Fallen - 3.5 stars
I liked the first book in the series. It is a mystery of sorts as we are introduced with some characters but we don't know what to make of them. As the book progresses, we obviously get the gist of the plot but there aren't a lot of answer by the end of the first book.
Torment - 2 stars
Torment is aptly titled and my least liked of the series. I really hated the slow-plot and all the characters became stupid too.
Passion - 3 stars
Passion was not bad to read. Writing wasn't the best and it had a lot of errors but I actually enjoyed the plot involving past lives and actually travelling there. Luce was still pretty stupid. I loved Cameron in this the most even though he was barely there. I wish he were there more. I also liked Daniel's POV and started to like him again after not liking him in Torment.
Rapture - 4.5 stars
My fav of the series. I loved Daniel, Cam, Ari and Roland in this book. I couldn't get enough of any of them and I wanted more and I wish the author had done such a good job in the previous books as well. I almost cried at the end.

With out giving away any spoilers, I'd have to say this book series is quite amazing. I read all but one, Fallen in Love, simply because I didn't want any side tracking from the initial story.
My little run down version of the novel in a paragraph:
The novels entail about a forbidden love far from earthly acknowledgement and follows the story of two young lovers and their efforts at restoring peace to the world whilst trying to savour moments of their time together. With the agony of constant beings and forces pulling them apart but paining them together, the bitter-sweet desire of their meetings reveal a mind boggling twist which reveal the secret she had been hiding from herself... And whether they meet and love for the last time is left to fate rather than destiny.
Hehehe. How was that? A pathetic attempt at luring fellow readers. :D
Mini-review:
Honestly, I think the beginning of the Fallen book could've done a better job at capturing the reader, I believe the first paragraph should always edge the reader for more but instead it created a little uncertainty and confusion. That's just my perspective and so it made me put off my reading for quite some time. After actually getting a chance to read on, it got a little difficult to put down. Only after I had completed the first novel did I realise Kate's intent of that.
So, the story begins with an introduction into the characters and I believe Lauren Kate did a good job at portraying each of the characters. I was instantly able to place features and faces to the names. Written beautifully, the story unravelled uniquely but at times I lost track due to the constant dramatical change of the time setting. The only true downside to this book series is that I would have loved for a little heavy reading on their romance. I'm that kind of reader. I love a little heart settling romance and I wasn't indulged into their romance as I wish I could have been. With a love worth sinking deeply into, these novels would have been great! None-the-less, I would suggest this book series for young adults wanting a steady read.
I hope I've convinced a few people to consider the book series. Its a great story to add to the collection & it has great perspective and insight into the 'fantasy' aspect of the existence of the human and the immortal realm.

Fellow explorers of YA literature, beware of resting your weary heads here! You may have been lured by the atmospheric cover art or the predominantly positive reviews but approach with caution!
I have read all four of the main books in this series (Fallen, Torment, Passion & Rapture). I thought the first book, Fallen, was better than the rest, in much the same way that I think snails are better than slugs. The last book, Rapture, was almost unbearable.
Why would I read a full series of books which I disliked so much? Well that is a terrible tale of woe; a tale of deserted, weather-beaten islands, ill-preparedness and a new kindle with nothing but Lauren Kate on offer. The series had been recommended by a friend who usually has very similar taste, alas, she withheld an important bit of information – she had only read the first book. By the time I finished Rapture I realised that my time would have been better spent dancing in the rain or wandering, Heathcliffe-style, across the forsaken moors at the dead of night.
I didn’t like any of the characters with the exception of Cam, a demon who resided in the naughty corner of the mangled, central love-triangle. In the boring corner was Dreary Daniel the Fallen Angel and for the top of the triangle, where most authors choose to pin their star-attraction, Lauren Kate chose Moosey-Lucy (Luce). There is not an awful lot I can say about Daniel and Luce as they inspired nothing but apathy and occasional irritation. Luce was a love-sick, female ‘protagonist’ who spent most of the book prostrating herself before Daniel and, if she ever ventured to do something of her own accord, it was invariably idiotic. Throughout all of the books Daniel reminded me of the scene in Gone with the Wind when Rhett Butler finally gets sick of Scarlet O’Hara and says, “You are tired, you’d better go to bed.” Daniel might as well have just repeated this line every time he spoke to Luce, such was his dismissive attitude towards her abilities (beyond that of being his pin-up girl) and whilst I can sympathise, given that she was a liability, he was supposed to love and respect her.
Technically, the writing wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good enough to make up for the tenuous story, the careless ending, the cardboard-cut-out characters or the regressive portrayal of both men and women. For those who really want to give this series a go, my advice would be to try the first one, if you love it, as many have done before you, then ‘Good luck and Godspeed my friend’! If not, then do not carry on with hope in your heart – it does not improve and you will only be hurting yourself.

My story begins on Friday 5th October 2012 when I went to visit my grandmother in her nursing home for our regular gossip and crossword attempt. When leaving the property I noticed there was a small bookshelf in the entrance hall, it had about twenty second-hand books on it with a notice attached for 'book swaps' or donations. I glanced over the titles, some I've read before, others didn't really interest me....... Then I saw it, a dark cover with a girl on the front who had beautiful dark hair..... Fallen!!
This book caught my eye instantly, it had been well read - the spine was split and the pages were curled at the edge (I have OCD when it comes to books, I like them to be immaculate condition and all my friends laugh because I never lend my copies out) but I had to take it home, it's like the book choose me and not the other way round.
I quickly realised the book was a series and rushed out to buy the others the next day. I read all four books in a week. ( I don't think I did any housework in this time, I had a weeks worth of washing in my laundry basket to prove it)
The books were an ultimate love story, they were tragic, dark and intense but gave me hopeful warmth in my soul. When I read the chapter of Luce and Daniel saying goodbye for the last time, I actually cried.
I have always believed 'if a writer can make you feel that the book you are reading was only written solely for you, then it must be treasured for a lifetime'.
My nan passed away last year and I am re-reading the fallen series currently, the tatty old book from the nursing home will forever be on my bookshelf.

What a great mystery! No clue where this book was going until the last 50 pages! Definitely a MUST read and can’t wait to buy the second one!

I might have really liked the whole series if it were condensed to book 1 and 4. As is, the story took much too long to unfold and felt like it dragged on.
It didn't help that I never cared for Luce. Her uncertainty and constant need for reassurance is something I much rather have done without. Daniel was alright, I liked his character well enough even though I didn't feel the author did his character justice. He could have been a little more of the focus and helped draw people in to the story.
The whole angels versus demons thing was actually written in a manner that did not turn me off. As far as Sci-Fi goes, I think she did well in that area. The thing is, she focused on all the wrong mundane time consuming things that did nothing to contribute to how good this story could have actually been.
Bottom line, it's ok. Not horrible, but not something I would recommend either. If you are interested in reading it, I would do so from the library as I would have hated to spend my money on this.

I highly recommend this. Lauren Kate is an exceptional author who provided such a beautiful and worthwhile story with very surprising, overwhelming and out of the box plot twists.

I have read these books over a dozen times, at least, and off course, just reread it again. And each time I finish the series, I'm itching to just start over and read it again. I love every single moment of every single book in this series, the characters are very developed and I love how we get to see background information of the characters at certain points in the series. The story contains fantasy, mystery, romance, drama, angst, a bit of horror even, showing us what it is like to discover who you are in a whirlwind journey, that for me, could have gone of forever. This series is my all time favorite book series, hands down! Definitely recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy, romance and a bit of the rest mixed in.

The Fallen Series was one of the first series I read during my earlier years. I've recently reread it again to revisit the feeling I had the first time while reading it. The series does not disappoint. It brought satisfaction to my over romantic side. This series is so sweet, but all the more thrilling as Lauren Kate eases the reader into a heart throbbing, sweep-me-off-my-feet-then-stab-me-in-the-heart ending. It'll have you wanting more with each flip of the page. I'll definitely take the liberty or reading the Fall Series a third time in the near future because that's JUST how good the story is. Thank you, Lauren Kate for such an amazing read!

Two words: EMOTIONAL. ROLLERCOASTER.
That just about sums the whole thing.
I've read all 5 books. (Fallen, Torment, Passion, Fallen in Love, and Rapture) so it's probably the longest series i've gotten mixed up with since Twilight. Okay *deep breath* so...
*BOOK 1 (Fallen):
What can I say? I'm a sucker when it comes to the "We've met before" type of romances. I enjoyed my stay at Sword & Cross even though it was too brief. Instantly fell in love with Daniel too <3 Although Cam was supposed to be his "rival" I didn't hate Cam, and that is A FIRST. I don't recall ever having NOT hated the third party in relationships before. It's just, he has freaking BLACK HAIR AND GREEN EYES, okay?! Don't judge me. Plus, he has that bad boy appeal-complete opposite of Daniel who's got BLONDE HAIR AND grayish VIOLET EYES. WOW. Is that even physically possible?
What I hate is how Miss Sophia went from being sweet librarian to evil murderess. I mean, WHERE DID THAT COME FROM? There wasn't ANY indication as to her true nature. I did NOT see that coming. Kind of bad character development, honestly.
Also, I have to ask because these questions have been on my mind since the first book and I still don't have answers to them-What does Cam really want with Luce? Why did he say (in the 2nd book) that dying was a better fate for her? What exactly was he apologizing for in the last book? How were they friends way back then? What happened to him after the series? Ok all my inquiries involve him. *sigh*
*Book 2 (Torment) a.k.a. HATE THIS BOOK
I have never been MORE angry with Lucinda Price than here in this book. She DOUBTS Daniel. She BETRAYS Daniel. She "finds comfort in some other guy". She COMPLAINS about everything. She ISN'T CONVINCED of their love. She BLAMES Daniel for her misfortunes. She FIGHTS with him constantly. And most of all, SHE FREAKING KISSED ANOTHER GUY AND DANIEL SAW IT. Gawd I bawled at that part. I mean, he was out busting his ass to protect her and what does she do? Flirts with the first guy who listens to her unending drama. ASDFGHJKL. Shoreline was described as a heavenly school but I prefer Sword & Cross. Wish they'd just stayed there. Oh and Miles creating an illusion of Luce-supposedly meaning he loves her-puke. Tell you what, read the 4th book and we'll see just how much he loves her. UGH.
*Book 3 (Passion) FAVORITE BOOK in the series
Luce travels inside announcers back to her pasts. Meeting Daniel over and over again was amazing. Gushed so much. Not to mention BILL! Oh if i'd have known who he really was from the beginning-though I did suspect-I would have paid more attention to him 3 It must have been difficult for him to travel all that way, taking care of Lucinda and showing her how strong Daniel's love for her was...My heart is breaking all over again.
Again with the poor character development. Like seriously, the author has a bad habit of making characters change suddenly, out of nowhere. Bill the funny caring gargoyle is actually *******??? (<--spoiler :3) That was weird. You can't just do that. It almost makes no sense. Why would he work so hard to HELP CONVINCE Luce of true love if he was---*sigh* never mind.
*Book 4 (Fallen in Love) WORST.
I was like "SO WHAT?" the whole time. It was not essential to the plot. But then I found out that it's just a 3.5 not a 4. Basically just a little background. That would explain a lot. Oh and by the way, MILES AND SHELBY FALL IN LOVE HERE SO HA! He doesn't love Luce that much then HAHAHA. You can skip this if you want, it only has 150 pages of valentine's day stuff.
*Book 5 (Rapture)
LUCIFER.
Okay This is probably the book in the series that gave me the MOST FEELS. I did not know I could still feel that much. They battered my heart huhuhu. Amazing how everything was described in detail. Very imaginative. BRAVO. Lauren Kate went all out. I was ALMOST convinced that the events actually happened. Wow. SO MANY EPIPHANIES. I CAN'T EVEN. 90% of my questions were answered here. I was blown away, shocked. WOAH WOAH WOAH. First part was interesting enough but once you start understanding the truth, just ASDFGHJKL. I WAS CRYING A LOT BECAUSE--BECAUSE...
UGH! HOW could you do this to me? I was already in love with Daniel. HOW COULD YOU MAKE ME SHIP LUCINDA WITH SOMEONE ELSE?! HOW COULD YOU MAKE ME FALL IN *shudder* LOVE WITH FREAKING LUCIFER?! OH GOD THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME. (We're talking fiction btw). And because of that, even though I SHOULD have been happy with the ending-I WASN'T. BECAUSE LUCIFER x LUCINDA ASDFGHJKL HUHUHU She was SO cold to him 3 I ACHE. I ACHE!!! Felt so sorry for him :'( I hope i'm not the only one~

I don't like Luce very much. She's had 4 hot guys head over heels in love with her and she keeps screwing up. She's hurt them all. UGH. SO FRUSTRATING. AND She chose to leave all her friends behind-literally forget about them-even her family, to be reborn AGAIN for the LAST time because of LOVE. *sigh* Whatever. When you think about it: *SPOILER*
Her first love was Lucifer, she found a problem in their relationship then cried and was comforted by Daniel-her second and apparently true love. Don't you think it's a bit obvious that she always goes for guys who comfort her while she's still in a relationship? Yeah i'm talking about Miles.
I'm still sad that it's over :( it was a wonderful world and I miss the ones that died.

Very imaginative. BRAVO. Lauren Kate went all out. I was ALMOST convinced that the events actually happened. Wow. SO MANY EPIPHANIES. I CAN'T EVEN. 90% of my questions were answered here. I was blown away, shocked. WOAH WOAH WOAH. First part was interesting enough but once you start understanding the truth, just ASDFGHJKL. I WAS CRYING A LOT BECAUSE--BECAUSE...
UGH! HOW could you do this to me? I was already in love with Daniel. HOW COULD YOU MAKE ME SHIP LUCINDA WITH SOMEONE ELSE?! HOW COULD YOU MAKE ME FALL IN *shudder* LOVE WITH FREAKING LUCIFER?! OH GOD THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME. (We're talking fiction btw). And because of that, even though I SHOULD have been happy with the ending-I WASN'T. BECAUSE LUCIFER x LUCINDA ASDFGHJKL HUHUHU She was SO cold to him 3 I ACHE. I ACHE!!! Felt so sorry for him :'( I hope i'm not the only one~

I don't like Luce very much. She's had 4 hot guys head over heels in love with her and she keeps screwing up. She's hurt them all. UGH. SO FRUSTRATING. AND She chose to leave all her friends behind-literally forget about them-even her family, to be reborn AGAIN for the LAST time because of LOVE. *sigh* Whatever. When you think about it: *SPOILER*
Her first love was Lucifer, she found a problem in their relationship then cried and was comforted by Daniel-her second and apparently true love. Don't you think it's a bit obvious that she always goes for guys who comfort her while she's still in a relationship? Yeah i'm talking about Miles.
I'm still sad that it's over :( it was a wonderful world and I miss the ones that died.

No matter how hard I tried to connect with Lucinda I just did not get her at all. I thought her overall character was off-putting making the story less than magical.

This series was kind of a rollercoaster. Have you seen The Seven Deadly Sins? If so, say hello to parallel universe Elizabeth and Meliodas. The story was fun to try to unfold as things progressed. I enjoyed the read, but don't feel like I ever need to read it again. If you enjoy lovers needing to over come the odds, angels/demons, and a good old prep school location set up then you will enjoy this series as well.

I really enjoyed Luce & Daniels love story & learning of her first love. It was a great series with enjoyable characters, great settings & historical places, travel, angels, heaven, hell, time travel through history, mystery, love, friendship...what more could you ask for?

Review 2 years after reading:
At the time I gave this 2 to 3 Stars. Somehow these books have hung around in my subconscious and I sometimes find myself thinking of them. Seems to have stuck with me without my realising it, so I think that means I need to change it to 4, but I’m not quite obsessed enough for 5.

Absolutely loved the beginning of the story, but felt some parts were rushed and explanations were skipped. The end was a bit rushed as well, didn't find it was written too well either. But overall I did enjoy the story, just feel there was room for improvement.

Amazing story...
This collection keeps you hanging and wanting more at the end of each book. The third book is kind of slow but it is very relevant to the conclusion of the series. Looking forward to Unforgiven....

LOVE LOVE LOVE this series! Lauren Kate did an amazing job with this story. There was a need to find out what was going to happen in each and every book. The love story was captivating and is now one of favorites!

The first book was so good and by far the best one but after that it just wasnt any good anymore. I was looking for a romance building up under plot and it became just a bad plot with like no interaction between love interest :(
