About the author

Inés Arredondo was a Mexican writer In 1947 she enrolled in the department of Philosophy at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In 1958 she married the writer Tomás Segovia. She won the Xavier Villaurrutia Award in 1979 for her novel Río subterráneo.

El título es engañoso: en realidad no hay ningún ensayo. La mayoría del libro no es más que una compilación de reseñas de libros y obras de teatro escritas por Arredondo, hay unas notas para una biografía de Gilberto Owen y la tesis sobre Jorge Cuesta que Inés presentó para graduarse de Letras en la UNAM. Es una extraordinaria cuentista, pero este libro es absolutamente prescindible. Ah, la cereza del pastel: el prólogo de Claudia Albarrán es pésimo por autocomplaciente y chismoso.
