With over a million books in print, Pamela Britton likes to call herself the best known author nobody’s ever heard of. Of course, that’s begun to change thanks to a certain licensing agreement with that little racing organization known as NASCAR.
Nowadays it’s not unusual to hear her books being discussed by the likes of Jay Leno, Keith Olbermann, or Stephen Colbert. Flip open a magazine and you might read about her, too, in Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly, or Southwest Airlines’ Spirit Magazine. Channel surf and you might see her on CNN, ESPN, ABC or NBC.
But before the glitz and glamour of NASCAR, Pamela wrote books that were frequently voted the best of the best by The Detroit Free Press, Barnes & Noble (two years in a row) and RT BOOKclub Magazine. She’s won numerous writing awards, including the National Reader’s Choice Award, and a nomination for Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart and the Holt Medallion.
When not following the race circuit, Pamela writes full-time from her ranch in Northern California where she lives with her husband, daughter and, at last count, twenty-one four-legged friends.
If you'd like to chat with Pamela you can find her on her myspace where she loves to hangout with her readers.
I don't expect much from Harlequin novels and I read them when I'm in the mood for something light and breezy and quick. That said, I was disappointed with this book. It started off kind of cute, I enjoyed the lead character (Kristen) at first. She was quirky and kind of nerdy cute, but that all changed. The Lightning McQueen part at the start made me laugh. Once the romance started, the novel fell apart for me. I despised the behavior of Kristen and both of her love interests. Kristen repeatedly tells both of them she's not interested and they both force themselves on her. Todd tricks her by flying her out to him, and Matt tricks her into a "bet" on a first date (and none of this is done in a cute way, it's all very cavemanish "I want you and don't care if you don't want me back! I know you want me and I will force you to kiss me to prove it!!"). Speaking of that first date, Kristen flips out completely on Matt because he tries to do something nice for her and then does a 180 and has sex with him (on the first date). Then Kristen ends up dumping Matt and starts dating Todd. Though she thinks they're "just friends" despite everything that had happened between them a few weeks prior (where he practically forced himself on her several times). I just didn't like it at all. I've read some of her other books and they were much better, so I was surprised at how much I disliked the characters in this book.
Kirsten is an engineer who's been a chance at doing something she loves - designing cars for NASCAR. She was a promising driver herself, but then after an accident that killed her sister and crippled her, she never drove again. Now, she's determined to succeed. Everything would've been easier if it weren't for her boss, Matt.
Matt is seriously attracted to Kirsten. And he didn't become one of the richest men in America for not going after something he wants. Even the fact that he has competition (a driver Todd) for Kirsten doesn't worry him a bit.
I hated Kirsten, even more than the heroine from the previous book On The Edge. In the first half she was okay, but then in the second half... First she breaks up with Matt, that can even be explained, he does spend a lot of time working, but she knew what she was getting into from the start, what did she expect that he will miraculously change? Then she starts going out with Todd seemingly unaware that he has feelings for her, they are only friends. Yeah, right. She crushed him and I hated her for it.
Matt is an okay guy. And I like his idea for relaxation - buy a NASCAR team when your doctor tell you to take it easy. :-)
To The Limit by Pamela Britton NASCAR #4 Kristen McKenna lost the things she loved most in her childhood after a tragic accident. Since then she left her old dreams behind and enjoys her engineering job at Knight Enterprises. Then one day her boss dropped from the sky and offered a job that was a dream come true, working in the field that didn’t always welcome women, racing.
Mathew Knight needed to slow his life down. He had built his fortune from scratch and had become a bit of a workaholic, until his doctor ordered him to relax. What better way of relaxing than buying a racing team? He didn’t know diddly squat about NASCAR, but he found that he had an employee that could help him. Who knew she’d help him in so many ways beyond racing?
The fourth book in this series is as exciting as the first three. Kristen never thought of herself as very attractive and yet it seems around the racetrack she’s a man magnet. And the race is on to see who will win her heart. I personally loved the epilogue, it brought in all the folks we met in the first three books. There are seven books in this series. **Mild language http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
This is the fourth book in the NASCAR romance series written by Pamela Britton. This book features Kristen McKenna and Mathew Knight. Mathew recently purchased a NASCAR race team and he wants Kristen to be the engineering consultant for Knight Enterprises Motorsports. Kristen McKenna quickly became a rising young star in open-wheeled racing, until an accident off-track took the life of her younger sister, and left her with a serious leg injury.
We have another interesting character in Todd Peters. He's the number one driver for Knight's new team and a man usually accompanied by a tall, gorgeous blonde. He puts the moves on Kristen for his own reason and while there's a weak attempt to make readers guess which one she will choose, it seemed obvious to me from the start.
It's a fun, lighthearted racing romance story that is pretty formulaic. The racing action was well written and I did enjoy the rush both guys gave to Kristen. There was a nice epilogue that gave readers an updates on the couples from the previous books. Another fast, easy read for a challenge that needed an auto racing tag.

I felt this one in the series was just ok. I didn't feel the connection about any of the characters with one another. I didn't think she wrote chemistry with the three lead characters at all. I didn't understand why the female lead ended up where she did when nothing was truly settled. As always I enjoyed the behind the scenes of Nascar storyline with the new development of the rear deck lid. I liked the interplay between one of the lead male characters and his bodyguard. Overall, it continues with Ms. Britton's Nascar world and gives you updates on past couples. It's an ok book but definitely don't start reading the series with this book.
I'm a new Nascar fan. As such, how could I resist Harlequin's Nascar series? I wasn't expecting much, genre romances are what they are. Fun, mindless, feel-good entertainment. And this one had spots of fun, didn't take a tight focus to read and yeah, it made me feel good at the inevitable happy ending. So in that it was a success. My favorite character, however, was not the hero, the heroine or even the second male lead - nope, it was the hero's bodyguard. HE was the one I wanted to know more about. *grin*
I don't usually read paperback romances... but a friend showed me this "Nascar library" series of romances and I was intrigued - a NASCAR romance!? I enjoyed reading this on my vacation. Main character was a strong female who's an engineer designing racecars - she has 2 guys interested in her (both very different - one is a driver; one a billionaire who owns the raceteam) and she needs to figure who she's interested in. For the type of book it is, I gave it 4 stars - I found it enjoyable.
I really liked this little NASCAR romance until about 3/4 of the way through, when I realized she was going to pick the wrong guy. Not that the other guy was exactly a stellar choice, either. Still, until her amazingly bad choices when it came to the men in her life, Kristen McKenna was a pretty awesome heroine - what, with her super intellect and snarky mouth.
A cute fluffy romance. Not very descriptive in the romance department, by page 200 the leading lady had only kissed two of the main characters. But it did have one of the best quotes I have seen in a long time, "She's smokin'. Like one of those librarian chicks, all prim and proper on the outside, but probably a real wild woman in bed."
Love Pamela Britton's Nascar books. I've managed to read them out of order lol so I already knew which guy "Kristen" would choose in the end but even knowing, it still had me wondering what would happen throughout the book. cute read :)
Chick lit based on NASCAR. I enjoyed it. Light easy read about a woman engineer who joins a successful NASCAR team and the owner and driver both fall for her.
I hate stories with a bad/unhappy ending. I felt so horribly pitiful in the ending. It was my first Britton book and I can honestly say I do want to read the next one in the series. 3/5 stars.
I'm sure car-racing enthusiasts would rate this book higher, but since I'm not one, I will just say that this was an OK read for me, but I won't be reading any more of this series.
