Snapdragon Romance #2

Miriam's Mismatch

Rate this book
What's the probability of a cocky business major and a grumpy goth making it through the summer when they get stuck together for a statistics class project? The odds are not in their favor...especially after he finds out her saucy secret.

Miriam just wants to ace summer statistics and hang out with her pole dance friends... but then she gets paired with the most obnoxious frat-bro type she can imagine. Who might be a little cute...if he didn't adamantly hate pole dancers.

Luke just wants to ace summer statistics and hang out with his buddies... but then he gets paired with the weird goth girl in class. Who might be a little sexy...if she wasn't so unfriendly.

With their statistics assignment looming, Luke and Miriam must decide to stop fighting and work together. They might have more in common than they think...but they're also keeping things from each other that could destroy their newfound attraction.

Miriam's Mismatch is a steamy, enemies-to-lovers forced proximity romance with an introverted heroine and a confident hero who fight their way into a happily ever after.

Dnf both Mcs are annoying and judgemental. No redeeming qualities. Also over explained and hard to get into book.

Enemies-to-Friends-to-Lovers; closer to 3.5 stars
Miriam Weiss is 26yo and finishing up her second undergrad degree. She only needs this one last class: statistics. She is taking a summer class where it can be short but intense to finish up. On the first day of class, she “meets” Lucas aka Luke and his friends in a most unsatisfactory way. Her luck, she is paired with Luke on a major project for the final grade. Luke is 25yo and just finishing his first undergraduate degree because he has had to pay for it and work multiple jobs to take care of himself and his mother. There is a very unsettling reason behind that but I’ll let the story tell it. He is sensitive about certain things due to his past and so is Miriam however in her case things are different. She carries her past hurts like a boulder-size chip on her shoulder which was extremely disconcerting during most of this book. In my opinion Luke had a greater reason to feel sensitive more so than Miriam did. Her reactions far outweigh their original cause. I think she needed a more damaging event to make her feel this intense and believable for the reader. Also, there were scenes that seemed gratuitous: do we really need to know step-by-step how she makes coffee or full descriptions of her pole dancing routines? Overall, it was enjoyable especially after they start working together amicably. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

I didn’t think I would like this book at first since they both had biases and stereotyped each other. Miriam’s character was way more interesting to me because I have never read another book with a goth, pole dancing, bisexual main character who also wanted to be an art therapist which was kinda odd since she dances and loves music but only does art once. Dance or music therapy might be a better fit for her and I myself am a music therapist with a dance background. I love enemies to lovers arcs and this played out pretty slow and had some nice spicy scenes. It was a little predictable at times, but I still enjoyed it. My favorite part was her pole dancing because I want to get back into pole and it sounds so much more interesting as an experienced dancer with more impressive moves than a beginner. Overall I liked the book and would read the first one in the series if it were also free for stuff your kindle day.

This is the second installment in the Snapdragon Series, and it is everything I wanted it to be. After reading Kaity's Catch, I was excited to see the world expand. Miriam is so different from Kaity. She's much more confident and self-assured. She has insecurities, but she's reflexive about them and where they stem from. She's working on bettering herself and her community, while also navigating some assumptions and stereotypes about her Stat partner, Luke. Luke, of course, has some assumptions and stereotypes that he needs to overcome.
Like Kaity's Catch, this is a slow burn romance novel with some well-written smut. It develops the characters and we don't leave the book with the same people to whom we were first introduced. The technical aspects of pole fitness are also described with excellent details. It requires a lot of strength and precise technique and that is evident in Sommers's writing.
Again for transparency, Sommers and I are friends, and I'm happy to support her in her writing. I really enjoyed my reading experience and look forward to the next time I get to be "in the studio."

I enjoyed the inclusive nature of this book and how it was just normalised rather than becoming the subject of the story. The plot was good though simple. I didn't like the male characters triggers nor the reasons which made it a bit unbelievable for me. And Miriam was also a bit extreme with her triggers. Perhaps some more back story would have made it more realistic. There was also a bit too much unnecessary description for me. But I did still enjoy it. So a mixed bag and 3 stars.

Fun at the gym.

My first book by this author and it was so superb, it dealt with some hard topics, smoothly and gave you strong characters that are realistic to go with the story.

Was hard to get into, but I persisted because I got it from a SYK event and I was not letting a free book go to waste and I'm SO GLAD I didn't

Book 2 in Sommers Snapdragon Romance series but can be read as a standalone. I loved these two main characters - Luke and Miriam. Luke is a seemingly stuck up, know it all (who is actually sweet and wonderful) who is paired up with Miriam, a goth-ish girl who seemingly has a chip on her shoulder (who is a tell it like it is kinda gal). These two are paired up and need to work together to pass the assignment / class but they need to find some common ground - and there is more than they initially thing. The attraction is there for sure but secrets kept may keep things from progressing. Will these two be able to work together to not only get the grade but find their forever happiness? Well written, I love how Sommers brings in pole dancing in a tasteful way and the steam factor was great. These characters were so much fun to read about and I can't wait to see what's next from Sommers or this series!

This was a cute, easy, flowing read. I appreciated the variety in characters (from ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, ages, etc.). I always enjoy the dual perspectives from both the main characters/love interests. I feel like that helps give me, the reader, a better sense of what each character is feeling/thinking/doing. My reason for not giving it 5 stars is simply that I felt the conflicts got resolved to simply, easily, and quite quickly. Some of the characters and plot lines just felt basic (not a BAD thing) to me. I wanted some things to be explored more deeply or expanded on, but I also understand that by doing that it would take away from the easiness and lightness of this book. Overall, I enjoyed this and would recommend this to another reader.

Miriam's Mismatch is book two in the Snapdragon Romance series, and this book was cute, entertaining, and a fun read overall. I loved Luke and Miriam because they made me giggle quite a bit while reading this book. They are brought together when they are paired as statistics partners, and they really need to find some common ground (which they have quite a bit of) if they are going to complete this project and pass. Miriam is a gothish girl with chip on her shoulder, while Luke gives off the stuck up vibe (which he really isn't). Watching these two come together made me so happy and left me with a big smile on my face. I really enjoyed reading this book.

This book may surprise you just like the characters were surprised themselves. It is easy to judge a book by its cover or a person by their skin. People are always judging something be it a book, a person, a movie, tv show, or even clothing. With social media the way it is, it is no wonder being judgy is so easy. I do love when the tides turn on you and people turn out to be different then how you thought they were when you looked at them. People can surprise you. You should never judge a book by its cover or a person by their profession. People will surprise you. You may find your diamond in the ruff by looking in the "wrong" direction. Diamonds were once coal you know.

Luke and Miriam are brought together by being paired up to do a statistics assignment , she’s the weird goth girl in class he's the cocky business major that has to ace this class….The more they bicker about how and what to do they have to work together as time is running out. The secrets they keep might prove the two are more compatible than they first think but what else are they not telling each other and do they have enough steam to go all the way to an happy ever after

I love a good, happy ending! The book was a little slow to get started, but I felt a good connection between the main characters. Luke's characters was so sweet and he's a guy all women would love to have. I envy Miriam with her uniqueness and her tell-it like it is personality. I need a sequel!
