ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಡೆಯುವ ಅಕ್ರಮ ನಡೆಸುವುದು. ಬಡವರ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರೇ ಹಾಕುವುದು ಇಂದು ನಿನ್ನೆಯದಲ್ಲ. ಅದರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸಮೃದ್ಧ ಮಲೆನಾಡು ಈ ಹಗಲು ದರೋಡೆಕೋರರ ನೆಚ್ಚಿನ ತಾಣ.
ಇದೇ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟು ಕೊಂಡು ಮಲೆನಾಡಿನ ಹೃದಯ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಕತೆ ಇರುವ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಇದು. ಇದು ಮರಿಯಪ್ಪನ ಕತೆ ಒಂದೇ ಅಲ್ಲ... ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಸರದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಚೆಲ್ಲಾಟ ಶುರು ಆಗುತ್ತದೆಯೋ ಅಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಇಂತಹದ್ದೇ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಕತೆಗಳಿವೆ

ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ ಎಂಬಾ ಹೆಬ್ಬಾವು. ನಾನು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಬೆಳೆದ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ನುಂಗಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನಾನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದವಳು. ಇವತ್ತಿಗೂ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗೆ ತವರಿದೆ, ತವರು ಮನೆ ಇದೆ... ಆದರೆ ಅದು ನನ್ನ ತವರೆಂಬ ಬಾವ ಹುಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾನು ಆಡಿ ಬೆಳದ ಅಂಗಳ ನನ್ನ ನೆನಪಿನಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಯಾವುದೋ ಹಾಳು ಹಂಪಿಗೆ ಹೋದ ಹಾಗೆ ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ...ಈ ಕತೆ ನನ್ನನು ತುಂಬಾ ಕಾಡಿಸಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿತು.
