Unlike most people who set goals for themselves, Alexander Myles had a very specific interpretation of success. His sister was a world-renowned neurosurgeon, and his brother was a highly decorated Navy F-18 pilot. While his siblings were undoubtedly among the best in their selected fields of expertise, all of that meant nothing to Alexander because, aside from their direct family members and closest friends, no one even knew who they were. Although Alex had no idea which of his yet to be monumental achievements would be the one to launch him on his road to success, that was of little concern to him because the path was irrelevant, as long as the destination fulfilled his desire... to be famous. When he sets out in search of his destiny, driving the 1968 Chevy Impala he inherited from his father, he discovers the car has a history all its own, and that there was a reason no one other than his father had ever driven it. As Alex reaches for his goals of fame and fortune, he finds love along the way, but there are those who live to turn his dreams into a nightmare, that even a classic muscle car known as The Black Phantom, cannot outrun.

Firstly I would like to thank the author for writing this interesting book. The book revolves around the protagonist, Alexander Myles. Alex is one of those characters as described by the author, who wanted success and fame and realised that the job that he was (currently) doing was not up to his satisfaction, the job of platinum flooring. His siblings, however, were experts in their own fields. They were achievers, loved and approved by everyone.
Alex, wanted to change everything, once and for all. The twists started taking place when his parents died and he finally got to explore his father's car- 1968 Chevy Impala also known as the Black Phantom. His father never let anyone touch it, it was however a precious asset for Alex once he started his voyage. The car had its own history, the car was about to change Alex's destination. His destination included love, a small hint and some other elements as well. Do read the book, to know more about it.
Fame- a four lettered word, so well described by the author and in a very unique way. Fame is not a cup of tea or something that could be acquired easily, it comes with its own risk factors and consequences. Fame is something that is earned, one could not just label themselves famous in the eyes of others, it requires hardwork and dedication, it requires sacrifices and it also comes with a cost. Nothing, in this world is free of cost.
Coming back to the story, Alex experienced different things during the car drive. It was a blend of various emotions that brought back his father's past and also helped Alex have insight about self discovery and introspection of one's own flaws and capabilities. The book also included knowledge and information about car races.
I found the plot, intriguing, the narration was simple and all the characters played their roles well, especially the car! I'll recommend the book.
Famous by Riano McFarland is an engaging novel that explores the theme of fame and identity. The protagonist, Alex, embarks on a quest to achieve fame after his father’s death. He quits his job and drives his father’s prized Impala from Albuquerque to California, hoping to find his destiny. Along the way, he encounters people who recognize his father and his father’s legendary black Impala. They reveal to him the hidden aspects of his father’s life as a race car mechanic, known as Fast Bill. Alex learns about his father’s skills, achievements, and relationships in the racing world, where he was respected and admired by many famous drivers. Through pursuing his father’s passion for racing, Alex uncovers the astonishing family secret his father had guarded since the 70’s. He connects with relatives and inherits a wealth of history he was unaware of. The book even includes a meet-cute love story. Alex finds his true love after an illegal road race. In turn, he helps her become famous. This novel combines an intriguing plot, a compelling character arc, and a fascinating glimpse into the technology and culture of racing. However, the novel suffers from some flaws in the writing style and structure. The narration is inconsistent, which disrupts the flow of the story. The novel also lacks a satisfying conclusion, as it abruptly transitions to an epilogue in the final chapter. Despite these shortcomings, Famous by Riano McFarland is a novel that will appeal to readers who enjoy cars or racing, or who are interested in the concept of fame and its consequences. The novel is a fast-paced and entertaining read that offers a unique perspective on family relationships and a personal journey of discovery.
I just finished this latest work from Riano McFarland and I was blown away! I read the The Journal and loved it, but this book was remarkable. Riano portrayed Alexander Myles in a most compassionate light, but also as the man that is...tough, resourceful and full of life. I could not, nor did I want, to put this book down. McFarland’s writing is lyrical, poignant and quite simply breathtaking. I am already looking forward to his next endeavor. A marvelous story that should not be missed!
The glorious setting and descriptions of the Alexander’s journey was so wonderfully alive in this book, it was so easy to feel what the author wanted the reader to get a sense of through his writing. I was mesmerized by the setting, the characters, and the story right from the beginning. My measly descriptions could never do this book justice.
This was an exceptionally well-written novel, full of beautiful descriptions of Alex’s prized possession, and very exciting adventures. He is an extraordinarily courageous man who Riano McFarland brings to life in such a way that it thoroughly captivates the imagination of the reader. Never once did the story waver and was evenly paced, a very engaging read.
What I love about authors is they all have the same 26 letters to work with. Some weave them into a book that will put you to sleep, some weave them into a book that is filled with so much tension you can't put it down and some weave them into a book that is comfortable, informative and invents a world you wouldn't mind being a part of. I would have loved to be Alexander's friend! Paula McLain, I think you have another bestseller on your hands!

This book is a treasure trove of surprises. For someone who thinks they're in for a mindless muscle-car manuscript, you are undoubtedly judging this amazing book by its cover. While the rarity of a 1968 Chevy Impala is made clear beyond all doubt, the story behind this particular car has far more layers than I would ever have suspected. Both Alexander Myles and the Impala are traveling a road that will take them on a path to discovery and a realization that some secrets far more important than the fame that revealing them could bring. By inheriting a four-wheeled racing icon, Alexander assumes he'll be choosing his own journey and determining his own fate, only to discover that fame sometimes comes with a price that doesn't include the blood, sweat, and tears tax that everyone reaching for such notoriety must endure. Overall, this book reveals that selflessness trumps selfishness, and that by seeking to enlighten others and call attention to a greater narrative, the success one experiences can dwarf even the most ambitious of expectations one might envision for themselves. Along his journey of discovery, Alex finds love, camaraderie, and a family bond that brings with it a danger that has been hibernating for decades, waiting to strike and exact vengeance. FAMOUS! is a thrill-ride that's even faster than the Legendary Black Phantom, and one I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys multi-layered stories, with compelling characters, and an unexpectedly deep dive into self-discovery.
With a deep longing for recognition and remembrance, Alex embarks on a transformative journey that unveils the unexpected consequences that fame can bring.
McFarland's skillful characterization of Alexander Myles allows readers to immerse themselves in his complex world, navigating the multifaceted nature of his ambitions. In "Famous," McFarland fearlessly explores the darker facets of the pursuit of fame, introducing characters who manipulate and undermine Alex's desires. This infusion of suspense and intrigue keeps readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly speculating about the true motivations and intentions of these characters.
