists called LOSS are out to find her in an effort to find her father's research. Since her real parents died when she was 5 and the trauma she went through is expressed only in her dreams, she doesn't know what she can do to find the research.

After Joaquin kidnaps her to save her from LOSS, he hides her in Dominion, where both of them discover needs neither realized: Joaquin is a Dom and Bailey is a sub. Can these two reach past their own vulnerabilities and the danger lurking around every corner to find a future together?

We get to become reacquainted with a number of the other couples from previous books in the series, most especially Callie, Thorpe and Sean, who are trying to plan a wedding in spite of the fact that LOSS had previously targeted Callie.
The book captures and keeps the reader's interest from page one and doesn't stop until the end. The action is fast-paced without being rushed and the author does a great job of exploring how Bailey feels when she learns her entire past is a lie. The love story is touching and believable, making this overall, a really great read.

This was a great story it really felt like the perfect companion novel to the last book. The way it woven in was great. I wasn’t sure if I liked Joaquin but he grew on me.
Bailey is an interesting heroine, I thought for sure she was going to fight more but it was as if she knew she was going to be going on the adventure of her life.

Joaquin had a lot of learning to do in this book as well and I think he really became the man he always wanted to be.

LOVED the narration I have been wanting a full length novel by Christian Fox and we finally got it!

NSA agent Juaquin Munoz is on a mission: track down the man who is systematically murdering women and who killed his best friend. Bailey Benson fits the female victims' profile and may have information he needs. He'll use every resource he has to avenge his friend's death and to ensure Bailey doesn't fall into the killer's hands.

In this latest addition to the Wicked Lovers series the focus is on Joaquin, the brother to one of the heroines from a previous book. His best friend is a private investigator killed during the course of a stalking case which turns out to be more. Joaquin believes the murderer is searching for the daughter of Viktor Aslanov and is killing women who meet her profile. He hopes to find the daughter himself and prevent the deaths of any more women. Bailey Benson is one of the leads Joaquin and the group of men he is working with track down. Joaquin snatches Bailey to protect her as the other women on the men's list fall to the killer's hand. To his disappointment, Bailey isn't able to give him the answers he is looking for either. She has no memory of a life apart from the people who raised her. She also has no intention of cooperating with the man who abducted her. What ensues is a race against time and each other as they try to unravel the mystery that is Tatiana Aslanov.

Shayla Black weaves a web of intrigue with a healthy dose of spice as this story unfolds at a pace that keeps the reader firmly entrenched in its pages. You find yourself immersed in a plot that is an intense ride through the life of an old adversary and a view into the psyche of its main characters. A woman whose belief of herself changes as her memories return and she learns who she really is. You hold your breath through her fear and sense of betrayal and exhale when she lifts her chin in spite of both and soldiers on. A man who emotionally distances himself from everyone and keeps only the end game in sight. You grin as one tiny woman undoes him and your heart aches as she gradually puts him back together again. Everything culminates in an HEA that does not disappoint and shows once again the author is well deserved of her reputation in the genre.

Shayla Black is one of my go-to authors when I'm in the mood for a scorching hot and sexy read and she did not disappoint with His to Take — the perfect amount of sexy with loads of scorching buildup. This story will definitely make your blood pressure rise ;-)

His to Take is book number 9 in the Wicked Lovers series. I haven't read any of the other books in this series and thankfully I didn’t feel as though I missed out because of it. I’m confident that each of these books can be read as a stand-alone, although there are definite benefits to getting to know each of the characters from their own books in the series. I will definitely check out the rest of the Wicked Lovers books now.

The story was intriguing, the writing had great flow and the characters sucked me in. NSA Agent, Joaquin Munoz is a strong and sexy alpha, the kind of man I’d like protecting me *inserts Rawr* Bailey Benson is sweet and mysterious and she kept me wanting to know more about her story. Characters from the other books in the series also made an appearance in His to Take and now I can’t wait to go back and read their stories - Especially Sean, Mitchell and Callie’s story!

If you are looking for a sexy hot suspenseful read, look no further...His to Take, the latest in the Wicked Lovers series by Shayla Black is just what you are looking for. Ladies, you definitely do not want to miss out on Joaquin Muñoz - Mmmm mmmm <3

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--HIS TO TAKE is the ninth full length installment in Shayla Black’s adult, contemporary Wicked Lovers erotic, romance series focusing on a close knit group of friends, family and formers SEALs, FBI and NSA agents who partake in the BDSM life style. This is NSA Agent Joaquin Munoz and ballet dancer Bailey Benson’s storyline. Although HIS TO TAKE is the ninth book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty as can most of the books in this series.

Told from alternating third person points of view the storyline focuses on the search for a missing woman who disappeared twenty years earlier and is presumed dead at the hands of a terrorist cell searching for information into DNA manipulation. With what appears to be a serial killer on the hunt for all women who fit the missing female’s description, NSA Agent Joaquin Munoz disobeys the direct orders of his superiors and sets out on his own to save a woman the others believe holds the secrets to a two decades old mystery. When Bailey Benson’s profile matches all of the previous victim’s profiles, Joaquin easily locates and abducts Bailey then hides her away at Club Dominion-the BDSM club owned by Mitchell Thorpe (Theirs to Cherish #8).

The premise finds Joaquin immediately attracted to Bailey but our hero is a man who does not do relationships; does not fall in love; and has had very little contact with anyone in years. His reaction to Bailey is visceral but I didn’t quite buy into Joaquin’s growing love. He is an NSA agent whose life has been spent rescuing others and hunting terrorists. Their time spent at Club Dominion finds our hero needing to ‘spank’ Bailey for her lack of self preservation and in this the storyline takes a rather unwelcome turn for this reader. Neither Bailey nor Joaquin had ever considered the BDSM lifestyle but in the presence of the others, both have a need to partake of the action. This particular aspect of the storyline felt awkward, contrived and unnecessary, and frankly not believable. It was short lived and not without some cringe worthy moments especially when both were acting on the advice from the professional BDSM members. Joaquin’s need to punish Bailey does not sit well with the others-there is no role playing or Dom/sub action, it is purely punishment for disobeying orders.

Most, if not all, of the previous storyline couples and lovers play a secondary or supporting role as many favors are called in to help with the investigation into the number of deaths and the people hunting for Bailey Benson. Callie, Sean and Thorpe (Theirs to Cherish) prepare for their upcoming wedding and by way of a storyline role or mention, the extended and ensemble cast of characters makes for an interesting few days in isolation for Baily and Joaquin. It was nice revisiting with previous couples, lovers and their growing extended families.

The sexual situations include some BDSM, some spanking and punishment-not only for our leading couple but as part of Club Dominion’s available assets. Most of the BDSM content is voyeuristic as we are pulled into the needs of the heroes, from the previous storylines, to punish their lovers for a perceived act of betrayal or disobedience-again, these actions felt a little gratuitous and unnecessary to the overall plot. I understand that WICKED LOVERS is a series whereby all of our heroes and heroines partake in the BDSM lifestyle, but Bailey and Joaquin were completely out of their element and uncomfortable with what needed to be done.

HIS TO TAKE is a fast paced, intense and intriguing storyline. Shayla Black combines mystery and suspense, with a little bit of erotic imagery to stimulate the senses and need to read on. Revisiting old friends and previous storyline characters was a welcome addition to HIS TO TAKE. I am looking forward to many more storylines in the Wicked Lovers series.

Quick & Dirty: A murdered family, a missing girl, can he put it all together and save her before it’s too late?

Opening Sentence: “Night pressed in, along with the rage crushing his chest.”

The Review:

Joaquin is on the hunt after his friend is brutally murdered because he took a case and discovered girls were being murdered. Joaquin knows that he is running out of time to find the right woman. After coming to his family for help, he quickly finds Bailey and decides that she is the woman he is looking for. So he kidnaps her, and she is not too happy about it once she wakes up. Joaquin explains that he believes that she is Tatiana, the missing daughter of a murdered Russian scientist. Bailey doesn’t believe him until he starts to describe her dream and he tells her that’s how the murders really happened.

Bailey discovers Joaquin is hiding her in a BDSM club and despite all the danger surrounding her life she is secretly intrigued. As they both delve deeper in the BDSM community and try to unravel why someone is so threatened by what she could remember they find themselves falling in love. Will they be able to figure out all of their deepest desires and help Bailey remember what she has worked so hard to forget?

Whew! This book is hot and steamy and so good. I have reviewed a later book in this series, so some of the names seemed familiar when I was reading this one. I just don’t think the BDSM aspect was in the later book so I was little surprised by that, however, still hot and a great book. Joaquin is a part of the NSA and he overhears some chatter between two people that have a connection to his friend’s death and the client’s death as well. He knows something serious is going, but just can’t get all the pieces together. Bailey is okay, probably one of those rare instances or maybe because the book was told from his point of view, she was just kind of not filled out enough for me.

The mystery though…one never gets tired of Russians doing hinky stuff or spy things. I mean seriously, look at that FX show The Americans, we clearly love this stuff. Bailey was adopted, only she doesn’t know that or remember that fact. She does have a recurring nightmare or dream about being covered in blood and being found by a couple. I want so badly to scream some of the spoilers, but I will hold my tongue. Needless to say, I didn’t see that coming at all.

I enjoyed every minute of this book, the mystery was great, the love was good, the sex was on point. I really can’t complain at all. A great way to spend my afternoon!

Notable Scene:

“It was probably stupid, but a pang hit Bailey’s heart. He’d lost someone he must have loved dearly at a young age. How solitary had he been since? How much had he been hurting because of it? Bailey wished she could help Kata- and Joaquin- because she knew what it felt like to be without family. She knew the pain of holidays spent around a Christmas tree by herself, about passing the milestones of life and not having the people she loved to share them with.

Just like she knew that Kata was subtly asking her to help heal Joaquin. It hurt even more to shake her head.”

FTC Advisory: Berkley/Penguin provided me with a copy of His to Take. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

His to Take is the newest installment in Shayla Black’s Wicked Lovers series. It’s the story of Joaquin and Bailey.

Bailey is a ballerina with a sad childhood but nothing out of the ordinary. She grew up a lonely child with frequent nightmares and distant adoptive parents. Again, nothing out of the ordinary or so she thought until the day that Agent Joaquin Munoz kidnaps her, takes her to a BDSM club for safe keeping, than spins a tale of mass murder, Russian scientists, lost little girls and hit men. He’s also telling her he’s the good guy and here to protect her (yeah right)! As the danger, past and present collide, so do these would-be lovers. They will not only discover the truth together about what’s going on but also will discover their shared interest in the BDSM world.

So let me start with what I loved about this book…..the BDSM, bahahahahha but not the way you think. Normally when you read a BDSM story, one or both of the main characters are experienced in the world and through the story, you as the reader are introduced to the world. With His to Take, both characters are new to the world and through exploration, sweet and gentle, they both discover what works best for them. Why I love it, is that it shows that people don’t just automatically know that they swing toward this lifestyle and only by mutual agreement and communication that they can find what flips their bedroom switch. You don’t normally see this noob relationship in a book, so it was a refreshing twist.

Now on to what I wasn’t thrilled with……the story and characters. You’ll never know how much it pains me to say this and not in a good BDSM way. From the get-go, I didn’t buy Joaquin as an agent or any sort of authority figure, let alone one that was a highly trained NSA Agent or one that’s gone AWOL based on his morals. I also didn’t buy Bailey as a ballerina. The only thing we are told is that she’s a ballerina with a possible eating disorder (she’s always bitching about food). She also doesn’t talk much about dance, the love of it or the competition. There’s literally one scene where she says she wants to dance to clear her head and that’s about it. Besides the titles of the jobs that each main character holds, I didn’t feel that they were fleshed out well. I felt this was a real miss.

Next, the mystery felt a bit predictable, like I’ve read it or watched it many, many times before. Again, I felt this could have been full of suspense with twists and turns but it just didn’t. I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the cheesy, cliché lines and I’m sorry Agent Joaquin must be the worst agent in the NSA. I wouldn’t trust him to watch my used bubble gum.

Don’t get me wrong, it was still a good read and for fans of the books, we did get a few treats as well as visit with some of the previous books characters. It was a nice addition to the series, just not my favorite and I felt it had a few missed opportunities.

I definitely recommend the series as a whole and think you'll enjoy it!

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

What can I say about His To Take by Shayla Black? First off, other than being wickedly delicious and filled with suspense and the sensual BDSM we enjoy from Miss Black's Wicked Lover books is that the characters are a bit different compared to previous characters in this series. However, I am NOT saying this is in anyway a bad thing, in fact I found the characters beyond likable and may well be my new favorites in the series. We got the sexy yet stern, Joaquin who wants to save another woman from getting tortured and killed like his friend had. He risks EVERYTHING, including his job to protect Bailey the sweet and seductive ballerina who is the next target from the horrendous bad guys that are after her for secrets she doesn't quite remember. After taking her to Club Dominion, things get heated between captor and captive and they both learn a few things about themselves that they didn't realize were inside them the whole time.
I loved how intricate and well woven His To Take was. It had the perfect blend of suspense and romance. The love scenes were both sensual and deliciously erotic. I LOVED how we got not one, but TWO characters new to BDSM. Luckily we have some previous Wicked Lover characters that both guide and teach the newbies what they need to know. I was also amazed because both characters have great instincts when it comes to BDSM play but neither one has any issues taking some guidance from others to make sure everything is safe and pleasurable.
I really liked Bailey. She is a wonderfully talented ballerina with a body I envy. She is also a sweet submissive. She just doesn't realize it until arriving and exploring the popular BDSM club she is being kept in. Now Joaquin is a very stern man. He also happens to be a Dom. It takes him experiencing feelings and instincts he never thought he had, until Bailey came into his life. After talking things out with the club's owner, he starts to realize himself, that he always liked the control in the bedroom but he never gave much thought to it until Bailey shows her almost bratty and fiery side. This is when things heat up and become more then a job to Joaquin.
Sex between Bailey and Joaquin are inspiring, sexy, and oh so good as they both explore the different dynamics in BDSM. Not only do we get this sinfully addicting romance, but when danger gets closer, the action intensifies and the suspense becomes edgy, just the way I enjoy these books!
His To Take was SO GOOD that I had to make sure I gave it the rating it deserved. I thought this story was well written with some sexy as sin scenes and a edgy storyline that giving this story ANYTHING less than a FIVE SHOOTING STARS was impossible! His To Take was worth EVERY. SINGLE. STAR. I gave it. Bottom line. This book was sincerely good and I enjoyed reading every page! Well done Miss Black. Well done.

So I wasn't huge fan of this book. Which makes me sad because I love Shayla Black. I especially love the Wicked Lovers series. I have been reading them since Jack in book one. But this one just didn't do it for me.

It was insta-love, which I was fine with. I tend to believe insta-love when they are in this dramatic setting. But that is about the only thing that I believe. The heroine Bailey was an OK character, nothing outstanding. She didn't do anything stupid which made me extremely happy. I was for sure she would try to run away and take care of everything on her own despite the highly trained people surrounding her, but I was pleasantly proven wrong when it didn't happen. Yay!! But other than that I can't tell you much about her. She is a ballerina who is inexperienced. Otherwise I had a lot of repetition from her. She was constantly going on about how Joaquin doesn't want her despite what everyone actually says they see. I think that was a majority of the book.

Then there is Bailey remembering everything. I may be WAY wrong, but she was five ... FIVE!! And all of a sudden she is remembering minute details. Everything. I just didn't believe it. I also didn't believe how fast the serial killer was moving. I mean it takes more than a day to get across the country. There was a lot of leaps made. Also, how is the NSA not worried about LOSS ... a group trying to separate from the Union? It's just very far fetched for a lot of moments that seem to be made to make it more dramatic. I would rather have realistic then enhanced.

Usually Shayla's books are super steamy and very sexy in just the right amount. The back of the book led me to think more would be happening. This was a VERY tame book for Shayla. I wish there was more time for Joaquin and Bailey to explore at Dominion and be more sexual, but it was very vanilla and just a lot of thoughts. I wanted the sexiness that she usually had in her books rather than just thinking.

I did enjoy getting caught up with the characters. It has been a while and quite a few books in the series, so it was nice to be reintroduced to everyone. I was, hoever, getting a little tired of hearing about Thorpe, Sean, and Callie. Especially Callie's "sassy looks."

Overall this just didn't feel like a typical Shayla Black book. It was really dragging about half way through. I plowed through the first 150 pages and then drastically slowed down and struggled to finish. But I love Shayla and I will hands down buy the next book from her with no questions asked. I can't wait for the next story. She is constantly introducing us to new characters that I look forward to learning more about. I definitely can't wait to read about Axel. *fingers crossed he gets a book*

I hope you still take a chance with this book. It's a decent book that will be important to read to move on in the series. Enjoy!!

IN REALTA' 3 STELLE E MEZZO

I might update this more as I get done with the book, but for the most part, this is the review I'm going to stick with.

First off, I feel bad. From the reviews I've read, it seems like most people really enjoyed this book. And I feel somewhat guilty for not getting much out of it. It's disappointing. I'm a HUGE fan of the Wicked Lovers series. Even some of the books I wasn't sure I would like, I've ended up enjoying. But this one was just...meh.

I didn't get any sense of chemistry between the two main characters. Points where I thought that Bailey should be freaking out, she wasn't - - and Joaquin didn't really seem like a Dominant, just someone who wanted to "spice up the bedroom." Most of the other main characters in previous stories are either Doms - in the sense that they live the lifestyle totally and it's a complete part of their being - or they are just Alpha men. I'm fine with either one, but I'm upset that Joaquin, as a character, couldn't decide which one he was. To me, that made him look unreliable and shaky as a character.

Secondly, there was a LOT less sex in this book. There was a LOT less BDSM in this book. (Spanking is about as heavy-handed as it gets. Pun intended.) If you've ready the other eight books in the series, I'm sure this will be a shock. While I'm not looking for "book porn" from this series, I enjoy the steamy scenes. I don't go to this series for exciting suspense. (And even then, the serial killer/terrorists-out-to-kill-the-heroine subplot wasn't really engaging or interesting in my opinion.)

I'm sure I'll still probably read the next book in this series, but I sincerely hope it resolves some of the "blah-ness" that I found so prevalent in this installment.

I must bow to the greatness that is Shayla Black! His to Take the 9th book in the Wicked Lovers series is one of my favorites of the series. Shayla pulled me into the book from the start and there was no turning back and no sleep until the book was devoured. She pulls you into the world by updating you on previous characters and couples lives who you have grown to love if you are a follower of this series. The world of Wicked Lovers comes alive as she keeps all the amazing characters to life by showing you how their lives have changed and progressed since last reading about them. This book is thrilling and you FINALLY get to meet the elusive Joaquin Munoz and introduced to Baily Benson a beautiful ballerina who captivates your heart with her strength, her courage, her talent and her beauty.

Joaquin has a good heart but starts out on the wrong foot with Bailey. To save her life and keep everyone they know that is involved safe is an adventure and page turner in itself. You can’t help but want to throttle Joaquin and tell him what an idiot he is and several times I had odd looks from friends or family as I am griping about how Joaquin is being an idiot. I did not feel like I was reading this book I felt like I was in the world of the Wicked Lovers and couldn’t stop reading because I had to know what was going to happen. I loved that the Club Dominion and the characters from there are back and you are also included in how they have been doing and what is in store for them as well.

I was completely absorbed by this book it was so well written that I cried, laughed and shared in the happiness of the characters as well as their fears. I would sometimes even forget that I was reading a fictional book and was feared for those that I loved. This book has a great plot that continues to unravel and engage you. The only complaint that I can say is that I was sad when I finished the book. I wasn’t ready to leave the Wicked Lovers world that Shayla Black has so vividly brought to life!

In this book we get to meet Kata's missing brother Joaquin Muñoz is searching for a little girl who vanished twenty years ago with a dangerous secret. Since Bailey Benson fits the profile, Joaquin abducts the beauty and whisks her to the safety of Club Dominion before anyone can silence her for good. I love reading this series and although this book was set in a BDSM club the few sex scenes lacked some of the heat in the books in this series. Bailey who Joaquin kidnapped terrified but when her he demands information about her past she’s stunned. Are her horrific visions actually distant memories of a past she didn't know that she had. Bailey is being hunted by radical extremist groups who wants information about her fathers research these are the same people who tried to kill Callie and who killed her family. I loved that the book had updates on all the other couples from this series and everyone seems to be having babies or in Logan and Tara's case they just had twins. Joaquin has let the death of his father stunt his emotional growth he as never gotten close to other including his family because of loss and Bailey all she knows is loss. I was glad that this book had a happy ending. This book was very well written (read) as I listened to this book on audio. I also thought that narrator did a really good job. This was a good book and I love this series.
