I found this book very helpful in understanding the basic principles of reading. It isn’t too long, provides helpful strategies and assessment tips for each stage of reading development, and answers a lot of questions I had about reading instruction. I especially appreciated the tips and warnings for teaching reading to ELLs.

A rich and informative book for reading teachers and coaches. Packed with so much research notes! I’ll definitely re-read this once I’ve gone through my other SoR literature. I’m sure I’ll appreciate it even more!

Even after going through a teaching credential program and a graduate program in reading education, I learned a lot from this book.

We used this book in a reading PDE Class I took. There was a lot of good information on how to teach reading effectively. I am now taking a core reading class and the same author wrote the book we are now using too. It makes a lot of sense for how we learn to read and the best way to assist those who struggle in reading!
