"I am totally yours, and all that I have is yours." - St. Louis de Montfort Amidst the Nazi occupation of Poland and long days in forced labor at a quarry and chemical plant, young Karol Wojtyla - the man who would become Pope John Paul II - made a discovery that would change his life. He read the 18th century spiritual writings of St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort and prayed St. Louis' thirty-three days of preparation for total consecration to Jesus through Mary. He understood anew that the purpose of a true devotion to Mary is to be directed into a deeper relationship with Jesus and the Holy Trinity. The consecration so marked his life that he would adopt St. Louis' phrase Totus Tuus (Latin for "Totally Yours") as his motto as bishop and later as pope. Blessed John Paul II's adoption of this radical commitment to Jesus through Mary ignited a new flame in the hearts of countless Catholics all over the world. This fresh look at Marian consecration takes the themes and structures of St. Louis de Montfort's preparation for total consecration and incorporates the teachings and insight of Blessed John Paul II, including prayer, contemplation, and resolutions that will open your heart to the life of the Holy Trinity. Through these thirty-three days of spiritual exercises you will discover how you can grow closer to Jesus through the heart of Mary, while becoming the very best version of yourself in a life of consecration.
I completed St. Louis deMontfort's consecration years ago, but have renewed it using a couple of other resources, Totus Tuus being the most recent one. I read it as part of a parish-wide consecration.
At first, this felt a bit too much like deMontfort's consecration preparation to me, which I wasn't too fond of. Eventually, I fell into its rhythm though and began to get more from the reflections - difficult when I'd often be reading well past my bedtime, eager to finish the day's reflection, not meditate on profound spiritual truths.
The use of Scripture and selected writings was helpful, and my favorite part of the book was the use of Pope St. John Paul's reflections, which are filled with wisdom and insights. Overall, a viable alternative for consecration that blends the original with the contemporary via a great modern saint.
This book was gaseous. It’s definitely my favorite Marian Consecration that I have done thus far. The design and layout of the book is perfect for entering into meditation rooted in scripture. It displays how was can see Mary as an aid in our journey into deeper relationship with Jesus. Overall, a fire read. (Happy Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes)
Incredible. This book is very well done and it helped me grow leaps and bounds spiritually by the beautiful teaching from John Paul II, sacred scripture, and St Louis de Montfort. I highly recommend this Marian Consecration for anyone who wants to conform themselves to Jesus and to grow in deeper intimacy with him and our mother Mary!
“I am totally yours, and all that I have is yours.”
Happy Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel! This consecration book was so fruitful and had a lot of great info in it. After each scripture passage, we were given an insightful writing from JPII, which allowed for a deeper understanding and knowledge of Mary’s virtues.
My only negative takeaway, is that I preferred the format of 33 Days to Morning Glory. 33 days was a more linear read, while in this book you had to flip back and forth to the daily prayers. However, I do prefer the content of this book over 33 Days.
I think this book by far is the best Marian Consecration I have ever worked through. Fr. Brian is an amazing priest, currently the pastor at St. Mary's Catholic Center in College Station, Texas. He has a passion for Jesus Christ that is amazing. And it shows in this book.
An excellent guide to prepare for total consecration. Combines Scripture and teachings from JPII while also following the format set up by St Louis de Montfort. It felt like a modern take on Monfort's, while still be true to the original.
