After arriving with a single suitcase and a busted phone, Sasha Williams realizes she’s stranded at a train station in the Swiss Alps. Due to the kindness of the train attendant, she borrows a Vespa and sets out to her new job as an English teacher. But life’s got jokes and as the sun slips behind the mountains, the Vespa gets a flat. Unable to catch a break, Sasha relies on a mysterious bearded lumberjack on his motorcycle, Ricky, who finally gets her safely to a small town called Glockenwald. In order to hide from her abusive ex, Sasha deleted all of her social media and changed all of her contact information. She’s alone in this new town where she barely knows the language. Throughout her journey, she’s trying to learn to be confident and find herself worthy of love. Maybe Ricky is the temptation she needs to find her self-confidence. But what will happen when she discovers that Ricky isn’t the bearded lumberjack of her fantasy? Find out in this epic love story where consent is sexy.
Trigger The trilogy #BeautyAndTheBell addresses multiple issues which may cause some readers discomfort. Through Sasha’s journey she experiences flashbacks of domestic abuse, assault, attempted rape, human trafficking, racism, tragic loss of a loved one, miscarriage, pregnancy, other issues with her reproductive health, and emotional turmoil including but not limited to anxiety and depression. This is an adult romance with adult themes including physical violence, smoking, alcohol, and explicit sex between two or more people.
I was so happy to receive an ARC of this novel in exchange of an honest review.
First, I must admit that it wasn’t love at first sight. There was something about the beginning of the novel that left me perplexed. I couldn’t decide if I liked it or not but somehow, I was stuill intrigued and interested to find out what happens next. I’m glad I kept going because eventually, I couldn’t put my phone down (yes, I read on my phone even if I have a kindle).
I fell in love with the different settings. The author describes the small swiss village quite well. I felt the weather changes, I pictured the mountain, etc. And I’m not even going to mention the dreamy travel destinations.
I also fell in love with the main characters. The are both very different and very similar at the same time. They are both strong personalities (or they act strong to keep up with their objectives in life) while being very vulnerable beings when you get to know them. I love how as a reader, you can see that they need each other in their lives. They are both an achor and a breath of fresh air for each other (if I can say it like that).
I am very intrigued to find out what happens next for our couple.
Oh, and kuddos for the HFN ending with a hint of a cliffhanger. I feel like I can wait for the next book in peace (as opposed to going crazy with worry if it was a major cliffhanger).
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and I really enjoyed it! The story felt like being in a fun Hallmark movie set in Switzerland. It deals with some tough subject matter - check the TWs. But I loved the relationship between Ricky and Sasha. Ricky is everything you could want in a rugged, handsome, lumberjack kind of MMC. Sasha is brave and strong and on such a journey of personal healing. The book also has some delicious spice in it 🥵 I was reading it on a long flight and kept making sure the lady next to me wasn’t looking over 😝
Overall I give Evolution: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Brownie points for the beautiful art! 😍
I read this little gem in a book club I’m in and I am completely obsessed. I rated it a 5/5. I could have devoured this in a day or 2 but I was just trying to keep up with book discussions and not try to get too far ahead. You’ll feel every emotion while reading and then want more when you finish the last page. I highly recommend this romance book. Make sure to always check TW’s. There’s a small list of triggers.
I enjoyed the mental escape this book took me on. I received an ARC and have been eager to start reading about Sasha and Ricky. Although Sasha's life is far more dangerous and scary then mine she needed a real escape and went for it. Not many women in her situation are brave enough to leave. I was rooting for her to let love in an see herself as the strong person that Ricky sees her for! She has struggled so much in her life and I was so rooting for a happy ending. I can not wait to see what else their story holds!!
There were times I was so frustrated with Sasha. she kept doubting herself and could not see her worth despite the giant accomplishments she has made. She grows throughout the book but she definitely needs more confidence in herself. Sometimes I get so frustrated when women don't see their own value, their strengths and Sasha does not. But towards the end she starts to, she starts to see/understand what Rickey sees in her. I am pumped to keep reading their story in the next two parts!

Sasha leaves everything she knows behind in the States to get a new start in Switzerland. She planned to avoid men for a while after escaping her abusive ex. Little does she know, a handsome 'lumberjack' will quickly change her mind.
I received an ARC but had the pleasure of reading the beta of Evolution on Wattpad. I fell in love with Sasha and Ricky immediately! Sasha is funny and unfiltered, while Ricky is a little more serious and reserved (until things heat up that is).
The way E.B. describes her characters and scenery makes it very easy to picture everything in your head, and I almost felt as if I were in the Alps with Sasha as I was reading. I absolutely cannot wait for book 2 and to see Sasha and Ricky's story continue!
Sasha really takes some getting use to. She's very nerve wracking. I understand trauma and all. But she takes it to a all new level especially for a black woman. In not sure how I feel about continuing this .......
I had known this author for a while when, a few years back, she asked me to do a read-through edit of several books she had written, beginning with a trilogy about an American city girl fleeing an abusive relationship by taking a job in a Swiss mountain village, who meets a mysterious stranger she thinks must be a lumberjack. He turns out to be a wealthy corporate conglomerate owner, and the book follows the twists and turns in their relationship. That book has been through several hands and several changes, but the core story was still there when she brought it to me afresh asking for my editorial help. In full disclosure, I was paid to do that editing. Normally I comment on the punctuation, grammar, and style problems in books I review, but in this case if I didn't catch them all that's on me.
I should caveat first that I don't usually read modern romance novels, so my opinion on this cannot take into account how other authors tackle the subject. I will also say that at least some of my readers will not enjoy this--the level of offensive language while perhaps realistic was high enough to make me uncomfortable, and if it were made into a movie the several sex scenes, which include one attempted rape, would have to be toned down significantly to qualify for an "R" rating. On the other hand, the story feels very genuine.
One point that I have not noticed mentioned in any of the reviews I've seen--well, this is the story of the relationship between Sasha and Ricky, and most of the focus is on Sasha and her insecurities, her belief that no one will ever love and embrace her as she is. However, the author also shows us Ricky's insecurities. Although he is never a viewpoint character, we recognize that he has been through some bad relationships and is always suspicious that women are after him for money and power. He struggles to get Sasha to understand that she doesn't need to be conventionally pretty (she's short, black, curvy, and not slender, in a world of tall thin Swiss blondes). The author would not be upset to be told that it is a retelling of a Cinderella story--she refers to that within the book itself--but it is a telling that packs a lot of insight between Meets Prince Charming and Happily Ever After.
I was impressed in my initial reading with the impression of a spirit element, that spiritual forces were trying to bring them together. It is in that sense the story of two broken people brought together by supernatural intervention to fix each other. Meanwhile, the descriptions are vivid, from the mountain wilderness and tiny village of the Alps to the buildings in downtown Geneva and Paris to the beaches of the Maldives, bringing the imagery alive in my mind. I don't believe that the author has actually visited these places, but she makes the reader feel as if we have.
As mentioned, it is the first book in a trilogy, referenced by the hashtag #BeautyAndTheBell, but it stands well on its own. Yes, I did read the sequels a few years back, but don't ask me for spoilers.
Read this story if you like: ▪︎Small town trope ▪︎Strong FMC ▪︎A handsome lumberjack men ▪︎Great character development ▪︎Second chance at live
This book is extraordinary. It tells the journey of a women who left everything behind to escape from her abusive ex, to find love for herself and an other again.
The author has a beautiful way with words. You feel the emotions through the eyes of the protagonist.
Sasha is an amazing strong women. Traveling to another different country after going through such a awful time to attempt a second chance at living her life is such a difficult thing to do. Sasha has to learn to love herself again. Throughout the story she becomes stronger and she grows in character. I love Ricky. He is such a patient and great men. Besides being a 'lumberjack', he is a person of high society. Their dynamic is pleasant and they complement each other well. All the residents of Glockenwald are a amazing addition to the story and part of the character development of Sasha.
Happy debut novel to E.B. Slayer. Thanks so much for this ARC! I really enjoyed it.
In a desperate attempt to save herself from her abusive situation in Detroit, Sasha deletes her socials, changes her number, and flees to Switzerland to take a job as an English teacher. Ready to start her new life and forget men, she finds herself befriending a lumberjack who might just change her world and help her heal.
This book was a roller coaster of emotions. Sasha has been through it. Like real life, her journey to heal was not linear. You can feel the hurt through the pages as well as see her growth. Ricky is so sweet and caring. They balance each other out so well. I also enjoyed the sprinkles in bits of humor throughout to lighten the mood. Awesome debut!
I enjoyed this book that I received as an advanced reader's copy. There were some humor bits and there are some triggers. I enjoyed reading bits about Sasha's home state. I enjoyed the location it was set in. I like the writing style and it flowed well for me. I can't wait for book 2
I don't want to give anything away but sometimes you have to get away to gain what you lost and more. Come on this journey with Sasha for her life, to find herrself and maybe more
Received an ARC and so glad I did! This is one of my favorite reads this year! I absolutely love Sasha’s character, and the way this book is written. It felt like I was with Sasha thru it all! This book does have some triggers of SA, DV and some amazing 🌶️🌶️🤣
I received an ARC copy of this and was blown away. E.B. Slayer creates detailed descriptions and adds depth to the narrative, immersing readers in the world she has created. Sasha, a Black woman leaves everything she knows behind to start over, never thinking she'd find what she has in a Lumberjack in the Swiss Alps. There's romance, drama and a Harley-Davidson. I was hooked and felt like I was part of this book from beginning to end. I could feel Sasha's journey and evolution in every chapter. I'm excited to see what's next.
This is my first Eb slayer book, but it will not be my last. I can’t wait for the second and third book. Sasha is a domestic violence survivor who has moved across the world to Switzerland, where she meets Ricky Ricky is so amazing. He is patient, thoughtful, and cares so much for her especially right at the time Sasha so desperately needs it. This is such a beautiful story that had the lot packed into it mental health abuse, consent and a beautiful love story very well done
I would have loved to give this book a rating of five stars, however, reading about Sasha‘s many insecurities was just a little too overwhelming for me. I’m glad in the end, she started getting the help that she needs to address these issues and insecurities, but from the anticipated series of this book, I know there will be many more insecurities and issues she needs to continue working through. Great writing of Richard’s character, and his patience! I look forward to reading how his character will evolve and show up for Sasha in the upcoming series. Looking forward to reading with great anticipation!
An emotional and relatable start to this book captured my heart from the very first page.
Sasha Williams, below average height, with a cocoa buttered, curvy body and an emotionally broken soul, stepped into Switzerland, leaving her previous life behind and hiding from her abusive ex.
She was alone in a new country, and Richard helped her by dropping her off at her destination. Their first meeting was just mesmerising; it felt as if time had stopped for both of them and destiny wanted them to be with each other. Their interactions were hot; they both could feel the intense attraction for each other.
Their joy rides, which were sensuous and sexy, were one of the highlights. Both tried to ignore this attraction, but how would they challenge fate?
Richard Bell was actually a secretive person most of the time; his persona was interesting, and his headstrong personality made his character exceptionally intriguing.
I was amazed by the way the author revealed secrets about the Bell family in each chapter, keeping the readers hooked.
Even after Richard was there to protect his beauty, Sasha was suffering from the cruelty of the world, but Richard never left her alone; even at her lowest, he was the one who took care of her, and his gentleness with her was very heartwarming; his protective nature was worth reading.
Sasha's journey was so emotional and heartfelt; her every emotion, inner turmoil, and reaction were explained in such a way that the readers would feel her every feeling.
This emotional, heartwarming story is capable of making readers shed tonnes of tears. The impact of this story will remain in the hearts of readers for a long time, that is for sure.
I would recommend it to all who like to read an intense, relatable storyline with bold and meaningful scenes that force you to become part of their story.
I really appreciate the author for choosing such topics and shedding light on them.
Her way of depicting the story in a crisp, clear, and palpable way was marvellous.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this heartwarming story, and I'm eagerly waiting for the further story of The Beauty and The Bell and rooting for their HEA.
So my initial review feels harsh in hindsight. Let me try this again.
This book started off well. It sort of read as an erotica which wasn’t really what I was looking for but I enjoyed Ricky so much that I kinda tried to stick it out anyways.
Sasha, was … a lot.
It was understood that she was overcoming a lot of trauma but there were many times where her insecurities were so overwhelming that I was waiting for Ricky to straight up leave her. Which is awful I know, but he was trying his best to respect her and at times it felt like she had an issue with every little thing. She was constantly searching for a reason why them being together or what he did around or to her was wrong. Which maybe was just apart of her process in realizing that she had someone who was worthy or her and wouldn’t leave
which is beautiful but also very exhausting to read…
I was still in the three and a half star range until I got to the scene where she was in a bathroom and got assaulted. I said it in my first initial review, I blame myself for not reading the trigger warnings which indeed the author DOES have on her website. But I had not taken the time to read. It triggered me for the whole day and I hadn’t even read the whole scene.
I DNF’d it at that point.
Overall the author has a nice writing style and I would read something that was milder in content. But because of my experience over all I’d give it a 2 stars I suppose

🌟 Received as an A R C 🌟 • Let me just say, "@E.B.Slayer, congratulations on your new book. The cover is amazing." • Evolution is a trilogy series with evolution as the first book. The story contains spicy slow burn, a plus-size black female lead, and a diverse romance. • Sasha Williams leaves her OLD life behind to escape her abusive ex-boyfriend by taking a leap of faith and moving across the world to Switzerland. • Stranded at a train station and had to find another way to her new home she meets Richard "Ricky" Bell. • I truly enjoyed this story! Sasha development throughout the story is amazing. Going from an abusive relationship and having trauma into a woman who is willing to slow trust and start to LOVE again. • Ricky is a perfect man who is truly understanding of Sasha's needs and doesn't try to push into something she doesn't want and understand her past situation. • There are TW, but the author does a great job mentioning them before you start reading. • I highly recommend this book.
This book was so refreshingly fantastic and spellbinding! It had everything I could ever want in a book with a great storyline line and just enough tension and angst to have me on the edge of my seat at all times!
I loved for the moments we saw Rickart and I was never disappointed when the two of them were together! Even the slightly altered English to make up for their accents had me even more l immersed in the story! I appreciated without having to imagine their accents! It was little things like that as well as the amazing pace and juicy story telling that had me in reader heaven!
I have already finished book 2 but I had to come here and give a glowing review! I don’t have any complaints except for maybe longer and more frequent sexy scenes, because WHEW the chemistry on these 2, but I’m satisfied wholly and completely! Sasha and Rickart completely stole my heart and I can’t wait for book 3. A true masterpiece…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I will say that while I did enjoy part one of this trilogy, I did find myself at some points wanting to throw my Kindel. This was primarily due to Sasha and her trauma that she hadn't worked through and how she allowed it to sometimes over run common sense. And I'm not saying that this is something she should've just gotten over but it made some scenes frustrating like when Ricky just simply wanted to stay indoors cause he knew that Sasha wasn't comfortable with crowds. Sasha and Ricky are sweet but part of me wishes that there was more of a friendship there first before the romance. I feel like a friendship first would've made more sense with everything that Sasha had previously been through. I'm excited for the rest of this series and see where it goes.
Woooweee! It’s been a long time since I’ve read a story with absolute substance. It was well needed in my life. The location, the plot, the trauma, the journey to healing…all of it was amazing. I rate this 4.5 just because of the cliff hanger. This book had my mouth open and my mind hooked just from the motorcycle scene. I want a Rickart. He’s patient, loving, protective and add hot lumberjack to the mix. Yes please. Surprisingly, Sasha didn’t get on my nerves like most people in her situation do in these romance stories. The Ms. Slayer did a wonderful job of fleshing out the heroine. I understood why she did the things she did. Honestly I usually hate single person pov, but got over it in this book because it was just that good. Off to write my review for the next book in this series. Trust me read them!
This book addresses slot issues black women have to deal with in their lives that never get addressed because black women are judged being so strong they suppose to handle their problems like a champ a lone and keep living while silently living in pain. I love how this author displayed the issues but show a way to overcome and meet each issue head on. This book is worth it's weight in gold. Because it shows that black women can can be strong and weak at the same time but over come those weaknesses by admitting that they are there in their life and face them and not hide them. This book is a must read. It brings a true picture of the characters selves that some people today hide from the world. I look forward to the next book. As always happy reading😘
She was beyond broken, she was an orphan, never knew her parents or even where she came from, dropped off at a church as a baby… later on been abused by so many people and finally by a boyfriend for 3 years. 😢 Finally escaped to a small town in Switzerland … where she met Herr Bell aka Rikart ( Richard) who rescued her when she was stranded. Sometimes, fate placed people together in strange ways… It a long hard road ahead, Ricky will show the patience of a saint to reach Sasha and for Sasha to trust again… There will be a lot twists and turns and circumstances that will put them to the test. Hopefully, love will prevail!! 😉 I love Ricky! And Sasha I you are more than worthy!
This was my first time reading anything by this author and for me it was just ok. I was intrigued enough to purchase the book however I must say that I had skipped a good amount of pages. There seemed to be a lot of nothing to fill up the pages. I found the main character Sasha was weak, whiny and immature. Ricky seemed to always be apologizing for something to Sasha, it was quite frustrating. Although I am curious I am not sure if I will be purchasing the next book. If you remove all of the fluff there probably would be no need for a book 2 let alone a book 3.
I was super excited to receive an ARC copy of this book to read- I've been waiting for this for a long time! Not your average romance novel, Evolution handles some difficult topics and at times can be a difficult read- but at other times, is warm, comforting, and frankly, damn sexy. While it is the first in a trilogy it doesn't leave readers hanging, with a satisfying conclusion that will still leave you wanting more. I can't wait to see how Sasha continues to grow in the next book- when's it coming out, again?!
Set in Switzerland, we follow Sasha (and her yellow Vespa) on a journey of self-discovery alongside lumberjack Ricky Bell. While areas of the prose left something to be desired in its eloquence, this was by and large a very heartwarming romance that tackles some difficult topics! The author has worked hard to craft a tale that is not soon forgotten. I recommend for romance fans who enjoy a diverse romance, single POV, spicy slow burn, and an international small town as its backdrop. Congrats to the author!
So I was an early reader and then an ARC reader for this and I really enjoyed the story progressing with multiple layers of tension and reward throughout the text. I'm not primarily a romance reader at all, but I highly recommend this for anyone who just enjoys a good character driven story regardless of genre. Oh and the sex scenes were fun to read too.
This was a great story, and the characters were very entertaining. The chemistry between Sasha and Ricky was smoking hot 🔥 Their journey is one for the books, a growing love story. I look forward to reading the remainder of the series. I highly recommend this book to my fellow romance readers. You will not be disappointed.
