Life can be hard . . . but food, faith, and fun are three amazing gifts from God to satisfy and refresh us every day. Yet all too often, we focus primarily on what we can not do, and what we should not eat—which leaves us feeling deprived and depressed. Instead of being energized by following Christ, we waste our days feeling bored and burnt-out on our faith, while battling the guilt that comes from craving the food that we love. In If You Have a Craving, I Have a Cure, best-selling author and speaker Sheri Rose Shepherd encourages you to embark on a new adventure with faith and food. She reveals the food coaching tips that enabled her to lose over 50 pounds and keep it off, and shares fun recipes in celebration of the healthy, delicious food our God created for us to enjoy. It’s time to let go of guilt, grab hold of grace, and recapture the life God craves for us to live! “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8)

My Review of, 'If You Have A Craving I Have A Cure'
Sheri Rose Shepherd is a Bible Life coach as well as an award-winning author of many inspirational books including the 'His Princess' series (a series designed to help women see themselves the way God sees them, as a daughter of the King). Sheri came from a life full of trials, not having become a christian until her mid twenties. You can imagine that after finally becoming a Christian how she must have struggled to let go of her past and see herself for who God made her to be, and not how her past made her feel. You can tell that after all she has been through that Sheri has a passion to help bring you out of the muck of everyday life and help you to not only see, but to become the person that God made you to be.
For some of us the struggles in our life can be as simple as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, both physically and spiritually. As Sheri puts in the her book 'If You Have A Craving I Have A Cure', "Too many times we are so focused on what we are not allowed to do and what we should not eat that we end up feeling deprived and depressed, as if following Christ were more of a burden then a blessing." What is the real reason we give up on living a healthy lifestyle? It's almost the same reason we give up on maintaining a healthy spiritual life with Christ. We feel the restrictions are too much and end up depriving us, yet we do not realize that there is so much more to gain from living a healthy lifestyle.
In her book Sheri walks you through the struggles we all face when trying to maintain our healthy lifestyles. Each chapter explains our struggles and counters them with healthy new life recipes for our lifestyles and healthy food recipes to replace those comfort foods in life we struggle to let go of. The new life recipes contain activities and sometimes even scriptures followed by prayers we can pray to help us overcome our struggles. I was excited with the thought of getting to reread this book and actually apply each of these activities to my own life. I was even more excited when I got to the recipes at the end of each chapter. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the recipes weren't far off from food choices most people would make except that a creative change in a few of the ingredients made them healthier. There was even dessert recipes for chocolate truffles and chocolate dip!
What I found so inspiring was how Sheri used the food recipes to bring us closer to God and in doing so teaches us a whole new respect for the food we eat. She uses the chapter before, such as with the dessert recipes, to teach you ways in which you can still enjoy these sweet treats without over indulging in them. For example, if you choose to make the 'Midnight Chocolate Truffles' go ahead and ask your husband to make these together. And in the end of the chapter if you find yourself struggling with a craving Sheri gives a little reminder such as this, "No amount of riches can buy you peace of mind or a home in heaven". To go even further the end of each chapter also provides you with a QR code that will take you to a site where you can find more health, weight loss, or kitchen coaching tips from Sheri Rose. She really helps you to see food in a new light by inspiring you with God's word to take on the challenge to live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy it!
As a scripture she gives you in the beginning of the book puts it, "It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life." -Ecclesiastes 5:18
-I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House in exchange of an honest review
Tyndale House publishers sent me a copy of If You Have a Craving I Have a Cure by Sheri Rose Shepherd. I have only read one healthy living book by a Christian author, so I was very excited to jump in and learn some practical tips on healthy eating and living. This book focuses on fun and refreshing ways to be energized and healthy in both our body and spirit. There are also one hundred recipes that cover a variety of cravings you may have, from spicy to salty and even chocolate.
THE PROS:
This is an incredibly quick read. There are about 200-pages, but 100 recipes, so the actual book is quite short. I liked that it was easy and quick to read, because it made reading the book manageable and enjoyable (I usually get pretty bored about half-way through a non-fiction read).
I really enjoyed the fact that Sheri focused on our relationship with God in this book. If you're going to read If You Have a Craving I Have a Cure, I'd recommend reading one chapter per week and actually engaging in the material. She gives you great tips to try, and the obvious point is that you should take your time and try them! I think if you engage with this book and use it as a practical tool in your life, you'll see results in every aspect of your life.
Finally, the recipes are really great. They are right up my alley because they include healthy, whole foods, but they are not difficult to prepare. The ingredient lists are also not too long.
THE CONS:
Throughout the book there are many scripture passages, which is a great thing! My only problem is that when you take one verse from the Bible and make it fit in with what you're trying to say it can strip the verse of it's authentic meaning. If you are reading a verse in the book and you don't quite get the connection, please pick up your Bible and read the entire chapter surrounding that verse. It's important we don't quote scripture out of context, and that would be my one big issue with this book. It doesn't do that all the time, but sometimes it does.
One other thing I took issue with was a very small suggestion that Sheri makes. It might seem "nit-picky", but I have to say it because I'm a pastor's wife and it kind of hit a nerve with me. One of the suggestions Sheri makes in a chapter on change is that you may want to consider changing churches. She suggests that there are lots of great churches out there and you should not be compelled to attend just one. I think one of the biggest issues in our culture is that we tend to crave something new and fresh, and hop on the newest church trend as soon as it hits our city. We leave our churches so easily, without working out the issues we might have, or simply because we feel our church has become stale or too familiar to us. Please friends, don't take this suggestion too lightly. It hurts churches when we hop from one to the other without making lasting investments in our church community. You wouldn't leave your marriage as soon as it became stale or wasn't giving us exactly what we wanted, so why leave the church?
IS THIS BOOK FOR YOU?
If you're looking for a book to encourage you in your faith and health, I'd recommend this. It's not a book for someone who is looking for a quick-fix or revolutionary diet. This is a lifestyle book, and you'll need to have the basics of healthy living.
I also would say that if you're looking for a book purely on health, this book is not going to help you much. Sheri focuses a lot of time on spiritual health, so you may be disappointed if that's not what you're expecting (or pleasantly surprised).
If you love cooking and are looking for new recipes, the book is worth a buy for the recipes alone!
In light of the approaching new year, I thought I would share with you an incredible book, I had the privileged to get to read and review.
It’s Sheri Rose Shepherd, best selling author of The His Princess Series, If You Have a Craving, I Have a Cure.
If you do have cravings, which I know we all do, then this book is for you!
The back cover of the book says that this it is a fresh encounter with three amazing gifts from God -food, faith, and fun!
She is not exaggerating when she says this! Sheri did a fabulous job at relating food, faith, and relationships with the one who truly can fulfill our cravings.
Sheri shares some hilarious moments from her life throughout the book. She had be laughing in every chapter! My favorite story is from chapter 7. It has to do with a half a bottle of cayenne pepper and tomato juice. I gasped with surprise then belted out with laughter after reading her story! You’re going to have to read it yourself to find out why. I just can’t give it away!!
My favorite parts of her book are the real life applications she suggests to bring God into my life. They are easy, enjoyable, and rewarding. I began implementing them into my life beginning at chapter one. One of her New Life Recipes she shares is to write notes to Jesus. She suggests to stick post-it notes on my mirror or by my bed when I have a craving to love and to express that love towards heaven. My desire is to turn to God to be filled with love so that I can give that love to others. By lifting my praise and love to God my relationship will deepen.
The food recipes are wonderful! I’m so excited to try the Banana Bliss and the Honey-Baked Almond Brittle! I have already tried the Raspberry Peach Smoothie and it is incredible! I am going to make the Creamy Fruit Salad and bring it to a party. Many of her recipes use similar ingredients which help with the cost of groceries.
I received If You Have a Craving, I Have a Cure by Sheri Rose Shepherd compliments of Tyndale House Publishers for my honest review and highly recommend this to any one who has a craving for food and desires a deeper relationship with God. Sheri reveals all her tips that helped her lose over 50 pounds and keep them off. Her alternatives to common cravings help others satisfy their desire while staying healthy. This book gets 5 stars in my eyes! It will make a great resource for me as I change my lifestyle to honor God with the temple he has provided for me. I look forward to viewing food as an enjoyable creation that he made for me!
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did! I am off to go make some Pure Fudge Love. This one will be a favorite for those chocolate lovers in my family!
A fresh encounter with three amazing gifts from God - food, faith, and fun!
Do you find yourself constantly thinking about what you should not eat, or the things you cannot do? We've all been there, and it leaves us feeling deprived and depressed. Instead of being energized by following Christ, we waste our days feeling bored and burned-out on our faith, while battling the guilt that comes from craving food and other things we enjoy.
In If You Have a Craving, I Have a Cure, bestselling author and speaker Sheri Rose Shepherd encourages you to embark on a new adventure with faith and food. She reveals the coaching tips that enabled her to lose over fifty pounds and keep them off, shares specific alternatives to common cravings, and offers fun recipes (for food and for life) in celebration of the healthy meals and activities our God created for us to enjoy. It's time to let go of guilt, grab hold of grace, and recapture the life God craves for you to live!
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! ~ Psalm 34:8
I love books that draw me in the instant I read the first line. This book is one of those. From the very first moment that I read the title of this book, I was captivated. I'm always searching for books that books that will help me with daily life and struggles; and what better than a book that will guide you in cooking healthy with more than 100 recipes that are divided into categories of what you crave, along with Biblical verses to encourage you daily.
Sheri Rose Shepherd not only encourages the reader to eat healthier, but also to exercise, hydrate the body and soul, eliminate excess in life (pray so that God will reveal to you what you should let go of), and to power up with PRAYER.
I guarantee that you will enjoy this book as much as I did....specially because there are so many wonderful recipes to try (I have yet to try). One of my favorite tips she offered were to write notes to Jesus and to put post- it notes on a mirror as a reminder to become healthier.

Are you looking for some fresh ways to revitalize your faith, improve your health, and enjoy life more in the New Year? If so, check out Sheri Rose Shepherd’s new book, If You Have A Craving, I Have A Cure. In this book, Sheri shares a number of easy-to-implement coaching tips to help you live out your faith and over 100 recipes she used to lose more than 50 pounds!
The thing I liked most about Sheri’s book is that I found her highly relatable as an author. Sheri writes in an easy-to-read, highly personable style. She opens each themed chapter with a personal anecdote and structures the chapters as follows:
•Soul Food contains an opening scripture and a brief devotional. •New Life Recipes provide scriptures and tips to help you change your life. •Power Up With Prayer closes with scripture and prayer. •Recipes contain selections that relate to the chapter’s theme. •Taste of Truth provides a final thought on the topic. •A QR code provides access to additional health, weight loss and kitchen coaching tips.
The thing I feel is the book’s biggest weakness is that, theologically speaking, the book is lightweight. While Sheri liberally shares scripture throughout her book (good), the verses are selected to fit the coaching point she is making, not to shed light on the verse’s actual intended meaning in context (bad).
If you are looking for a serious bible study, this isn’t the book for you. But, if you are a time-pressed Christian who is more interested in finding some positive ways to incorporate Scripture into your life than in deep, theological nuances, check it out – you’ll probably enjoy it!
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for review purposes. I was not compensated for this review or required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
If You Have a Craving, I Have a Cure: Experience Food, Faith, and Fulfillment a Whole New Way by Sheri Rose Shepherd. I really enjoy anything that Sheri has to write and this book was no exception. I had no idea what this book was really about or how she would tie food in with faith. To my delight I discovered that this book is completely full of healthy recipes and quotes that Sheri writes to encourage readers on a daily basis. This is not a devotional, but it could defintely be used as one. Each chapter is about a different important part of our life, not necessarily about food but about God's part in our lives. Sheri includes tips on how to be healthy as she has lost over 50 pounds and grown in her relationship with God. This book is easy to read and understand and I highly reccomend this book, even if you already eat healthy!
With her many recipe's I can't wait to try the corn chowder, spinach cream soup, or chamomile vanilla ice cream!!
"No food is as satisfying as the energy to enjoy life."

"I received this book for free from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for an honest review."
Quick to read and forever to enjoy is how I would describe "If you have a craving, I have a cure"!
This book contains chapters ie: Craving more energy, Craving some spice in your life, Craving healthy food to satisfy your children, Craving an adventure and so many more satisfying and worthwhile chapters along with many recipes. Includes Power up with Prayer devotions and New Life Recipes that incorporates suggestions that relate to the chapters that you can apply to your life to enhance the quality. So many healthy yummy recipes, bible verses and reflection fill this worthwhile, creative and inspiring book.
I always look to the author to provide nourishing food recipes that I can feel good about serving my family. Over the Christmas holidays I prepared Homemade Cranberry Sauce and it was a huge hit, many compliments! Other pages were dogearred with plans to introduce into our meals starting this month. The overall message of this book is inspiring, entertaining and faith challenging. I will highly recommend this book to others and especially to those who are looking for new healthy recipes intermingled with faith to start the New Year and beyond. I received a complimentary copy from Tyndale House Publishers for this blog tour.
There are many books about healthy living and eating habits on the market. Some are faith-based, as this book by Sheri Rose Shepherd. I've read most of them.
What I liked about this book is Shepherd's simplicity and breakdown. She has a chapter for every kind of craving you may have. Sweets. Salty. Spicy. Craving more energy? There's even a chapter on that. After a brief and interesting personal experience relating to the craving topic, Shepherd offers a New Life Recipe--a tip and a scripture to go along. She also shares a prayer and actual recipes for each chapter. I'm an extremely picky eater so many of the recipes did not appeal to me, but a few did and I jotted them down on recipe cards. With over 100+ recipes, you're sure to find something you like that would be also be fun to try.
Shepherd's goal is to help the reader understand that food is from God and it's meant to be enjoyed without the guilt, but He's meant to be enjoyed even more.
I appreciate Tyndale House Publishing for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
If you have a Craving, I Have a Cure" is the new paperback released by Sheri Rose Shepherd. This is the perfect book for New Year's. Each chapter has an opening story of her own life experience, followed by 'Soul Food' which is a bible verse and story to follow the verse. Then she adds 'New Life Recipes' which are not recipes for food, but steps to take to improve whatever area of life she is talking about in that particular chapter. She then has prayer and actual recipes to end each chapter. The recipes are healthy, but she doesn't get nutty about it. This book is a good one for someone looking to make suttle changes and to get a healthier lifestyle that is also obtainable for a long period of time. She talks about relaxation, sleep, salt intake, sugar intake, excercising, prayer, romance, adventure, etc. There are many aspects of life that relate to health besides the diet one. Shepherd trys to not only improve health, but also make it enjoyable as well as doable. I received this book for free from Tyndale Publishing Blog Network.
Sheri Rose Shepherd, "If You Have a Craving, I have a Cure", ISBN 978-1-4143-6692, Tyndale House Publishers
Life is not easy. Sheri Rose Shepherd, noted author and life coach, knows that first hand. In this 202 page book from Tyndale House Publishers, Shepherd is full of encouragement to her readers to combine the way we eat with the teaching of the Bible.
Sounds like something that has been written before - probably has, many times over, by Shepherd offers a fresh outlook on the reasons we are still addicted to food and why we still need to do diets. We are not focusing on the right things.
We look at what we can't eat and can't do, and we don't look at what it is that God gives us to enjoy. Shepherd also gives her secret to losing weight - she herself lost 50 pounds.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8)
I picked up this book because of the title, If You Have a Craving, I Have a Cure, and because of my, uhmm, age it seems that lately I have been having cravings for foods that are not healthy. After reading Sheri Shepherd's book I was impressed with how easy and natural the foods are...it really is just eating foods that are good for you. Included in this book are recipes doable and quotes to keep you on track. My favorite chapter is chapter 13, Craving Something Sweet. But more than food this is about a relationship with our Savior and not using food in place of our emptiness for God's love. This is not a Bible Study or a weight loss plan, even though, Sheri did lose 50 pounds, this is about "getting" your spiritual life in order and not using food as a crutch.
If You Have a Craving, I Have a Cure is much different than I expected. It’s more than a recipe book in that it not only feeds your tummy it feeds your soul.
Each chapter begins with a craving and includes pertaining spiritual verses, recipes, and personal stories. Many of the recipes are simple and sound delicious. Some I’ve never heard of. And thank goodness—don’t include processed foods.
This book is chock-full of a hundred recipes that provide better alternatives to your cravings than what you might be used to. A quick, encouraging read. I can’t wait to try out the recipes.
The title tells it all! We all have different cravings - for chocolate or energy, for fun or romance, the list goes on. Sheri Shepherd mixes Biblical verses and her own personal stories with delicious, healthy recipes to address these cravings. Although I haven't yet tried one of the recipes, they look yummy and I can't wait to try them! But, right now I'm on vacation and doing a lot of reading but no cooking!
nteresting story of how ...... came to love herself, her culture and history. It is upsetting, yet common for girl in particular to feel that they must fit in with the majority. Especially if the only this that visually appears to separate you is the tint to your skin and your name. Being of African-American, a group of people who's history and culture was literally beaten out of them, I cant understand how she could feel like an outsider among the elite she was growing up with.
I am a Christian and it drives me nuts when someone takes scripture out of context to sell a diet book. I am sorry but I will not recommend this book. When I see John 4:14 which is about Jesus only and not our physical health being used as a catalyst to jump from Jesus to us drinking pure water I am annoyed and angry. Its about Jesus as the water of life not pure water for us to drink.
