NASCAR #2

In The Groove

Rate this book
She wouldn't know a NASCAR star if he hit her with his car-and he just did.

Sarah was a kindergarten teacher until a sleazy ex-boyfriend got her fired. Now the only job she can find is driving the motor coach for racing star Lance Cooper...whoever that is. Sarah doesn't know a thing about NASCAR—she just needs a job, and she’s off to a rocky start when she doesn't even recognize her ultra-famous boss.

Lance can't help but notice Sarah’s sweet smile—and how seriously unimpressed she is with his fame. It's a reaction that piques his interest--that is, until things get a little too friendly on the bus. But Sarah has no interest in Lance's jet-setting life; she'd rather deal with spit balls than one super sexy race car driver.

But when things begin to heat up on the track, Sarah begins to wonder if life in the fast lane might be a detour worth taking—and if maybe, just maybe, she might be able to take a famous race car driver down a rocky road to find love.

The high-speed thrill of NASCAR racing meets the high-stakes game of love in this whirlwind romance from the author of Dangerous Curves!

With over a million books in print, Pamela Britton likes to call herself the best known author nobody’s ever heard of. Of course, that’s begun to change thanks to a certain licensing agreement with that little racing organization known as NASCAR.

Nowadays it’s not unusual to hear her books being discussed by the likes of Jay Leno, Keith Olbermann, or Stephen Colbert. Flip open a magazine and you might read about her, too, in Sports Illustrated, Entertainment Weekly, or Southwest Airlines’ Spirit Magazine. Channel surf and you might see her on CNN, ESPN, ABC or NBC.

But before the glitz and glamour of NASCAR, Pamela wrote books that were frequently voted the best of the best by The Detroit Free Press, Barnes & Noble (two years in a row) and RT BOOKclub Magazine. She’s won numerous writing awards, including the National Reader’s Choice Award, and a nomination for Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart and the Holt Medallion.

When not following the race circuit, Pamela writes full-time from her ranch in Northern California where she lives with her husband, daughter and, at last count, twenty-one four-legged friends.

If you'd like to chat with Pamela you can find her on her myspace where she loves to hangout with her readers.

I like the plot - a lot. Sarah is a kindergarten teacher who thanks to her ex-boyfriend and a bit of Photoshop was forced to quit her job. Hearing that there are a lot of teaching jobs available in North Carolina she pack everything she has and embarks on a trip. However, when she gets there she can't find a job, so when she sees an ad looking for a bus driver she jumps on it. If only her new boss wasn't so attractive.

Lance is immediately attracted to Sarah. She is so different from everybody he usually meets, she doesn't see his money and fame as the only thing about him. She sees the man behind it. And she helps him be better on the track. He has had problems concentrating on the race, but when she's there everything is much better.

I liked Lance, and the whole idea of a famous and incredibly hot driver falling for someone normal, not a supermodel or someone like that. Again, a lot details about NASCAR are woven into the book, and that helped me understand the world of racing better.

My only problem was Sarah running away. I know that the lifestyle Lance leads is really different form what she's used to, but when you love someone, you take the good with the bad, and it's not like Lance ever did anything to show that he isn't in love with her, or that he's bothered by the fact that she wasn't a part of the racing world.

And Sarah relationship with her mother is one of the things that I can't classify as either bad or good. On the one hand the fact that they reconciled is great, but the rather sudden turnaround her mother had, had me a little confused, and was a bit unbelievable if you ask me.

If you're a NASCAR fan, you'll love this book. Another excellent one in the series, and I can't get enough of them. The characters are great, the author knows what she's talking about so the characters don't look like idiots. And awesome joyride!

In the Groove is NASCAR series #2 by Pamela Britton. This book satisfies my Summer Reading Bingo Challenge for a Sports Romance. This is about first grade teacher Sarah who loses her job because her sleazy ex-boyfriend released photoshopped pictures of her that all her pupils' mothers saw. This ruined her reputation and she got fired. Down on her luck, Sarah applies for a job as a motor coach driver that turns out to be for Lance Cooper, famous NASCAR racing driver. Sarah doesn't know a thing about NASCAR and doesn't even recognize her new boss. Sparks fly between the two and Sarah learns that sometimes you have to risk it all in order to have everything. My favorite character was Sylvia Tingle, Sarah's mother - she was never a great mother to Sarah but she finally pulled through for her in the end.

Definitely Not my usual read and I must say that it wasn't in any way exciting but I can see how this can be such a comfort to read. Predictable storyline and guaranteed HEA -why not! We all need some of this especially in this uncertain times.

I don't know anything about cars and definitely have not watch any car races so this was sort of an interesting read even if I was finding it hard to imagine the car races & relevant descriptions. However, as that's not the point of the book, it's all good. I can still sympathise with the protagonist's issues and hung on for the ride as she learns to deal and come to the 'right' conclusion ;) Sweet & clean romance though, seriously, the guy is just unrealistic-ly perfect?!

Although there were parts where I thought this book dragged. I still enjoyed the funny romance. It had a lot of humor in the story and that made it unforgettable and unputdownable. I loved the characters and I think that even if you don't know or even enjoy anything about car racing this one will still be enjoyable! It was a great story to escape this trying time.

I really enjoyed this. I loved Lance and the romance in here was sweet. I wanted to smack Sarah in a few scenes, but still really liked her. I adore the Nascar element in here!

This book is so much fun. I read it during a couple of football games so the sports background noise added to the story.

Nice quick read with decent character development.

3 1/2 Stars! ~ After losing her job, her boyfriend and being publicly humiliated, Sarah Tingle packs her little bug of a car with all her belongings and moves to North Carolina hoping to find a teaching job, where she quickly learns that outsiders are not easily accepted as teachers. So she falls back on her bus driving experience and applies to drive Lance Cooper's coach. On the way to meet her new boss, her car breaks down, so she decides to walk the rest of the way, only to be struck down by a car. The driver of the car turns out to be none other than her new boss. Seems the sky is falling in on Sarah; she just can't seem to catch a break. Lance Cooper knows what being down on your luck is like. He's been on a losing streak for over a year now on the Nascar circuit, and he is really worried that he'll never get his magic back. He's immediately taken with Sarah. Her complete lack of knowledge of auto-racing and just what a huge celebrity he is, adds to her charm and attraction. Lance knows that Sarah could be a distraction he can't afford, but he can't help himself from inviting her to the track to watch him practice. Just having Sarah there seems to lift the doom and gloom nervousness Lance had been feeling behind the wheel and he starts to enjoy the feel of the speed again. Sarah has alot of baggage from past relationships, including a stalker ex-boyfriend and manipulative mother, and doesn't want to get involved with Lance. Lance has a tough time proving to Sarah that he's the real deal.

This was a really sweet read. I loved the dialogue between Lance and Sarah. From the start you can tell they're going to be great together. The behind the scene stalker story was rather lacking, and almost didn't seem necessary to the overall story, as if it were a second thought and then down played. For me this book started out raring to go and then sort of fizzled toward the end. I loved the characters, I just wish the conflict would have been better developed. And I was disappointed that the heat that was in the first book, was kept to luke warm and behind a closed door in this one. It almost seemed as if Ms. Britton did a re-write to remove the sizzle. Perhaps that was a prerequisite for the NASCAR affiliation? All in all, I did enjoy this very sweet and tender love story.

Very cute funny beginning. Liking Sarah so far she seems like a character who is normal and down to earth and easy to relate to.

Love the part where Sarah googles Lance's name and 900,000 results come up. She then googles her own name and 1 comes up for "Naked and naughty teachers". Hahah! Good stuff, the wonders of google.

When Sarah and Lance hook-up, the reader doesn't get to read about it just the author telling us they did which is strange for this type of book, I also thought the hook-up was a bit premature. The hook-up happened kind of fast but with Chik-lit books that is usually the case and my beef with them. Oh and yeah I definitely consider this a Chik-lit book.

Huh, funny how the author added in a restaurant called "Bimbos" where the waitresses are large breasted and wear tight, yellow, tops. Sounds familiar (Hooters) and interesting choice calling this restaurant "Bimbos" tell us how you really feel huh?

A tad bit perfect; mom went from being Joan Crawford and "no more wire hangers" to June Cleaver and freshly baked muffins.

Lance felt like a cardboard cut out character; didn't really know him. The only thing the reader knows about him is he is sexy and super nice. I just didn't connect with him at all.

This was a super fast read and cotton candy, no real substance. Not to be mean or anything (I love this saying because you just know something bitchy is going to follow it) but this story read as if it could have been a highschooler who wrote it. I'm usually not one for overblown sex scenes (unless they involve Camaros, yeah still not over that one. Tara Janzen- Crazy Hot) but man the author only describes them kissing and then has Sarah wake up one morning and say "Oh we did it". This was a teen fiction story being sold as an adult romance book. I didn't quite give it a failing grade because it did have a lot of funny moments and any book that at least makes you smile or laugh should be given a passing grade.

There are certain books it is difficult for me to approach with an open mind. I tried with this one, I really did. I wanted to like something about In the Groove, but the only thing that brought me joy was when I finally finished it. I found myself unable to walk away from this wreck of a NASCAR romance because I kept hoping it would improve. Well sports fans, it did not. However, I did learn a few things:

1. There is a NASCAR Library Collection segment of Harlequin Romance and this collection has at least two books. I am NOT the demographic for this collection, but I think it is neat that it exists.

2. Whiny, self-disparaging protagonists that do not develop as characters are TERRIBLE! Please main character, tell me more about how you are fat, not pretty, and don’t wear designer clothes. Argh! There is only so much self-loathing a reader should be required to endure before the eureka moment when the character develops into one that is more likable or at least does something about the perceived flaws. Spoiler alert – it never happens! The protagonist is insecure and compares her physical appearance negatively to every other woman she encounters. I found her negative head space to be a real drag to read for over 300 pages.

3. I love my sister but I do not like her choice in books. I have found myself stranded in the middle of the desert with only her bookshelf to choose from and the reading that has resulted has been far from my usual material. On the bright side, I have expanded my reading repertoire and have experienced firsthand the NASCAR Library Collection.

In The Groove by Pamela Britton
NASCAR #2
Sarah Tingle is most comfortable with kids, she loved being a kindergarten teacher until her ex went out for revenge, causing her to lose everything. Off to North Carolina she heads hoping to teach, instead she finds herself getting a job to drive a race car drivers bus. Sarah don’t have a clue about the racing industry and wouldn’t even know her famous new boss if he hit her with his car.

Lance Cooper was intrigued with his new employee. She could car less about his fame and fortune, she didn’t even know who he was and somehow that didn’t bother him. When she bakes him cookies and gives him a pep talk like he’s one of her students, it changes his losing streak. You don’t let go of things that bring you good luck, but how can he hang on to her?

The readers met Lance Cooper in the first book, Dangerous Curves. Blain Sanders young new driver who was flirtatious and full of wise cracks. I really enjoyed the way the author brought the previous characters back into the book, showing how their lives have moved ahead as well. Looking forward to the next five books in this series.

Sarah Tingle is a kindergarten teacher who just lost her job due to a slight "indiscretion" from years ago. She has taken on a job as a motor coach driver for race-car drive Lance Cooper to earn some money and time to find a new teaching position. She knows nothing about racing and just needs the job.
Lance Cooper is in a bit of a slump and needs to focus on his driving. Sarah is a distraction he doesn't think he needs.

This is a really sweet romance. Very clean--only a few curse words in the whole book and NO sex (just implied). Totally acceptable for a "younger" reader. Lance and Sarah are both cute characters and easily likable.

This was a quick read that I really enjoyed. It was my first Pamela Britton book and I am going to keep reading more. This is actually the second in the NASCAR series (after Dangerous Curves), but I did not read the first. There wasn't a need to read the first, but there were a few references that I might have understood if I had read Dangerous Curves.

This is the second book in the NASCAR series written by Pamela Britton. This book features Sarah Tingle and Lance Coooer. Sarah loved being a kindergarten teacher but her old boyfriend ruined her job for her. She decides to pack up everything and move to North Carolina where the only job she can get is driving a motor coach for NASCAR driver, Lance Cooper. We met Lance briefly in the first book of the series, Dangerous Curves.

Sarah knows nothing about racing or race car drivers. Her car breaks down, she decides to walk to Lance's house, and they meet when he accidentally hits her with his car. Great way to make a woman fall for a guy, especially in a car racing romance. I really liked the character of Sarah and Lance has all the traits of a sexy hero. Sarah was very sweet, even baking animal shaped cookies for the team to help overcome their racing nerves.

The author does a great job of describing the NASCAR world and has teamed up with Harlequin and NASCAR to feature the sport in romance novels. The romance is sweet with minimal sexual content. There's plenty of humor and it was a fun way to spend the afternoon. Count me in for more of this series.

Though it's trite to say, this was a cute book. I tend to usually enjoy sports romances, and I mostly liked this one. I'd read Britton's last NASCAR romance and liked it, so that's why I gave this one a try.

In The Groove is pure romance. There's pretty much no suspense with it.

Overall, the book was an easy read. I wasn't bored or annoyed with parts. I think you have to be a NASCAR fan to enjoy the book. It definitely helps with understanding the different dynamics. Like I said, there's a nice cuteness factor to the book. Sort of a true-blue romance. The characters are interesting and likable. They seem to work well together.

Britton does, though, skip out entirely on the physical aspects of the romance, ie sex. Lance and Sarah share some kisses, but the rest is implied. We don't even get any groping. That's a bit disappointing, and unusual. It does take a little bit away from the romance, but whatever.

Anyway, decent book, but I'd recommend her other NASCAR romance, Dangerous Curves, over this one.

Agggh! I finished the previous book and immediately found this one, so excited when I realized it was Lance's story. And then he's paired up with this... door mat of a woman. No back bone. No chutzpa. No nerve. No confidence. She constantly found fault in herself. Allowed others to use and hurt her without batting an eye. "Oh no, pretty girls are saying I'm ugly, I can't handle this!" Fucking GROW UP.

That bitch refused to bake Lance cookies even though she knew he couldn't win the race without them. I DID NOT LIKE HER.

Obviously, I liked Lance. I thought he should have pushed her harder when she refused to give their relationship a chance. Otherwise, he was great. But this story focused on Sarah and how little self-confidence she had, how cowardly she was, and how ridiculous little she knew about racing.

Spending less time rehashing Sarah's insecurities and more time focusing on Lance turning his season around would have benefited this book immensely. Sarah was why he turned his season around. That needed to be made clear.

This book started out pretty good, but in the end it was full of missed moments of intimacy and incomplete romantic tension. And I'm not just talking about the door-in-the-face sex scene, because the biggest problem with that was that the door slammed hours in advance of the scene, leaving me to wonder what even got them to that level of intimacy in the first place. (Let alone how a reportedly insecure woman handled the moment itself.) I put the book down shortly afterward because I felt disconnected from both characters, and her insecurities started to grate on my nerves. I wanted to have fun with the whole normal-girl-meets-famous-guy thing but it started to remind me too much of a movie. (As strange as it might be to say it, since I read a lot of romance, I don't like romantic movies in the least.)

In the Groove is a story about a race car driver named Lance Cooper and a former kindergarden teacher named Sarah Tinsley. Sarah is down on her luck because an ex-boyfriend of hers sold some private pictures of Sarah to a magazine causing her to lose her job and drive a bus for Lance. Lance is also down on his luck because he hasn't won a race in two years. All the critics are thinking it might be time for him to retire. But all he needs his Sarah to teach him about love.
The character's in this story are written to be real people, both Sarah and Lance have a great sense of humor and crack some funny jokes throughout the book. Although Sarah could be written to be a little more sure of herself. In the Groove is a classic romance novel meaning in the end Lance gets the girl. Plus he ends up winning in the end, what a great ending.

Of all the NASCAR series, I wanted to read this one the most. However, I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed.

It was a wonderful read...until I got to two-third of the story.

At the very beginning, the interactions between Lance, our hero, and Sarah, the herione, were super cute and entertaining...but like I mentioned before...until I get the the last one-third of the book. I love Lance...but I liked Sarah. Used to anyway. She was adorable at first, but when her super insecure side took over, she became one of the most annoying heroine I've ever met(read) in my entire life.

Well, I still enjoyed the book very much (especially the sexy, and hot race-car driver named Lance, he's one of the nicest hero)

huge improvement over Dangerous Curves, but I still didnt feel a connection. I really thought I would because the beginning was fantastically witty and entertaining and Sarah and Lance had and instant connection that was fun to read, but yet I still got bored. Sarah became a pain in my ass with her low self esteem and Lance became an idiot with his doormat tendencies AND after about half way thru it lost it's fun because of it. I also felt like I was reading something meant to be read by a teen. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not for me ..... I wont stop myself from reading another Pamela Britton book in this series, I'm just not running out to by the book LOL

I love Pamela Brittons Nascar books! They are always so funny and very entertaining. It's too funny that the character of Lance is always almost running people down in Pamela's books. The characters always end up getting themselves into hilarious situations. Another fave read :)
-update I just finished reading this book for the 2nd time April 12, 2011. The best part about Pamela's books it that you can go back and read them over again without it getting old. I also took this book with me to my first Nascar race. I jut love all the Nascar featured books. I hope she puts out more.

I belong to a group of knitters who are also NASCAR fans and participated in a yarn swap based on our love of both. My swap partner sent this book to me because I'd mentioned I'd never read any of this series. What fun! For those who aren't fans of the sport, there's plenty to keep you interested and for those of us who are fans, well I certainly saw the personalities I'm used to seeing on race day in this book.

Nothing heavy, just a good fun romp of a read.

Sarah Tingle, a down-on-her-luck kindergarten teacher, takes a job driving the motor home of NASCAR race driver Lance Cooper. When Lance loses confidence on the track, Sarah bakes his team animal-shaped sugar cookies that she used to give to her students to conquer test anxiety. Lance wins the race, and Sarah wins his heart.

A cute, contemporary romance that makes a perfect beach read.

I was a little leery of this book. Wasn't sure that you could get Nascar and a romance novel to click, but Britton did. Very believable characters with enough car lingo thrown in there to keep all the fans interested. Enjoyed how they introduced the reader to all the other drivers and some of the owners. Very good book for the new reader to start with for the series.

I was actually suprised that I enjoyed this book. I don't usually like "clean" romance, and that's what this was. Only kissing (all the sexual stuff happened off the pages). I'm not even a NASCAR fan. I read the first few pages because I was curious about what the main character's ex did to get her fired from her teaching job and ended up finishing the book the same day.

This was the first novel I've read by Pamela Britton. I picked it up because I enjoy romances centered around sports themes, and I do love the sport of NASCAR. Sarah could have been a little spunkier, wanted to V-8 thwunk her in the head a few times, luckily she finally did that to herself and came around. Will give a few more from this series a try.
