David Martyn Lloyd-Jones was a Welsh Protestant minister, preacher and medical doctor who was influential in the Reformed wing of the British evangelical movement in the 20th century. For almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London. Lloyd-Jones was strongly opposed to Liberal Christianity, which had become a part of many Christian denominations; he regarded it as aberrant. He disagreed with the broad church approach and encouraged evangelical Christians (particularly Anglicans) to leave their existing denominations. He believed that true Christian fellowship was possible only amongst those who shared common convictions regarding the nature of the faith.

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones was married to Bethan Lloyd-Jones

Totally amazing. Every time I read Dr. Lloyd-Jones, he puts fire into my soul, and strength for the battle. Of course it's not Lloyd - Jones, but through his faithful exposition of God's word.
I love DMLJ for three things that always come through his sermons, namely, it seems to me...
1. The sovereignty of God
2. The centrality of the Cross
3. The responsibility of man.
We are called to trust God, but not in a passive way, but actively to fulfill our responsibility, to be up and doing, to trust God but keep our powder dry.
Praise God, or rather, bendigedig!

A wonderfully encouraging work about the realities described in Ephesians 6. I can’t imagine anyone other than MLJ, a theologian as well as a medical doctor, who could write with such a holistic understanding of man and such a firm grasp of the scriptures. I read this book slowly and devotionally and am thankful for its instruction.

I was reading this for a good while... slow reader, though. However, this was a REALLY good book! I would definitely recommend it for some solid exposition of the Word- it was jam-packed of good reminders, analogies, practical applications, and exhortations. So, so good!

I had not read something by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones previously, and I did not realize he was a prolific writer! He is really great, though. I would guess probably anything by him would be worth the time! Really inspired and well-written. Flows well, written with passion and with authenticity, not posturing or with flowery-ness. Love that.

It's also from the 70s, which is probably largely the reason for that! People were less "put on", as my grandmother would say, than they are today by trying to sound all inspirational rather than first being inspired by the Holy Spirit! Let Him guide our teaching! Wonderful.

Anybody who is somewhat familiar with Martyn Lloyd-Jones (MLJ) knows of his skill in expounding the Scriptures. This last summer, I felt the need to level up personally on what it meant to Be Strong in the Lord and fighting our Spiritual fight, and MLJ was the first place I turned. He brought new clarity on our spiritual armor in a way I never have had. I will need to read this book again to fully absorb it.

Some of MLJ's illustrations and cultural references are out of date, but that is not the majority of the book. Also, there are portions of his exposition when he brings a huge amount of Scripture to bear to the point where he seems to have lost focus on the original passage. That, I know, is more of a stylistic opinion.

Great series. He’s more of an expositor who engages in topical rabbit chases while maintaining sound exegesis. Great for devotional reading.

Solid explanation, but reiterates a bit too much; as one other reviewer mentioned, rabbit holes are too common

Outstanding. This was my second time reading the book. It contains much practical advice for dealing with sin and the attacks of Satan, all based on rock-solid theology.

I read around 3/4 of this book, grabbing the sections, relevant for a recent sermon series.
