A terrible bore, a dreadful read, all with a tempting lure for the reader to stop turning the pages and toss this horrendous book into the bin. I embarked on my journey through this book in an attempt to educate myself beyond the realms of my preferred discipline - economics - and dabble in a foreign one, physics. Nevertheless, the attempt being a vain one, it left me tragically disappointed and unsatisfied.
The author does a poor job in conveying the beauty and lure of what is widely considered as the holy discipline - physics. What was known as the remarkable field in which great men such as Newton and Galileo dedicated their energy and intellect to, simply bores the reader's mind in this book. Simple physics concepts are transformed into abhorrent bores, and fascinating scientific phenomena emerge as convoluted texts. What a terrible sin committed by the author through the publication of this book - the tarnishing of one of the most revered academic disciplines that ever existed!
Perhaps it is time to return to the classic texts, instead of befuddling one's mind with scribbles by second-rate physicists. The Principia awaits me. Better to return to where it all started, the spark that ignited the hallowed revolution of natural philosophy.
