That God loves us is the most profound truth in the universe. Experiencing this love has the potential to answer every question, solve every problem, and satisfy the deepest yearnings of the heart. So why are many people who believe this still unable to fully utilize the power of God's love in their personal lives? In this probing book, Dr. David Jeremiah reveals that not fully understanding and appreciating every critical dimension of God's love can lead to missed opportunities to experience His love. He explains how even the so-called negative dimension of God's actions--hell, prohibitive commandments, pain and suffering in the world--can only be rightly understood by viewing them in light of God's true love.
Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.
As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.
In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.
Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.
Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.
As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.
Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.
Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.
Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.
Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God
Wow what a great book! Feeling alone or not loved as much as you want? You can learn so much from this book!
The author, David Jeremiah is a preacher in a church in California. He does have a television program but this book proves that he is also a great author! He writes in a very loving manner. The book flows well and is easy to read and understand. I liked the references and stories and thought they went perfect with the point he was trying to get across to the reader.
I gave this book 5/5 stars. I liked the concept of the book and thought it was well written. You will put the book down with a better understanding of God’s love and how unconditional it really is! Understanding God’s love will help you when you do feel alone or don’t feel loved by those close to you. This is a must read for all Christians!
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
This book has few nuggets, but the chapter on the prodigal son is golden. I found myself skimming a lot, but the retelling of this timeless parable was worth reading a second time.
Definitely ties up all the loose ends in my “theology” of the Love of God. We often KNOW things intellectually, but lack to KNOW them experientially, and confidently. David Jeremiah expertly weaves the entire Gospel into experiences which are relatable and easily understood. I feel with this book, that I understand a little better what it means to be LOVED by God. Read it, stop suffering in that area where you carry so many burdens. Sometimes lack of knowledge is the issue, other times we have the knowledge but it has not clicked into place yet. This makes it all click into place!
I began watching David Jeremiah on TV a couple months ago, and enjoyed his sermons so much that I requested this book from the library. Very good read. If you're needing a book that focuses on God's love, this is a great one to start with. I'd also recommend any of Dr. Jeremiah's books - especially the ones regarding the end times.
*audiobook* I usually try not to curse in regards to book reviews, however, this fucking book. This was easily one of the if not the most ridiculous books I've ever encountered. Allow me to give some back story into why I read this in the first place; maybe years ago Aunt and Uncle saw that I was wearing a ring with a pentacle on it and decided I needed saving, so they gifted me this book. About a decade later I have finally gotten around to reading it. Boy oh boy this fucking book man. One of my biggest red flags about this book is the fact that there is AN ENTIRE CHAPTER dedicated to why it's not only okay, but good to beat your kids. Uhm no. One part that I truly just laughed through was when the author was explaining all the commandments and when "though shall not kill" came about, our author states that hateful thoughts count as killing and just... LMFAO I'm so going to hell. In summary, beat your kids, forgive everyone (including God for putting you through hard things in life, because everything you go through God does because he loves you), oh and God loves you...which you can tell because you only torture people if you love them???? what the actual fuck is this book.
Too long. Dr. Jeremiah is doctrinally sound as I expected of him, but he takes too long to say what he has to say. However this could be a good approach for wounded Christians. When you're hurting you can't get too much reassurance of God's love.
I'd be concerned that some readers of this book would be turned off and give up before the end of the second chapter, "God Loved You Before You Were Born". The fact that Dr. Jeremiah felt the need to clarify that the chapter's not about abortion adds to my suspicion that he knew he was expending too many words on that topic.
People tend to already have strong views about abortion one way or another. If they agree with the author he's wasting time preaching to the choir. Worse, readers might sense more condemnation than love, which defeats the whole purpose of this book.
It's a shame. I think many people resist the gospel because of misunderstandings about God's character or about sin or about church. I'm always on the lookout for books to recommend to seekers or new believers.
Like the book, this note was “written for everyone.” My thanks to those outside the church that take the time to read it. Please wish me luck regarding the commitment outlined below. To those inside the church; the prayer line is open. May you all have a happy, healthy, and blessed New Year.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39-39, NIV).
A section of this book was dedicated to the passage of Scripture above and it really got me thinking about 2012. There is a constant battle between self-sufficiency that promotes the arrogance and pride required for people to tear themselves away from even the thought of dependency on God and the lows of doubt and despair that could set in regarding God’s love for those that call on His Name while their faith is shaken (or falls apart in some cases). I represented the latter group in 2012. Long story short, I expect a certain amount of friction with and from the world around me, but in Late February of 2012 Eve and I both were betrayed at critical and vulnerable moments in our lives. We both let our guard down and were promptly stabbed in the back–repeatedly– by people that we trusted as committed Christians [a.k.a. believers] that were [ostensibly] there to help us through a few challenges we had been dealing with. Fortunately, these challenges were not with each other directly, but they did affect us both as a couple. I am happy to report that, in the aftermath of this betrayal, we will be fine. I also see the need to point out that, I became very adept at spotting pretenders a long time ago. These people were that good and, naturally, have a whole lot of other folks fooled.
I withdrew from just about all people with a reaffirmed understanding of the following: The vast majority of people on this planet are of full of crap; the vast majority of the remainder are absolutely full of crap; a small percentage of people are actually honest about their crap; and only a teeny tiny sliver of people try to fix their own crap. I only have respect for the last two groups, but I suspect that those that think themselves qualified to [help] fix other people’s crap reside in the second group since they refuse to remove the planks from their own eyes before examining the specks in the eyes of others. Such people are not to be trusted under any circumstances whatsoever–though they are often careful not to reveal their true colors until there is little that can be done about it. (Yes, their bull crap still annoys me to this day.) Something tells me that I am going to spend the rest of my life refining this framework because I still have to live in this world and get a few things done while in it.
Pastor David Jeremiah’s book was released on October 4, 2012. Something moved me to an early commitment to get it, but I did not finish it until today. I have appreciated Pastor Jeremiah’s exposition of God’s love for all people–especially the section taken from the Scripture noted above. I also appreciated the insertion of two briefly stated balancing points. First, while it is impossible for a person to separate themselves from God’s love, that fact does not give people carte blanche to act like complete fools just because it may suit them and still be “good to go.” Sooner or later, one way or another, there will be consequences for adventures in stupidity. Second, and this has been a little harder for me to work through, people can pay a high price just for playing ball by God’s rules to do what is right in His sight. This is attached to the ageless question of why bad things happened to good people. For clarification, I know hardship can and does result from being a stand up person, but trust betrayed really gets under my skin.
Pastor Jeremiah made many excellent points that served as a series of solid reminders of truths that are dismissed as magical thinking by some or easily taken for granted over time by others. I am not going to claim that I was completely lifted out of the doldrums and set afire with a new lease on life by reading through it once, but it has helped to “control the bleeding” so I am better today than I was yesterday–even at the thought of running into those clowns in public as I have on six separate occasions since March 2012 (one of which at my church)! I am entering into 2013 with a deeper understanding of Jesus’ statement to his disciples as recorded in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (KJV) as well as the second half of 1 John 4:4, “greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world” (KJV). I have committed to reading more Scripture and spending more time in prayer in 2013 than I have in any previous single year of the 10 years that I have been a believer. That will be an easy mark from last year, but I have a ways to go when compared to other years. I figure that only good things can come from such a commitment.
Pastor Jeremiah presents a balanced message that was written for any interested person that wishes to better understand God’s love and His love’s relevance to us all. While theologically sound, I dare say it is also very accessible because Pastor Jeremiah was not theologically dense at the same time. If you have ever wondered about the intricacies of God’s love for all people, I highly recommend this book as a place to start.
A TRIED AND TRUE MESSAGE OF GOD'S LOVE IS FOUND FROM OUR AUTHOR IN THIS BOOK. BUT, DO WE REALLY UNDERSTAND AND COMPREHEND WHAT THAT MEANS? THIS BOOK WILL GIVE YOU THE ANSWERS ALONG WITH QUOTES, BIBLE VERSES AND PERSONAL TESTIMONIES ON HOW GOD'S LOVE HAS CHANGED THE LIVES OF PEOPLE AND CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE. INCLUDED IS A CHAPTER ABOUT GOD LOVING US BEFORE WE ARE BORN, A DEFINITIVE ARGUMENT FOR THE UNBORN CHILD. ALSO IN THE BOOK ARE IMPORTANT TOPICS OF THE DISCIPLINE OF GOD AND WHAT HEAVEN WILL BE LIKE. AN EVANGELISTIC BOOK FOR THE SEEKER ALONG WITH A COMFORTING BOOK FOR THOSE THAT HAVE WALKED WITH THE LORD FOR MANY YEARS.
Wow! I heard Dr. Jeremiah speak at Liberty University’s convocation when my daughter was a student. I would listen online. It was such a powerful talk that had me buy his book.
He talks about the ways that God loves us. The premise is 1. God loves you. 2. God ALWAYS has loved you. 3. God will ALWAYS love you.
There are plenty of real life examples of people loving others when it is difficult. There are Bible verses to back up what he writes.
Love can change the world. Look at the life of Jesus Christ.
There were good parts of the book, but I felt like he went on too many unrelated trails and soap box arguments that did more to hurt his premise than help. I didn't see the need for nearly two chapters about abortion or the multiple discussions of fatherless families and other moral issues. He talked so much about how these things are destroying our culture that it clouded his explanations of God's love.
This book not only exposes the lies we believe about God and His love, but it helped me understand on such a deep level who God is and His love for humanity. Dr. David Jeremiah has written such a powerful book about the true fact that God Loves You: He Always Has -- He Always Will. This book not only has given me a greater appreciation for God and that fact that He loves me no matter what, but it has motivated me to value humanity had He does and to love one another.
While i have read most of your books and enjoyed most of them especially your latest ones.. My favorite one had been God l
I was raised in a home without a Dad and A Mother who had no love for me and was. So Bad That God also did not love me either. This Book has started to dispelled these lies. Have begun the road to recovery from these lirs
I liked they he broke down some key verses. Subjects on murder and abortion appeared to be judgemental from his perspective. I can understand his rationale behind value of human life but I’m still trying to image how people guilty of theses sins feels. Gave different perspective on prodigal son story. I liked analogies and stories
A beautiful book. I however do not struggle with knowing God loves me, so the message wasn't really tailored to me. This would be a wonderful book to share with someone who needs to hear the gospel or is struggling. It also laid out the the perfect case against abortion that we all know deep down in our heart, but many need to hear.
It was good. Very easy read. Good, practical and thought provoking counsel. If you are struggling about knowing God's immense love for you this is a must read.
Overall a good book. I got a little hung up. I can usually read his books in a day or two but this one took longer. I think I wanted to digest the concepts a little bit more.
Audiobook. Wow. Pretty much sums up the gospel message right here. Doesn't matter how many historic documents or archeological sites are dug up this is the central point of true Christianity.
I quite liked it overall, there were a few times where I felt like subject matter took a turn in early chapters that I didn't find entirely helpful, but overall....worth a read.
