Fourteen of the most provocative, vital and boundary-breaking artists of today candidly discuss their lives, art and experiences, including Art Spiegelman (Maus), Dan Clowes (Eightball), Julie Doucet (Dirty Plotte), Chris Ware (ACME Novelty Library), Chester Brown (Yummy Fur), Aline Kominsky-Crumb (Weirdo), Ted Rall, and more!
Books about other books to read. In this case subversive/explicit/sexual/hard comics. Whew, hard subjects are covered. I knew about a handful of the writer, artists, but definitely was exposed to ones that I didn't and eagerly what to read.
I loved getting to learn about the female/woman comic makers from the 60's-90's and will be getting the Twisted Sisters comic anthology ASAP.
Reading about Art Spiegelman talk about the pressure the immense success of Maus was very surprising, as was seeing his earlier work.
Recommend for very versed comic readers that are looking for work they havn't seen.
This book is horribly edited, and sometimes the interviews are unfocused. However, the subjects chosen and the candor and depth that Juno elicits from them makes up for those factors. Worth the price of admission for the Spiegelman interview alone.
