Edward Benjamin Britten, Baron Britten, Order of Merit, Order of the Companions of Honour, was an English composer, conductor, and pianist.

Britten's interests as a composer were wide-ranging; he produced important music in such varied genres as orchestral, choral, solo vocal, chamber and instrumental, as well as film music. He also took a great interest in writing music for children and amateur performers, and was a fine pianist and conductor.

Un estupendo libreto de Montagu Slater sobre el poema de George Crabbe, crea un universo fantasmatgórico y la figura, en el centro de éste, de Peter Grimes, nunca sabemos hasta qué punto un pobre hombre marcado por el rechazo ciego de la sociedad, o un asesino de niños real, que nunca podrá ser capaz de detener sus impulsos. Una gran ópera, en ese compromiso entre la obra accesible a todos y que no renuncia a los hallazgos de la vanguardia como un elemento compositivo más. Pero, sin duda, una gran obra musical, de una gran fuerza y una construcción soberbia.
