When Thalia Eichel, a nobody from Druin, wakes up on the outskirts of the royal city with her memories lost, it's safe to say she has a few questions. Only one person can give her the answers she seeks—Alistair, the God of Protection. Her mind may be nothing but a web of fragmented memories, but Thalia remembers one thing: she hates the gods. As if talking to him wasn't bad enough, he has come to deliver the most unfortunate news.
Thalia is dead.
But not all hope is lost. Alistair recalls something from centuries past that might have the power to bring her back from the dead. But there are rules she must obey. Reluctantly, Thalia agrees. If she must play the part of a good little mortal, that is what she will do. She knows it's the only way she can reclaim her life, and more importantly, put an end to the one who ruined it in the first place.
Thalia was certainly no murderer in her past life, but she's not afraid to be one in the next.
Meanwhile, Thalia's best friend, Torin Lehr, finds himself in dangerous situations as he works to uncover the truth of her mysterious disappearance. His choices and rebellious allegiances lead him down a relentless path from which there is no turning back. Corruption oozes from the hearts of the black cloaks, and he manages to get wedged in the thick of it.
All roads lead back to King Vitalis, but why? What would the royals want with a family of farmers who are a bunch of nobodies anyway?
MARION MAVIS is an independent fantasy author who created the Keepers of Magic universe and the Ghosts and Gods world. She’s the mother of one feral toddler, and she and her family live in Canada, where she graduated from Trent University with a B.A.H in English Literature. When she’s not writing her next book, she’s spending time outdoors with her loved ones, rewatching Dawson’s Creek, or traveling with her inner circle.
The Myth of the Medallion, Book 1 in the Ghosts and Gods series by Marion Mavis, brought such an exciting plot into the light: a story of gods and mortals intertwined in centuries of love, hate, devotion, and pain. A story of a mortal and a god. A story of making peace with yourself and finding the answers you need. A story of love and friendship.
The Myth of the Medallion is being released on November 2nd, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories of meddling gods, mysteries and secrets, and slow-burn romance. As I've said, I've found the book concept intriguing, especially the execution of Thalia's character, the FMC. With its unique twists and turns, her story has left me eager to see what Marion has in store for her.
Plainly said, Thalia is dead. But that is not the ending of her path; it is only the beginning. As Thalia navigates the remnants of her past, mourning what once was and yearning for revenge, she will need to uncover many secrets from her past and learn about her true identity. She will deal with memory loss and flashbacks, but she will never lose her drive and her need to protect her loved ones. And, if we add to the mix a certain god who would break the rules to help her...Well, we are in for a rollercoaster ride.
Fantasy meets mystery in The Myth of the Medallion, and I am ready to uncover any secrets we have left. After the cliffhanger we were left with, I am curious to see where the story will take us next.
Thank you, Marion, for gifting me the ARC; reading and reviewing was a pleasure!
This one takes a little to build up— the Medallion doesn’t even get mentioned until about halfway— but by that point you’re already sucked into the world that you’re like oh right! The title! While obviously fantasy due to the setting, I loved the paranormal element incorporated, since Thalia is a ghost. She wasn’t always. She was very much alive, but her family has a secret and the King and Prince kill her for it. I was surprised how quickly that happened, like she didn’t even have a chance to put up a fight, but it does set our course for the rest of the story. Thalia meets the God of Protection, who has been protecting her family because of an heirloom ring and Alistair is very disconnected from mortals, but the more time he spends with Thalia, he finds himself drawn to her. Until he learns who she is, then he’s scared. But then also like, eh you’re not that bad. I loved the super slow burn. Like you just get to see this friendship and yearning blossom, and I imagine it will be explored in the next book. I’m also intrigued to see how Thalia has evolved, given that ending. I enjoyed the multiple POVs, as I feel it added depth to the story since the characters were all in different areas of the land, but their stories connected. It makes you grow to care for all of them as well.
Just woke up? How about realizing you're dead? That's exactly where Thalia’s story begins in The Myth of the Medallion!
Our fiery FMC (seriously, her attitude matches her red hair 🔥) is up against gods, missing memories, and a second chance at life—and revenge.
The catch? She needs help from Alistair, the God of Protection, the last person (or god) she'd ever want on her team.
Thrown into a journey filled with relics, haunting memories, and ominous secrets about the royals, Thalia won’t stop until she gets answers…and maybe some payback too.
But she’s not the only one on the hunt—her best friend Torin is risking it all, and her brother Demetrius is caught in a deadly family mystery.
🌌 If you love a multi-POV fantasy with meddling gods, magical artifacts, and a sassy, revenge-driven heroine who doesn’t mind bending the rules, this is your jam!
There’s adventure, dark twists, found family, a sprinkle of romance, and one wild cliffhanger that will leave you begging for the next installment!

A stunning masterpiece!! I was sucked in from the first page and had a hard time putting this one down.
It was easy to get lost in this tale and I loved all the different points of views and characters!
Thalia was amazing! She was a strong determined woman who was fiercely independent and protective of her family. I enjoyed her character and had no probably rooting for her, wanting to see her succeed in her quest.
Alistair was another favorite of mine, along with his sister! He was a God and yes has a bit of arrogance, but I loved getting glimpses of the real person underneath. I can’t wait to see more of him.
There’s also Torin and Demetrius; Thalia’s family. I enjoyed reading a little bit about them and seeing where their journey took them as well.
There was one other character that was just so fun and that was Zovak. He was certainly entertaining and I hope we get more of him!!
This whole book was a fantastic new world with Gods/goddesses, fae, magic, witches, and so much more! I absolutely loved the world building on this one and the twist and turns kept me hooked. I can’t wait to see where things go from here!
Some tropes to enjoy here are; original, gods/goddesses, magic, loyalty, quest, high risk, multiple POVs, strong females, strong friend relationships, rebellion, enemies to allies, no spice, and so much more!!
From the beginning of this book to the very end, the story was fantastic! The world building was both perfect and magical and the character development was out of this world! The FMC Thalia is not only feisty but her moral compass is fascinating. The banter between her and the god of protection Alistair is delicious, hilarious and relatable.
Simply said, Thalia wakes up and realizes she’s dead. As she embarks on her journey to find the truth of why she was murdered, what happened to her family and trusted friend, and trying to solve the mystery of what happens next, the storyline has twists and turns that left me wanting more and excited to see where Thalia’s story goes next.
As a story of fantasy, mystery, a little romance and a little thrill with the wild cliffhanger we were left with, without a doubt do I need to know what happens next.
The thoughts and feeling of Thalia are valid and relatable and I cannot wait to see where the journey of Thalia and Alistair goes next!
Thank you Marion for gifting me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I give it 5/5 stars and CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!

I was provided an ARC of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thalia was summoned to the palace for an audience with the King, and woke to find herself passed on and in the spirit world, where no one can see her apart from Alistair the God of Protection, with a thick fog hanging over the memories of her life prior to death.
Harboring a demeanor as fiery as the hair atop her head, fierce Thalia is determined to uncover the cause of her death, and not to let this be the end of her story. Luckily for her, Alistair recalls just the powerful ancient relic that may grant her a second chance at life— and her revenge against the one who stole the first one from her. Thalia is reluctant to accept help from anyone, much less one of the Gods that she hates, but her urge to get her life back outweighs her hatred and she accepts his help.
The journey to retrieve the artifact will not be a simple, but long and filled with no shortage of twists and turns. But adventurous Thalia is up to the task, venturing throughout a word filled with gods, ghosts and monstrous creatures, both mortal and otherwise.
Demetrius is frantically ushered from his family home with a hastily packed bag by his father and told never to return. That it is too late for his sister, and he must go before “they” take him, too. Forced to flee to the sounds of his mother screaming, Thalia’s twin then watches from afar as his family farmhouse is engulfed in flames with his parents still inside. Grief stricken and unsure what his next move should be but still determined, he sets out on an adventure of his own in attempt to discover the fate of his sister and her best friend.
Torin has been the fiercely loyal best friend of Thalia and practically a member of the family since he tragically lost his own at much too young an age. So when he watches as the girl who is like a sister to him disappears into the palace and she then goes missing, there’s nothing he won’t do and nowhere he won’t go to uncover the secrets around her disappearance and bring his best friend home with him— or get vengeance for her loss.
This was an adventurous and action packed fantasy with many a secret to uncover, corruption and mystery, fierce friendship, a sprinkle of romance, and some tragedy. I think there’s a much larger picture here that we only get the tiniest glimpses at, and I definitely look forward to seeing it completed.

This is hands down my first favorite read of the month! I loved getting completely lost in this captivating fantasy world—it’s always a treat when a book lives up to its gorgeous cover. From start to finish, I was hooked by the intriguing storyline and Mavis’s incredible world-building. The world of gods, goddesses, and ghosts felt so rich and alive, and the multiple POVs were written so seamlessly that I never once felt lost. Even without character-titled chapters, each perspective was distinct and easy to follow, which is no small feat. I can’t even pick a favorite character because I truly loved them all!
One thing that really surprised me was how much I loved this book, even with just a hint of romance. There’s some tension and developing feelings between two of the main characters, but that’s as far as it goes. Normally, I’d be craving more romance, but I was so wrapped up in the story and characters that I didn’t even miss it. That just shows how captivating this book truly is! I’m beyond thrilled that this is just the start of a series, and I can’t wait to dive back into this world to see where the story goes next. If you’re looking for a fantasy with depth, complex characters, and masterful storytelling, The Myth of the Medallion is a must-read!
What to expect: • enemies to lovers • gods/goddesses lore • political rebellion • platonic MF friendships • quest • multiple POVs • ancient artifacts • family secrets • magic • strong female characters
Thank you to the author and R&R Book Tours for the arc! 🥰🫶🏼
This is the first book in a new series by the author called ghosts and gods. There are a lot of troops in this one, including one of my favorites enemies to lovers, gods and goddesses, journey, secrets, mysteries, and a character being deceased. Our FMC is Thalia, and she awakens to be dead with no memory of being dead. We meet Alastair, who is the God of protection, and she says to her that she is dead and that in order to become mortal again she has to follow certain rules. I liked the character of Alastair as he was an interesting character and I liked the relationship between Thalia and Alastair. Thalia has a brother who is her twin he is left wondering what happened to his sister and also her best friend Torin. Torin is on his own journey trying to figure out what happened to Thalia she disappeared and she needs to find out what happened or die trying. I enjoyed Torin's concern over his best friend and loved the relationship between the two characters as well. This is a slow burn book with the romance there is not really any romance to speak of, however I know there is more to the story coming in a new book soon and There is a cliffhanger in the end of this one so be warned!
This story is gripping from the very beginning. It's the same feeling I got when I read Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Marquez: you can´t quite believe you are reading the protagonist's demise in the first chapter.
That said, the exciting beginning of the story is only the start of the adventure that the main characters will experience. Thalia must deal with a lot to uncover what happened to her family and understand what is expected of her to help protect her loved ones. I loved that character. Her defiance and stubbornness were palpable, and I was always rooting for her.
The four POVs were an excellent idea for understanding everything going on and getting to know all of the characters and their relevance to the story. I love the relationship between Thalia and Alistair. That slow burn was fantastic, and I need to know how this relationship will develop further in the series.
As wild as that beginning was, the ending couldn't stay behind. That cliffhanger was so astounding that it leaves you begging for the next installment of this series.
Thank you, R&R Book Tours and Marion, for the advanced copy!
Thalia is a rebel from Druin and one day she woke up without her memories and she wants to find out what happed. The only one who can help her with this is Alistair, the God of Protection but she hates the gods. But this isn't the worst, Alistair tells her that she's dead.
Throughout the book we follow Thalia and Alistair as they search for something that might has the power to bring her back from the dead. I admire Thalia's willpower. She's a brave woman who doesn't need any man's help and especially Alistair's. Alistair on the other hand wants to help her, and he's willing to go against everything to do that. He's good and protective. This book is the epitome of slow burn. I wanted to see some romantic scenes but the realisation came to late. When I reached the ending I almost screamed. The cliffhanger was something that I couldn't predict and I'm really curious to find out what'll happen in the next book.
If you like slow burn then read this book.
I received a free review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I want to start off by saying that the cover alone is why I needed this book. I mean it's just so beautiful not to want to read. And inside was no disappointment either. I have never read anything from this author before. THIS WONT BE THE LAST BOOK. I really enjoyed the writing style. The characters and the world building. Even through our main character was gone. I have to say that I admire her friend for not wanting to give up on finding out what happened to her. With each page was something going on. I was gonna getting fight club vibes at times. There was even a time where I was reading this book ate one night. Ended up having a dream that I was right there with the God of protection. I really couldn't sleep. I can't wait for book 2 I don't know how many books there are going to be. But I am ready for the next one. I have to say a big thank you to the author and rrbooktours for the opportunity for reading such amazing book. I highly recommend this book. Adding this book to my favorite of 2024.
This whimsical tale filled with myths, magical beings, higher deities, and a war ridden history was a blast to read!
Thalia Eichel and her best friend, Torin Lehr, only want to make it home safe after trading goods across the border of her hometown Druin, which is forbidden under the rule of King Vitalis. When summoned to the palace to meet with the king, Thalia’s only thought is to make it out alive and get back to her family. But fate has other plans. Finding herself dead and wandering as a spirit, Thalia meets Alastair, the god of protection, who was not able to save her from death. To make amends, Alastair vows to help Thalia find a medallion that could restore her humanity and help save her brother, best friend, and her fellow rebels. The powers threatening Thalia and Alastair are much stronger and sinister than they foresaw-can they restore Thalia’s humanity before it’s too late?
This story had so many moments that I loved! From the meddling, irksome, chaotic, and somewhat compassionate gods, to the determination Thalia felt to save her best friend and brother, as well as the focus of revenge melting away in order to save those she loves-it all made for an epic and beautiful start to this tale. I cannot wait I read the next installment of this series!
I really enjoyed this one. The worldbuilding was excellent! This high fantasy read is filled with mystery, magic, gods, and ghosts. Our mmc Thalia, wakes up with her memories gone. The only one who can help her is Alistair, the god of protection. He is there to tell her she’s dead. She hates the gods but must work with him to get the answers she needs and also help her on a quest to bring her back from the dead. Her friend Torin and her brother Demetrius are also hunting for answers.
I loved the banter between Thalia and Alistair! I also loved the slow burn. The twists and adventures kept me engaged from beginning to end and after that cliffhanger I need book 2 ASAP!
This book was so unique and i loved is. Thalia, her Twin and their Best Friend end up on an adventure. Thalia wakes up dead and with the help of a god she tries to find her way back to her brother and best friend. When her brother loses everything he sets out on an adventure to find Thalia and their best friend Torin. Torin while trying to find out what happened to Thalia ends up on his own adventure. Eventually everything comes to a head and a lot of things are revealed. I really enjoyed this book and i can’t wait to see what happens next. it did end on a cliff hanger.
A great start to a new epic high fantasy series. The Myth of the Medallion was a mysterious and refreshing fantasy read filled with magic, lost memories, rebellious gods, quests, and a vengeful, fierce heroine.
She is a mortal. He is a god. Alistair and Thalia. 🖤 Their banter and sneers are delicious, and their tender moments are swoon worthy. Love these two. I cannot wait to see where they go in the end.
This is my first read of Marion Mavis, but it will not be my last. I look forward to book #2. Rating: 4.5/5
Gods, and ghosts, and magic, oh my! I loved this book, it was so unique!
Thalia is a Druin rebel who one day wakes up to find she is no longer alive and has lost her memories. Alistair, the God of Protection, is the only one who can see her. Unfortunately, Thalia hates the gods, but reluctantly accepts his help when he tells her there may be a way to bring her back.
I loved that this book had multiple povs! It was interesting to get perspectives from Thalia’s best friend, her brother, and more to get a view of the bigger picture of the rebellion, the royals, and the lore of the Gods.
I think this is the beginning of what will surely be an epic fantasy! I already cannot wait for book two!!
Thalia and Alastairs witty banter is top notch. She takes her situation like a champ, she died and now she has to team up with the bane of her existence.
The multiple POV and storylines create a wonderful and unique tale. I also loved Torin and Demetrius. They were incredible characters.
This was such a beautiful book. It feels unique and inspiring. I was instantly drawn in, and for me, it did not waver at all. The character development is amazing.
I absolutely need more of this world, and I look forward to reading more books by Marion Mavis.
I think this story has a ton of potential! It really starts off with a bang and hooks you - but I feel like it lost me a little bit with the pacing and I feel like the world/plot building is spread throughout the story too much in flashbacks/memories… I would have liked more of this information at the beginning so I wasn’t in the dark as long as I was. But like I said - the storyline has a lot of potential and I don’t think I’ve ever read another story with a similar plot.
This book was such a fantastic opening book to the series! I love the different characters we get to follow as the story unfolds, their journeys through out the kingdom giving you new insight through every chapter. Can’t wait to see where the next book takes us! Another amazing story by Marion Mavis!
I really enjoyed TMOTM, it was such an interesting story!
It starts with the assassination of Thalia, the FMC (yes, really). She wakes up without any memories, and then encounters Alistair, the God of Protection, who explains that she is now a ghost roaming the earth with unfinished business. Feeling guilty for not having saved her, Alistair decides to help her out, and ends up sucked in her orbit despite himself.
What he doesn't know yet, is that Thalia is the descendant of a man who brought terrible destruction in his time, and is central to both the rebellion against the King, and the King's own nefarious plans.
I really liked the plot of this book. The pace builds up gradually until all hell breaks loose and it ends in a cliffhanger. I loved all the characters. Thalia is a badass who doesn't take shit from anyone (not even the Gods), Alistair is a total softie, Torin is unhinged AF, and Demetrius ugh, 😅 I love him but he is so naive, bless his heart. All the other characters as well each brought a little flavor to the story and kept it interesting. There were several twists and turns to keep us on our toes, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story will unfold in the following books!
Thank you to R&R Book Tours and Marion Mavis for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Now let’s talk about the book itself! The Myth of the Medallion was magical NA epic fantasy. When I was a teen or in my early twenties, this absolutely wouldn’t have been one of my go-tos, but it’s one of those stories that can be enjoyed by adults of any age. The story surrounds Thalia, her twin brother Demetrius and her best friend Torin and each chapter provides the reader with the characters’ individual journeys. Thalia is the perfect definition of #femininerage after discovering that she was murdered in the afterlife. Unwilling to accept her fate and with love driving her to protect her loved ones, she embarks on a mission alongside her newfound friend Alistair, who also happens to be the God of Protection.
The Myth of the Medallion is a story packed with political intrigue both amongst the gods and humans. Ethics and morals are weighed against historical practices and outdated beliefs. An impossible mission driven by love has the chance to change everything.
Thank you so much to R&R Book Tours and the author for gifting me this gorgeous copy of The Myth of the Medallion, along with some bookish goodies 🫶
This is a perfect fantasy fall read. I thoroughly enjoyed this whole book. It kept me engaged the whole entire time and can we talk about how absolutely gorgeous this cover is I loved everything about it.Thalia Is one of my most favorite characters of this story! The world building in this story was absolutely captivating in every way, I was amazed by how much I felt like I was in the story with everyone traveling by their side. The so slow it hurts slow burn was a perfect add to this wonderful story. If you are looking for a fantasy with mystery, a little romance WITH a cliffhanger (because we all know how we loveee to hurt ourselves and make us wait) then please check out this book ASAP! you will adore the adventure it takes you through 💛
The Myth of the Medallion was very enjoyable! Thalia wakes up on the outskirts of town with her memories gone. She cannot remember how or why she got there but her memories, at least some of them, start to return throughout her journey. She meets the god of protection, Alistar and he tells her she is dead. Everything points back to the King but she cannot remember why. We get multiple point of views in this book while the characters were all over the lands in search of whatever they needed to find. It’s definitely a slow burn and I’m here for it! Ready to turn it up a bit. I also really would like to know what others secrets we are missing. I am very excited to see what happens next because I need answers.
This book was absolutely sensational! The story and characters were fascinating. There was action throughout the entire book which kept you on your seat and made it difficult to put down. I can’t wait for the second one to come out. This book would make a great movie. Well done Marion!
"Soon enough there'd be nothing left but ash and ruin—that, and the bones of his dead parents."
"Everything about the man infuriated Thalia to the depths of her very soul."
"I might not remember much of my life, but I do know one thing. The gods mean nothing to me."
"Her intensity was something she was proud of and she would allow no one, no mere mortal and certainly no divine god, to try and snuff out her light."
"The stars will guide you, and so will your heart. The truth cannot stay hidden forever."
"Your souls are connected to the stars. You cannot exist without each other. Wherever she may be in the universe, you'll be together again."
"But out here, Demetrius felt different, like he could be someone new. Daring, bold, adventurous. A brother Thalia could be proud of."
"She narrowed her eyes as he advanced on her once more, pinning her against the dresser so she had nowhere to go. When the air left her body this time, it was for an entirely different reason. One that felt incredibly sinful."
"THE ORDER OF AMERA DEMANDS JUSTICE. IF YOU REFUSE TO OFFER ANY, WE WILL TAKE IT BY FORCE."
"I will find her, Demetrius. I give you my word. I will lay waste to Namoir until she is with us again."
"They laughed, and for a few precious seconds, Thalia forgot all about the mission, the fact that she was dead, or that the only place she'd ever called home was gone forever. She was just a girl, and if she closed her eyes, Alistair was just a boy, and they were bonding under the stars and moon, where nothing else mattered."
"The man in him wanted to hold her hand until the sun, moon, and stars ceased to exist, but the god in him foolishly let her go."
"The mortals were messy, emotional creatures; the gods were not."
"Darling, I'm the God of Chaos. Of course I have weapons."
"No one in her small universe, or any universe for that matter, would ever compare."
